FUREY: Meet the spin doctor behind the Hussain family statement

The man who has presented himself as the point of contact for the family of Faisal Hussain is a professional activist who has reportedly committed himself to “framing a new narrative of Muslims in Canada” and creating a “national political movement.”

Shortly after the Ontario Special Investigations Unit revealed the identity of the Danforth shooter as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, a news release was sent out to select media attributed to the “Hussain Family”.

More at the link. Disgusting.

Wow! How horrible!
Has MSM printed a retraction or clarification of this obviously dubious press release by this 🤬🤬🤬?

Spin doctor? No. More like upstanding citizen and activist.

‘I want to have a say’: Muslim youth fellowship at Toronto City Hall aims to break down barriers
In a rare democratic exercise, 13 Muslim youth will soon get to talk directly with a political operative that used to work for Stephen Harper — the former PM who once spurred heated debate over whether Muslims should be banned from wearing the niqab at citizenship ceremonies during the 2015 federal election.

For the young citizens headed to Toronto City Hall next month to work as part-time interns under a brand-new fellowship, it’s a unique chance to discuss a policy many in the community called out as marginalizing at the time, with someone who was at one point close to its architects.
..
The eight-month fellowship is the brainchild of Mohammed Hashim and Nora Hindy, board members of the United Alliance on Race Relations. UARR and DawaNet — a Mississauga-based Muslim organization — forked out $22,200 for the program, a combination of community contributions and funding from the Atkinson Foundation. (The Atkinson Foundation is the charitable branch of the Star.) The city is providing $10,000 in one-time funding.

The idea sparked back in 2015, around election time, when Hashim’s organization consulted the Muslim community on how they saw themselves fitting in Canadian democracy.

“There was a sense of disconnect,” he said. “People felt that they were Canadian, people knew that they were Canadian, but because of the way the government was speaking of them, they felt that they might not be included in the democratic process.”

Mohammed Hashim
Mohammed Hashim is a labour organizer working for the Toronto and York Region Labour Council and a driving force behind organizations like the National Council of Canadian Muslims, DawaNet, and the Erin Mills Youth Centre. His groundbreaking work in political advocacy, public relations and the media has been widely credited by insiders as framing a new narrative for Muslims in Canada.
Although not publicly recognizable, many Canadian Muslims have likely heard his words. Whether it is regarding a mother of a 6-year-old on the No-Fly list, Muslim women being attacked during the election, or even Islamic schools wrongfully accused – his talking points and media advocacy are changing how Muslims are seen in the Canadian identity.

During the election, he voiced young Muslims’ issues by leading a team that held a national debate. After the conclusion of the election he initiated “Stronger Together” for NCCM, a national political advocacy network for the Muslim community.

I recommend reading more than one twisted article about him before jumping to this conclusion. He's well-known and respected, and he's doing the right thing by the family.

It should be a simple matter for TPS to confirm whether or not immediate family members wrote the statement so they can retract it if it’s not true. At this point in time we don’t know.

From the link up above:

“.....However, Hashim later responded to a separate request for comment from the Sun.

“I am just a friend of the family and have shared their statement as requested. I am not their spokesperson,” Hashim said via email....”

“I’m sorry they are not doing any interviews for now.”

And this link was posted earlier which appears to support the family statement...unless none of it is true of course.

“....The suspected gunman in the Danforth mass shooting Sunday night in Toronto was known to police for having a history of mental health concerns dating back to 2010.

A police source told Global News that 29-year-old Faisal Hussain had previously been apprehended by Toronto police twice under the mental health act....”

I was just thinking maybe it’s The Sun playing the role of Spin Doctor. They first print the emailed statement without question but then later use it to create scandalous sensationalism.

How unlike The Sun to do something like that. ;)

Hmmmm, wonder why

Mr. Singh, who lives in the neighbourhood, was face to face with the shooter, who told him: “Don’t worry, I’m not going to shoot you."

On Tuesday, his wife confirmed the details of the encounter to The Globe and Mail outside their home, but said her husband was not ready to speak with the media. She said the province’s Special Investigations Unit had been by the house that morning to interview him.

I lol'd at this part

It’s unknown how Mr. Hussain selected his victims or what motivated the attack.

I wonder what's so funny about innocent people getting shot up while they're out enjoying a meal. Huh.

Well, we knew it wasn't from his family, didn't we?

When the letter was first released, i assumed it was done by either a PR firm or a lawyer.
It was needed to soothe and give somewhat of an explanation to the public and perhaps provide a temporary shield of sorts for the shooter's family and community.
No big deal, imo, speculation.

Even if this tragedy is proven to have been a racially motivated hate crime that will not be an overly alarming finding nor is it a one-sided issue.

Hate crimes against Muslims in Canada increase 253% over four years

I don’t think we know that for sure.

I certainly don't think he's doing the right thing, for anyone.

Faisal Hussain went around killing and maiming innocent people.

The public is entitled to know about Faisal Hussain, what his beliefs were and how he got a gun.

Julianna, a beautiful little girl and Reese, a beautiful young woman taken in an instant. It’s just not fair.

If this fellow doesn't like that, sends out a presser that basically says, NO MORE QUESTIONS, he had his own demons just DOES NOT CUT IT.

Gosh, that’s not at all what I understood when I read the statement (allegedly) written by the family. IMO they’re absolutely devastated, well beyond imagination if any one of us were suddenly placed in the same horrible situation. I thought it was quite noble of them to acknowledge their shared grief with the victims, rather than defend their son. Neither TPS nor SIU have released any further details but I don’t read anything into the statement indicating their intent is to shut down the investigation whatsoever.

Full Statement is here:
