GUILTY Canada - Amber Kirwan, 19, New Glasgow, NS, 9 Oct 2011 - #2

:rose: R.I.P. Beautiful Amber :rose:

He will never be able to hurt another again. I can't imagine the relief that Amber's family and friends must be feeling now. I worried that they would not have enough evidence to charge him. It goes to show me that I need to be more patient while waiting for justice. I admit that patience for this kind of news is not in my normal makeup and I must work on it! ;)

  • Chris Falconer led into court by RCMP. He made no comment. Small group of curious bystanders watched.

  • Falconer appeared calm as he entered the courthouse a bemused look on his face.

  • Falconer adjusts glasses and looks around room. Sticks hands in coat pocket. Tells judge he has spoken with a lawyer.

  • Falconer tells judge he is not sure if lawyer will represent him. Legal aid represents him for this arraignment.

  • Judge asks Falconer if May 28 is enough time. Falconer says no. Judge remands him until Monday June 18 in Burnside Jail.

  • Falconer leaves court without further comment.

I'm outraged that this monster was let out of prison to murder another innocent human being!

When will we see real justice for innocent victims? Bring back the death penalty! Enough of this BS! Obviously parole doesn't work!! These 🤬🤬🤬 scums get out and reoffend!

I'm fuming! :furious:

I was an avid reader of this case when she was kidnapped so am glad she will have some justice.

Scary isnt it though.....I mean how many of us have had a night out when we were teens early twenties and walked off by ourselves to catch a cab or go to where we are being picked up. This is the nightmare that we all think will not happen to us.

Why is there so many of these sick people out there these days????

This guy would have done it again for sure...so this time keep the sicko in there for good.

I agree. After waiting this long to make an arrest, why in the world would they immediately release her without charges? Could they have been just trying to get her cooperation? Could she be their *star* witness in the upcoming trial? A deal made very quickly? Sound implausible, but...

After thinking about it, that is exactly what I think she will be the "star" witness. Wasn't there some evidence on her property? I wonder if they arrested her first and she spilled the beans on whatever she knew? She probably wasn't involved but maybe had some information she didn't previously share is what I am speculating to have no charges after an arrest.

I am just wondering if they were possibly threatening her with obstruction of justice or aiding and abetting (or hiding a criminal). They did search her home, so if there was plenty of evidence in her home regarding the crime, I can't imagine that she didn't know that he did something wrong.

I am just SO happy that they finally charged this guy. I still wonder what happened here. Was this really just a crime of Amber being in the wrong place at the wrong time? He just happened to drive by while she was walking to the store? :sigh: Or was there something more sinister that happened. I hate how my mind wonders because I think of things like: how long he kept her alive, did he make her suffer... I just won't go any further.

The design for a memorial to the teenager whose disappearance and death last fall gripped the people of Pictou County will be unveiled on Thursday.

The wrought-iron structure dedicated to Amber Kirwan is the product of extensive efforts by a community group comprised on many of the same people who searched for the the 19-year-old when she was missing.

“(It’s) meant to remind our community of the beautiful and special person Amber was and how the search for her brought a caring and close community even closer,” Mariea Leil-Bowser, who heads the group, said in a news release.

PICTOU -- Christopher Falconer will plead not guilty to first degree murder in the death of Amber Kirwan, his lawyer said Friday.
"No doubt in my mind," said Mike Taylor of the plea which cannot be made until after a preliminary inquiry.
The 29-year-old Falconer appeared in provincial court in Pictou on Friday wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans.
He watched calmly as his attorney, the Crown and judge agreed to set aside 15 days for a preliminary inquiry to begin on Feb. 11 (2013).

Taylor, who has reviewed evidence disclosed by the Crown, called it "circumstantial."

The man accused murdering Amber Kirwan last year appeared in New Glasgow Provincial Court Friday.

Chris Falconer did not enter a plea to charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping, but his defence lawyer, Mike Taylor, told Global News he expects the 29-year-old will plead not guilty to both offences after a preliminary hearing next year.

The preliminary hearing is set to start Feb. 11, 2013. It's expected to run for a total of 15 days, wrapping up at the end of March.

Taylor says the case against Falconer is "highly circumstantial." He says he has several boxes of evidence to go through, but not a lot of it is DNA evidence.

"There is DNA evidence that's been collected in relation to exhibits that were found all over the place during the investigation," he explains. "Some of which doesn't have much real involvement, in my opinion."

He adds a lot of other evidence consists of "timelines and statements from various witnesses that try to put different people in different locations at different times."

Taylor says there is not a doubt Falconer will plead not guilty.

Family and friends of Falconer showed up to the court to support him, but did not want to speak to Global News.
