An interesting read below, if anyone is interestered. The link contains a transcript of the interview.

Mr. Currie took some direct questions from the 'audience.'

For example:

Quote: Guest: Can you talk a little about circumstantial evidence and what kind of evidence is needed for a conviction?[

and

Quote: Guest: As an observer with no legal background, in your opinion did the Crown prove 1st degree?

Below are a couple of cases that Justice Scaravelli handed down sentences for in the past--he seems to weigh in on the light side.

Maybe I'm putting the cart before the horse, though. We need a conviction first. :)

Quote: The Crown had sought a 30-day jail term for MacDonald but Scaravelli imposed a $1,000 fine and 12 months of probation. The Crown said it would have recommended a conditional sentence if that were still an option.

Quote: “You were a motorist’s worst nightmare,” Justice Nick Scaravelli told William Byron Fogarty Wednesday as he sentenced him to six years in prison for causing the deaths of two area teenagers.

Quote: On Thursday, Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Nick Scaravelli ordered the charge be stayed because the delay was excessive and infringed the accused's rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

I'll go with you on the Murder 1.

I'll say late Monday for the verdict.

I'm hoping the reporters will be allowed to tweet out some of the judge's instructions in the morning, too.

Good morning folks. So this morning we will hear the charge to the jury. Justice Scaravelli will give them rules to follow on how to view the evidence and come up with a verdict.

Sueann Musick:
When you go to jury room to begin discussions, It;s important no one starts off by saying they have made up mind and won't change it no matter what. This is not a way to decide a case. Discuss the evidence. Listen to what others have to say.
