CANADA - 3 dead including gunman, 12 injured in Greektown shooting, Toronto, July 2018

Reuters is reporting that ISIS has claimed responsibility for a fatal shooting on Danforth Avenue on Sunday, citing a report from the group’s AMAQ news agency. The information is unsubstantiated and has not been confirmed by Canadian officials.

Strolling calmly down a crowded street loaded with cell phones seemingly unconcerned about capture is truly bizarre.
Strolling to other side of a street after killing people is also strange. He did after quite a long period on the same side of the street.

It is just strange, I am killing and random people (maybe or restaurants that he had some connection to) and in the middle of doing so I (apparently ) think oh i will go OVER there (its nighttime) and attempt to kill that person over there in blue shirt.

On the other hand a very credible explanation for such peculiar behavior , could be delusional or psychotic thinking.

MOre likely responding to command hallucinations - which also would fit in more with the his lapses (passing lots of people in between shootings ) in that his behavior was being "directed" by his troubled mind.

From link.

To date, no member of the Hussain family has spoken publicly or made any direct contact with media. Reports describe a family facing extensive challenges, as Hussain’s father is reportedly in and out of hospital with health issues, Hussain’s brother is in a coma and his sister died in a car crash several years ago.

.....

It seems that the “family” is the mother, w/ sister deceased, brother in coma & father in and out of hospital it’s the mother’s statement, which I don’t believe.

It’s true that no member of the Hussain family has spoken publicly and I don’t think anyone expects they would. It’s also true they had no direct contact with the media because Hashim claims via email to The Sun “I am just a friend of the family and have shared their statement as requested. I am not their spokesperson.” That method of communication is indirect contact. Quite typical, another party - maybe a minister, an extended relative, a close friend, somebody passes along the family’s devastation sorrow and grief to the media.

Specifically, what’s contained within the statement that appears concocted, fabricated or is impossible to believe?

Aside from the immediate family, “family” often includes uncles, aunts, cousins as well.

If the family hadn’t issued a statement, I guarantee they’d be harshly criticized and under the scope of SM for not doing so.

As for the father, an illness “like Parkinson’s” - Parkinson’s disease involves involuntary tremors or shakes and eventual immobility. But there’s nothing to indicate he’s incapable of emotional reaction to a horrific happening involving his son.

“.....Around the Thorncliffe Park apartment Hussain shared with his parents, he would smile in recognition, but rarely spoke to neighbours and did not seem to have friends or romantic interests, the neighbour said. He was not at all religious, declining to participate even in Friday prayers.

The neighbour said the Hussain parents are “really good human beings” saddled with a wave of trouble and grief. Hussain’s father, who suffers from an illness like Parkinson’s, has been in particular decline since their daughter died around five years ago in an accident on the Don Valley Parkway.....”
Who was Faisal Hussain? Toronto gunman was quiet and ‘not normal,’ neighbour says

This is absurd--and IMO is disrespectful to victims. They DO NOT take credit for every attack--we have been thru this many times on this site.

Strange article. Very different from one posted yesterday where they said shooter always had a big smile on his face and that his brother was in a coma due to taking drugs. Now that brother had a serious desire to be a police officer?

ISIS prays on those with mental illness and those that are vulnerable. It is not a hard leap to think he was following them.

Mental illness or not, planning an attack and killing 2 children and injuring countless others still makes you an evil monster. Mental illness isn't making someone plan this.

CTV is reporting that the brother, now in a coma, had a lot of ammo etc in the apartment. He had been criminally charged last year.

"Hussain’s twin brother, who had serious plans to be a police officer, has been in a coma for more than a year."
Who was Faisal Hussain? Toronto gunman was quiet and ‘not normal,’ neighbour says

vs

"Last year brought another blow. Faisal’s older brother, Fahad Hussain, suffered a drug overdose last summer and as of January this year remained in a “vegetative” state at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, court records show.

Two years earlier, on July 24, 2015, Fahad was behind the wheel of a rented Hyundai Accent in Saskatoon when police boxed in the vehicle and arrested him and a 22-year-old female companion for allegedly selling crack cocaine. Police seized 26 pieces of individually wrapped cocaine in a Tylenol container weighing 4.72 grams. A summary of the arrest said officers also seized four cellphones that were “ringing off the hook” with people ordering drugs. He had no prior criminal record.

Prosecutors in Saskatchewan agreed to transfer the charges to Ontario, where Fahad, as a condition of his release, was ordered to reside at a Thorncliffe Park address with Faroq and Sutana Hussain.

Back in Toronto, in February 2017, police charged him with possessing ammunition — a shotgun shell — and failing to comply with bail conditions. He was released on Feb. 21 that year on $10,000 bail and ordered to live in Pickering with his surety, a 33-year-old named Maisum Ansari, court records show.

