from Dee10 link:
Const. Ken MacDonald of New Glasgow Police Service said the Kirwan family has been informed of the findings, but this has been done only as a courtesy to the family.

He said it is routine for police to make such visits to families of missing persons. He said police will not be able to identify the remains of until the foresnic testing is complete.

Officers are continuing with their search of the property. The investigation is ongoing.

Two things...

I have not been following this as closely as all of you and two things stand out

A search warrant, would that mean private property?
Who would ask for a search warrant in a case like this, or is that standard?

This area AFAIK was searched before
Were the remains moved there after the initial search?

Search warrant: MSM does say it was on private property. However, I can only think of a few reasons why LE may need a search warrant: (1) the owners did not want them looking, or (2) maybe the owners gave permission but it was going to require digging or destruction of property in some way? Or entering a building? I'm just guessing here.

Searched before: as for the remains being moved, that's a very real possibility, especially if it had been a few weeks since they last searched. They could have just missed the body, or not searched as thoroughly until they had the forensics back saying that whatever they had found earlier was definitely related. Or they didn't want to take the chance that the owner would say 'no' so they got one as a precaution.

I have a feeling this is her. :(

And I also believe that in the absence of a tip or confession, it could have been cell phone pings that led them there. If so, then they're definitely closing in on a suspect.

Where the remains were found was across the road from where they searched before. I had heard that part about someone having connections to the area as well which I don't know is true or not. I had posted a link earlier about another case that happened in this area and the person who committed the crime was from Heathbell. It was the murder of a Taxi Driver in this area. 2 youths committed the murder with one still being in prison and one maybe not.. I am not finger pointing but it did cross my mind. Here is the link again if anyone is interested. http://www.ngnews.ca/News/Local/201...convicted-of-1998-murder-granted-day-parole/1 here are a couple more :http://www.ngnews.ca/Justice/2008-06-11/article-320062/Cabbie-killer-gets-six-trips-out-of-jail/1 http://www.ngnews.ca/News/Justice/2...icted-killer-gets-second-term-of-day-parole/1

Remains linked to Amber

....Someone with knowledge of the investigation, who did not wish to be named, said the police received a tip from the public leading them to the property.

"Obviously, there were sufficient grounds and belief to obtain a search warrant," said Const. Bill Rudolph of Pictou County District RCMP.......

....."The cops have been there on and off for two weeks — helicopter, the whole nine yards."

The remains were found during a police search in relation to the ongoing Amber Kirwan disappearance investigation. The site is midway between Scotsburn and Lyons Brook, and very close to Hardwood Hill

Based on the location in the article, here is a map visual of where the remains were found (somewhere inside the purple circle area).

Hey elepher50, if you follow the Hardwood Hill Road up that shows on your map you will come to Heathbell Road. It is really close to that intersection.

Elepher, I think there's some confusion in the media about where the remains were found b/c this is different from the article you quoted (bbm):

An RCMP spokesman would not say what led police to seek the search warrant for that property, which lies near the intersection of Heathbell Road and Hardwood Hill Road. ......

"There’s a few houses on either side going down the road. It’s mainly wooded," one neighbour, who didn’t wish to be named, said of the stretch of Heathbell Road where the remains were found.

Also from that article above, if any locals know where this may be (bbm):

Police used traffic cones and a patrol car early Saturday evening to block off a long lane leading uphill through the woods from Heathbell Road, and later to block off access to gravelled Heathbell Road. A unit from Pictou County Ground Search and Rescue was parked on the roadside, and the sky at the top of the hill glowed with electric light.

From that link... I hope there is an arrest soon. Very very sad... :(

bbm

Police have confirmed that remains found in Heathbell Saturday are those of 19-year-old Amber Kirwan who went missing Oct. 9 after leaving Doolys in New Glasgow.

Police are not confirming how she died, but say that it is being investigated as a homicide.

Her remains were uncovered in a wooded area on a Heathbell farm property.

R.I.P. Beautiful Amber. :rose: I am heartbroken for your family and friends who loved you. I am hoping that an arrest is imminent. I want to believe that they have evidence that lead them here and to a suspect.

"You never take anything off the table," he said. [Const. Bill Rudolph of Pictou County District RCMP]

Late Saturday night in New Glasgow, after news of the discovery, people trickled in twos and threes to Dooly’s, where Kirwan last said goodbye to her friends.

They lit hundreds of candles along a wall nearby, an impromptu shrine where candles have often been lit at night since the teen’s disappearance, and stood in silence.
