Police recover evidence after property search

Police say evidence was discovered during the search of a residence and property in connection with Amber Kirwan's murder.

RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Leger said Monday morning that the search of 976 Hardwood Hill Rd. in Heathbell, Pictou County, which started last Tuesday, wrapped up on Sunday evening.

Leger would not elaborate on the evidence discovered at the site, saying only that the investigation continues.

Police also continue to examine two cars seized in the last week, said Leger. A grey 2002 Chevrolet Impala was seized last Monday while police picked up a blue 2008 Hyundai Elantra late Thursday evening.

Leger said police have made no arrests in connection with Kirwan's murder.

Police also say there is no connection between Kirwan's death and the murder of Eddie Phalen. Phalen, 44, was shot outside his Trenton home on Oct. 25. Leger said police continue to investigate Phalen's death and they ask anyone with information to come forward.

I am new here, but have viewed a many of posts on this site, for this tragedy.

A few things bother me about the whole thing. There is a rcmp cruiser at the lights when the camera shot blacks out, the car had to travel the same way she did until the road big Al's is on. So, seems no one is safe out there.

Also, if they are so intent on this house and have now been there for just about a week, what was really done to amber(sad thoughts) there? They must have something specific they are working on there. Makes one wonder.

And this woman who lives there has a daughter or two. I mean, maybe she does have nothing to do with it, but if they are at her house this long, then IMO it is hard to believe she didn't play a part in this.

I am from the area and am 5-7 kms from both things here, this house and the remains site. I won't let my daughters go anywhere alone now. I was protective before, but this just made it more so.

From what I remember there was either an old shack on the property or old mobile home before the newer mobile home went in.The property is fairly large and also has a travel trailer on it. There maybe nothing in the newer home...they have just said the property.
I wonder if maybe there was a party in Heathbell the night before Amber disappeared. The first spot they searched was a known drinking spot. Say Amber, MC,her friends and others including CF were there partying. This would explain why there were Amber things at that site. It would also explain how CF knew Amber. WHat if someone took a liking to her. MC did not want to go out Saturday night as he said he was out the night before. What if the person who may have taken a liking to her stopped and offered a drive or offered to wait with her till MC got there..Just my brain doing overtime....

That's the CF's step sister's mobile home. I am not sure if CF was staying there with her....maybe in the trailer? Do we know where CF lived (Heathbell area or New Glasgow)?

Newbie to this case. Just read through the thread and I am sad to read that Amber Kirwan was found deceased.

Is the law in Canada different to that over here in the UK, given that her family has been able to bury her prior to anyone being charged with her murder?

Over here in homicide cases, most defendents are able to get their legal team to arrange a second post mortem prior to the victim being buried, if they feel it may be of some use to their case.

I was just a bit suprised that she has been buried so quickly.

IMO sounds like they have no question as to how she was murdered(sends chills through me), grrrr.....I sure hope they get whoever did this. So, looks to me, that they just don't have enough to pin it on anyone or more then one person yet. Which hopefully won't take a long time. This family needs closure, along with the community to know that the person or people that are responsible are unable to hurt anyone else. I didn't know Amber, but I do have teenagers that are not out on their own yet and it is definitely concerning.

FWIW this is MOO i believe they know exactley who done it and how many are invovled,LE is just making a concrete case and are taking there time to as not miss anything so it will stick.i live close by and have been hearing all the rumors about the bf MC and CF who was supposedly at dooley's that night also.i believe there is alot more in the video's fr dooleys and big al's store but we will see what comes out in a few days i believe......

continues to swell with candles from people paying their respects to Amber Kirwan,
a young woman who went missing and was later found murdered. The owners of the wall and...​

A candlelight vigil was held Oct. 12, days after the 19-year-old’s disappearance, and candles, flowers and prayers have filled the wall. Since Kirwan’s funeral, more candles have been placed and several stuffed animals and a small chest have been placed on the Spears’ lawn.

Having just lost his mother, Spears understands what the Kirwan family is going through.

“My heart aches for that family and what was done for that poor little girl,” said Spears.

But he is saddened by what has happened to his property as the memorial grew.

His mother’s planters were knocked off the back patio, beer bottles and Tim Hortons cups have been littered about the property.

Spears said he is trying to sell the property and had an interested party come to view the home, but when the potential buyers saw the wall they said no.

The wall across from Dooly's has become a makeshift memorial known as "Amber's Wall," lined with candles, stuffed toys and messages.

"I'm sure there's going to be a drive to keep the candles going," mourner Lisa Smith said. "I'd be surprised if there's not some type of memorial put here that's a permanent fixture."

But what the community wants more than anything is justice for her death.

NEW GLASGOW – Police say evidence was found in a 2002 gray Chevrolet Impala seized in relation to the Amber Kirwan homicide investigation.

Sgt. Brigdit Leger with the RCMP said Tuesday that the vehicle has been thoroughly searched and has been released.

She declined to comment on the nature of the items found.

A second vehicle, a 2008 blue Hyundai Elantra, is still in police custody and the search is ongoing.

Hi everyone!! I'm new to WS but have been browsing the site for a week. Sadly because of this beautiful girl who lost her life far to soon I have met you all. I have been following this since it began and like you I was praying for her safe return but as the days wore on hope turned to despair I am so heartbroken for Amber that there is no words. I to am from Nova Scotia and it truly hits hard. I as well have 2 daughters one 19 and one 14 and cannot picture my life without them. I pray for Ambers family. May her candle that burns in your hearts give you the strenghth to carry on.

There are sooooo many unanswered questions and I know LE can't disclose information. But it is truly hard to even try to understand what happened. I have my opinions as to what I think happened but its is just my thoughts.

RIP Amber Kirwan for you will never be forgotten.