Last September — while Fahad was in a coma — fire crews responded to a carbon monoxide alarm at the Pickering home and alerted police to a suspicious substance in the basement. Durham Regional Police executed a search warrant, finding 33 guns and other prohibited devices, such as overcapacity magazines, and seized 53 kilograms of a substance identified as the deadly street drug carfentanil."

Saw that. And some MSM source said he had a serious desire to be a police officer. Hilarious.

Toronto shooter's gun was illegal, originally from U.S.: source

"CP24 safety specialist Cam Woolley says a police source has told him the semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting is illegal in Canada and was originally from the United States. American authorities are helping track the gun’s exact origin."
"CTV News has further learned that ammunition and large-capacity magazines were found by police officers searching the apartment Faisal Hussain shared with his parents. Police are also looking into the connection between Hussain’s brother, who is currently in a coma, and a 2017 seizure of more than 30 guns in Pickering, Ont."

How horrible. One of the victims was a child. I have an idea that may at least cut down on these types of mass murders. I was thinking that every school every year should teach all students anger management. It is a course that takes about 16 hours to complete. It could be taught in home room (do those still exist?) or during study hall two weeks out of the year, one hour a day. I don't know, maybe it is a stupid idea, but it seems like modern society has a problem with properly expressing anger.

Sorry, not trying to tip-toe in the gun, or where they come from tulips, just trying to understand what the heck happened.
At this point, it all is looking like a gang type thing as opposed to a religious thing.
Since the brother in a coma allegedly was involved in some dubious activities, wondering if his " crazed " twin the shooter, in his delusion thought he was acting "on his behalf"?
complete speculation, imo.fwiw

That's an interesting thought. Imagine if he idolized his brother and wanted to be like him? Or who knows what, if he was in psychosis, what he was being told about acting on on his brother's behalf? Or that now he WAS his brother?
JMO speculation.

Why ISIS claims responsibility for attacks it didn't commit
"There is a long history of terrorists trying to elbow themselves into the limelight and milk some horrible tragedy to claim some credit for themselves," said Hoffman, who serves as Georgetown University's director of security studies.

"For them, it's a quote-unquote 'freebie,' in the sense that they get attention, and people talk about whether it's them. For terrorist groups, being in the news is one of the validations that they have an impact," he said.

Christie Blatchford: Who is Faisal Hussain, the man behind the Toronto mass shooting? It's complicated
"If the truth is out there, and it may not be, it probably lies as it often does in the murky middle."
"The National Post has learned that Toronto Police files show little evidence of the typical history of a person with a florid mental illness such as “psychosis,” as his family said.

A senior police source, while cautioning that this doesn’t mean Hussain wasn’t mentally ill, said that often with such people, there are frequent encounters with police — calls from the family for help, suicide attempts or committals to hospital under the Mental Health Act.

With Hussain, the source said, “we have very little of that.”

The third party, who had distributed the family’s statement, didn’t reply to a Post email Tuesday, asking if he had any light to shed on the apparent contradiction between the statement and police files."
"Where then does that leave those who wish to point to a cause or explanation for Hussain’s actions, if only to confirm some belief or bias or fear of their own?

As the police source told the Post, “Is he Muslim? Yes. Does he probably know Muslim extremists? Yeah. Is he mentally ill? Yeah, probably. Does he have access to guns from the guys in his neighbourhood? Yeah. But be real careful what road you go down. We may never know what was going on in his mind.”

In other words, Faisal Hussain was complex, not just one thing, not a one-dimensional, cardboard cutout."

WARMINGTON: Danforth shooter was “armed for war,” cops say

Said another: “I heard the reports of him being mentally ill, and I don’t discount that as a possibility. But I will say in my years of dealing with emotionally disturbed people I have never seen anybody operate any kind of weapon as well as he did.”

Also interesting to police is not just the kind of firepower he had, but how he used it.

“He used tactical stances and was able to do on-the-move reloads,” said one officer.

“That’s what we are trained to do if we are ever in trouble. It’s not easy. But he was able to do it.”

Since he did not have " women " to make him dinner and he would make himself a sandwich, did it irk him to see families/women/girls enjoying food in the restaurants?

WARMINGTON: Danforth shooter was “armed for war,” cops say
“He was armed for war,” said a source. “The cost of having that weaponry would be extensive. That kind of stuff does not come cheap.”

"Police sources also say they found a firearm in his Thorncliffe Park Blvd. apartment, and “lots of lots of ammunition.”

"Police say there were other reports of him “pacing up and down the street for up to half an hour” before the shooting.

A police source said he was also seen outside a cafe minutes before the shooting “chain smoking cigarette after cigarette” while glaring in at people seated having dinner.

This could be important information as they put together a psychological profile."
