That is a tough disorder. Is this what DG has?

I don't know if the accused is a sociopath, but I suspect that he is. I don't think he has any thoughts about how other feel. All that matters to him is how he feels, and whether his rights, wishes, and feelings are respected. I think he perceived that Alvin and Kathryn wronged him, but that was most likely dysfunctional thinking.

Mallard Point is the beginning of an inside passage around a long/flat island on the Bow River. Though a slower stream, it has a number of deeper holes and frequented by fly fishermen. It's not hard to get tangled in flood brush. As for jumping into the Bow for suicide reasons, I can't think of where the impact would kill you? One would drown by undertow or hit a shallow area but the river is swift enough to make hitting bottom difficult in those parts. It is the long weekend and this is sadly the norm. Strangely though, Mallard Point is 1.5 km downstream from a spot off Bow Bottom Trail that one can park at without suspicion even at night (some of the fly-fishing guys target night Brown Trout, even during a new moon).

There are lots of people like this running around out there, commonly known as 'self-absorbed'...lol
Reading the definition you had posted previously regarding 'sociopathy'....your comments in this post, as part of a whole package certainly could lend to predisposing a person to commit serious crimes. Right now, DG has not been deemed a sociopath, however, if convicted of these murders, he very well may be later.
That would be a horrible collection of behavioural traits don't you think? Imagine, the sociopaths of the world didn't ask to be like that, they came hardwired at birth (most likely) this way. It makes for a long, tough life. :(

I think it will be interesting to find out how many other vehicles were caught on the camera on the night of the murders. Maybe there were hardly any and have already been ruled out. The bodies had to be transported in a vehicle from the little information that we have. Perhaps that is another reason that LE think they have a good case.

Does anyone think it telling that no announcements have been made from LE about the deceased? The body was recovered at 3pm yesterday by medical examiner. Although if it is related the body could be difficult to examine with the amount of time that has passed. If it was a drowning I would assume an announcement would have been made. If it was a jumper as Tinkerbell suggested, I think an announcement would have been made as well. Just thinking outloud is all....

Hi :) Oh, I don't know if it's telling or not....suicides aren't reported in Edmonton. Typically if a body is pulled out of the river, I think LE just says "no foul play suspected"...unless it was an accident of some sort (boating, someone walking on the ice and falling through, etc.) in which case the report is that of the accident. I don't think that sociopathic people are wired that way at birth. I think that some people may have a pre-disposition to become like that, but I'm of the opinion that the environment plays a major role in personality development. I suspect that sociopathic personalities experienced some neglect in early childhood.

Not one to toss in every crime related to this crime but a machine gun and cellphone were found by a guy in his backyard in the neighbourhood of Temple/NE.

Oh....that could be :) I just based my 'hardwired at birth' comment on a session I attended at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton. Dr. Hibbard, the Head of Psychiatry made the statement, and I felt bad for those people. Here's a piece of an article that explains it a bit more:

Think you can spot one? Think again. In general, psychopaths aren't the product of broken homes or the casualties of a materialistic society. Rather they come from all walks of life and there is little evidence that their upbringing affects them. Elements of a psychopath's personality first become evident at a very early age, due to biological or genetic factors. Explains Michael Seto, a psychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental health in Toronto, by the time that a person hits their late teens, the disorder is almost certainly permanent. Although many clinicians use the terms psychopath and sociopath interchangeably, writes psychopath expert Robert Hare on his book 'Without Conscience', a sociopath's criminal behavior is shaped by social forces and is the result of a dysfunctional environment.

Now that's a whack news story! Man, what's this world coming to.

ETA - good thing a kid didn't come across that machine gun, crazy stuff.

Hmmm....interesting! When were these found? What relevance were you thinking they may have to this case? Always interested in hearing your theories :) :)

There are some interesting studies about personality development and certainly there are different theories about how people become sociopathic.

No kidding! My first question was..."where does a person get a machine gun from?" That's some pretty heavy artillery. I guess it's easier than I think! A fellow my friend worked with apparently ordered a machine gun online. Who knew?!! I have heard that a fairly common practise is to order the gun piece by piece, that way it's not considered a weapon, then they put it all together at home!

And yes, what Tinkerbel1 asked, please let us know your thoughts about connections to this case I'm very intrigued.

It seems that any story/crime out of Calgary is related to the DG case.

So considering the location, the guy just found it after not cutting the grass for two months or like other lazy Calgarian's he doesn't have sod (it's an odd trend in cowtown to just leave a lawn as dirt). If a machine gun was used, a suppressor may have been added to reduce noise.

On a serious note, believe it or not, but Parkhill is not exactly a quiet community when MacLeod is in full rush. People in that area seem to get desensitized to backfiring cars and Harleys and the constant whirr of traffic that common noises that startle most of us are brushed off as a Macleod thing.

Ah, a loop hole to buy a weapon, that's nuts but not surprising...So scary that almost *anything* seems to be available for sale on the internet these days and so much can fall into the wrong hands.

Apparently it was loaded and the guy who found it, unloaded it,, that's even more whack.

Do you really think DG would've used a machine gun…. Or are you being sarcastic? That would be horrific if it turns out he did.

Anyone watch True Crime Canada "Inside the Rafay Family Case"? It was aired tonight on CBC. I had no idea this show existed.

No, but thanks LL, I'll keep my eyes open to try to check it out next time I see it's on! Although, I keep saying I'm going to stop watching true crime shows lol! The shows are more interesting if it's Canadian, we don't hear about crimes in our own back yard as much as we do the big sensational US ones it seems.
