Can Marijuana Help Rescue California's Economy?

L.A. council committee to consider medical marijuana dispensary loophole
A Los Angeles City Council committee today will consider eliminating a loophole that would allow nearly 500 medical marijuana dispensaries to operate despite a temporary ban that went into effect in the fall of 2007

Well let's see, since he downloaded it, I don't think SCM can smoke it. It's an HBO series I think.

I'm 100% for the legalization of marijuana. It makes me SO ANGRY when people like Phillip Garrido are released because our prisons are as overcrowded as they are. The idea that pot smokers are in prison while sex offenders get paroled is obscenely out of balance and IMO can't be logically justified.

Not only can Marijuana help rescue California's economy it will catapult it over the top and back into the black.

California's economy will go NUTS if pot is legalized.

For what it is worth.

WELL I did read it and in part it is funny.
Here is a snip:
“I think we would be a lot better off if marijuana was the drug of choice rather than alcohol,” he said. “There would be a lot less violence, a lot fewer traffic fatalities and people would’t be ruining their lives… . Marijuana is a wonderful drug.”

LOL...Don't believe it... OK so he is right a lot less violence.
but fewer traffic accidents? - NO... more stoned people driving into things. hmmmm Maybe too out of it?
LOL...People would not be ruining their lives? NO... more stoned folk forgetting to handle stuff and letting time ride by.

Marijuana does have its short comings and it is not a fix our country drug...it will put too many to sleep....it is dangerous in the wrong hands. But is should be made legal, and LE should be removed from that industry LE should focus on destructive drugs, Missing kids and real crimes. NOT pot
And if it is regulated to protect children it is just another vice that should be monitored.
So that kids do not find it accessible.
It can be a very good income for the US.

your post cracked me up...my first thought re: traffic accidents is that there may be more due to the fact of people going too slow...lol. people would start getting like under the speed limit tickets..lol. officer: "yes, i understand you're high and are trying to be careful, but you still can't go 25 on the freway"....

i'm am ALL FOR the legalization of marijuana in California, but i don't think it will happen. people always view us as the epitome of liberalism, but many don't realize that we have A LOT of very conservative peeps in middle CA. I used to have to drive from Sacramento to Coalinga for work and I felt like I was in a different world.

If this has already been brought up my apologies.

If you were faced with choosing riding with a driver who was drunk or a driver who was stoned which one would you choose.

I know I know. You wouldn't ride with them, you would take the bus, and so on but let's say you only had those 2 choices.

If you chose the drunk driver then your odds of getting hurt or dying went sky high.

If you chose the stoned driver then more than likely you would get home OK, just about 28 hours late. ;)

The point to me is if one is legal then the lesser dangerous one should be too.

Also, like you all have pointed out, it is a waste of money and jail space to try and get all the pot smokers and dealers off the streets.

The crime rate, especially in the boarder towns would drop like a lead balloon.

Regulate it, license sellers, make it affordable, and you will see a positive impact on society. It's hard to believe but it's true.

It's common sense.

Tricia

PS. Even though it appears I am really air headed at times I do not smoke pot. I am that way normally :)

I don't smoke pot and never have, but I would love to see CA legalize it just to see how it goes. It's no secret that there are substantial crops of MJ in Cali and it would be very interesting to see what would happen if they legalized it. If it's successful, all other states could follow. I do believe, if handled properly, it will be a HUGE windfall for everyone!

Hey Niner; Yes, Yes, soon, hopeful; bless you

As time permits, I'll begin gathering CA stats, and running the numbers to help build a case for legalization. It'll take a known relationship, and trust, with John Q. Public, to get it through; as soon as that happens

we need to rid our United States of 40 million illegals first, so the citizens are interested in taking charge; I'll bet that CA has 8, if not, 10, million illegals; they are literally killing Americans, wreaking havoc on our financial system. first things first

I am all for legalization, not only in California, but also throughout the United States. Why not? Unfortunately though, there is not enough research done on marijuana. If not legalization, they need to decriminalize it. Like some of you said, how is it fair that pedophiles are being released from prison, while others busted for pot, are spending years in jail. It don’t make a bit of sense to me.

And in regards to what someone said above. Just because you smoke pot, doesn’t mean you won’t get anything done. It just depends on the person. I am a nursing student + get straight A’s + and get what I need done, done. If you are a driven person, whether you smoke pot or not will not effect what you do. LOL…. But sometimes it may take a WEE bit longer.

With all due respect gman, do you feel lke alcohol is used mostly in moderation? No. What about perscription drugs? No. And both of those are worse for you than MJ.

LL&S :woohoo:
RIGHT ON!

:floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: You crack me up too...
:drink: :40__s: :martini:
Drinking is just fine  Pills are fine too.

There are states where if you can have a prescription by a doctor for pot, you are safe from legal BS ;)
I wonder how they plead when the officer pulls them over for going 25 in a 55 MPH zone. lol

I think the Gov makes money on allowing them to come in from Mexico with truck loads. JMO
I think that is why it is illegal. (JMO - not mine alone - lol)

Pedophiles do not inch in on the Government Money grubbing.
Those who bring in drugs - get in the way of government.
It is widely believed that Gov. allow a certain amount of it in, through the Mexican boarders, and they get paid for it.
there for they do not want anyone to bring it in when they don't get paid for it.

LEGALIZATION WOULD HINDER THAT GOV. CUT.

MOO
