I am also not understanding a connection. Anyone know?

I DO remember this name coming up very early on as potential due to the previous murder committed by him. Does he or his sister have a connection to Amber though?

Sorry if I am being dense lol.

You're not being dense. I'm just as confused.

Makes me so proud to be a Canadian when murderers are let out on day parole. Heck why even bother with a trial? :banghead:

This other dude got house arrest. He had a rifle and knife.

Any updates on that other guy who shot in his front yard? Is he connected to this case?

Here's an update and looks like they'll be at the house through Thursday now, not Wednesday... I think she was held there. :(

IMHO they are looking for signs that she was killed there.

This is just awful. Was she just at the wrong place at the wrong time? Maybe she was grabbed- there was speculation about a shoe being found on the sidewalk.

This area is not a city and it seems like everybody knows somebody who knows somebody. . About the only place currently for young people to hang out is Dooleys. CF lived in NEw Glasgow and was from Heathbell where he grew up. His family is still in that area. If Rumours are correct here there will be some news tonight.

Police make arrest in Amber Kirwan case
Published on November 9, 2011

Thank God justice is being served! The RCMP, the NG Police, the whole community have done such a great job!

The arrest was made in the New Glasgow area! would the Heathbell area be considered New Glasgow as well?

Can't wait to find out who was arrested? Can't wait for all the details.

Anyone knows if there has been only one arrest? or more?

Rest in Peace beautiful Amber

Seriously? OMG, how could they make a mistake like that! I can only imagine how is the mood over there, people must be so tense.
So hard to be patient

There are conflicting reports that a man in New Glasgow has been taken into custody by RCMP this afternoon. The Chronicle-Herald is reporting that neighbors saw Chris Falconer apprehended on Brothers Street in New Glasgow, and The New Glasgow News reports that an arrest related to the Amber Kirwan investigation has been made. News 95.7 quotes RCMP media relations as saying "no individual has been arrested or is in custody in relation to the Amber Kirwan homicide".

However, residents in the area say Chris Falconer was arrested on a parole violation, presumably after a previous conviction in 1998.

I am suspicious of this parole violation
They have set up a command post outside of his sisters house

Maybe they feel he is a flight risk and don't have enough to charge just yet

The News is now retracting their previous article:

Early reports of arrests in Kirwan case not correct, state RCMP
NEW GLASGOW – RCMP indicate no arrest has been made in relation to the Amber Kirwan homicide despite rumours circulating that one person was picked up.

Earlier in the afternoon, New Glasgow Police did make an arrest and are currently searching the Vale Road area with the canine unit.

Rumours suggesting that the arrest was in connection with the murder were not correct.

Correct me if I'm reading it wrong, are they now saying that there WAS an arrest, but that it was not related to Amber's case?

What would a canine unit be looking for i wonder??
Also, I suppose the arrest could be related to another recent crime in the area

Arrest could be a parole violation and canines would be looking for a murder weapon after learning the scent of the person on the weapon

CTV Atlantic - Date: Wednesday Nov. 9, 2011 3:22 PM ET

<<<<snips>>>

Police have confirmed to CTV News that Christopher Falconer has been arrested on Brother Street in New Glasgow.

Witnesses say Falconer was walking down the street when he was approached by police and patted down Wednesday afternoon. They say he was then taken away in a police vehicle.

At this time we do not know why he was picked up, however RCMP say there have been no arrests made in the Amber Kirwan case.

RCMP are still on the scene at a mobile home in Heathbell today, in connection to the Amber Kirwan murder investigation.

Police haven't confirmed who owns the home, but there are reports the woman living in the home is Alice Meier, the stepsister of Falconer.

Just weighing in on the theory that perhaps she was kept alive for a while... I remember when her body was found the police saying they could identify her by sight.. does this mean she hadn't been there long? She was missing almost a month so you'd think if her body had been there that whole time it would have decayed severely and not been able to be identified just by looking at it? I remember thinking this when they first found her

Hmmm it sure is a horrible thought that they kept her!!! :( Poor Amber, may she rest in peace now!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/11/09/ns-arrest-heathbell-nova-scotia.html

New Glasgow Police have arrested a man in Heathbell, near New Glasgow.

Chris Falconer, 29, was convicted of the second-degree murder of a cab driver who was killed in Heathbell in 1998.

Falconer is now out of prison on parole.

Police stressed to CBC News that the arrest has nothing to do with the Amber Kirwan homicide investigation.

JMO: he may be involved but his arrest may be for something else until the police can find evidence to tie him to the crime.
