Two brand new Canadian Tire belts than belonged to Barry Sherman and that were given as a gift to him by Honey Sherman. KD's book page 263
Thanks so much. Since they were brand new, there has to be some significance there.
And many thanks to those who have read the book for this info. I have not read the book. I prefer non real life crime reading.

This comparison to the sculptures has to be significant. Apologies if this is already posted here. To me it suggests that the killer knew the Sherman’s personally. Or, it was a hired killer given personal info.

After being on Ws it will take a while to get used to the new company name - iykwim.. SK Capitol.

SK Capitol would hold ownership due to their investment in the company but that wouldn’t require the name of Apotex to change. It would simply become one of their holdings.

In the household of millionaires there are different processes than in normal households, it seems. I wouldn't name it "a gift", if I as the wife would bring two $10 belts home from shopping for my husband. :D

Lengthy article. rbbm

''He was “butterball” to one teacher at Forest Hill Collegiate. Another called him “sluggish.” But Bernard “Barry” Sherman’s brain was alive with schemes and ideas that would eventually take him to the heights of the Canadian business and philanthropy scene.

“I like to make money and give it away,” Sherman would say when people asked what got him out of bed in the morning. In his life, Sherman did both, becoming a billionaire and giving enormous gifts to Jewish and non-Jewish causes.

Wednesday, Apotex, the company he founded in 1974, was sold to a New York private equity firm for an undisclosed amount. The sale, which requires regulatory approval, starts a new chapter for the homegrown firm Sherman started in a small building on Ormont Drive in an industrial area in the northwest part of Toronto. SK Capital, the New York firm, says that it is delighted to “have the opportunity to support” a “proudly Canadian” firm that delivers “high quality, affordable medicines.” SK Capital has a large portfolio of companies, many of them suppliers of chemicals to pharmaceutical companies.''

''Sherman, at the time of his death, was expanding Apotex. He’d just bought a new plant in Florida. The email he sent the night he died showed how he was still invested in the most minute details of his fifth child. “API: appears we will need about 120 to 150 kilos to do all work. What source did we use previously and at what cost?” Sherman wrote shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 13, 2017. “API” refers to the active pharmaceutical ingredient, the actual drug compound in a formulation, in this case, a drug that treats congestive heart failure. Sherman would be dead within a couple of hours of sending the email to his plant in India.''
''Sherman frequently told Kay that he wanted to keep building Apotex. “I still have so much to do,” Sherman said not long before his death. “I can’t die.”

From the same article:

"Last year, the Star reported that Apotex paid almost $100 million (U.S.) to settle allegations that it conspired with competitors to hike the prices of popular drugs. As part of the deal with U.S. officials, Apotex agreed to co-operate with investigations of rivals, including recording telephone conversations, introducing law enforcement to sources, or testifying before a grand jury, documents filed in court say. Sources close to the Sherman family and Apotex say those allegations — now resolved — complicated the Sherman children’s plan to sell Apotex."

This would have made a lot of people in the pharmaceutical industry angry. I know we have discussed this before and here it is again in this article.

They were two cheap leather belts that Barry was fond of. He wore one of them to work on the day that he was killed. The other belt appeared to have been taken from his bedroom upstairs. Thus, the killer knew they were a matched set.

Is there significance to the cheap belts and the statues made of junk? Was there a message there from the killer?

''Unsettled since its founder Barry Sherman was discovered murdered along with his wife in 2017, Apotex has finally been sold.

Private investment firm SK Capital has bought the Toronto-based, family-owned company. Terms of the sale for Canada’s largest producer of generic drugs were not disclosed. In 2019, when the company hired a financial advisor to review its options, Apotex was said to be worth up to $3 billion.''

''Rumors of a potential sale heated up last November, shortly after the company was ordered to pay $49 million to resolve price-fixing allegations of cholesterol drug pravastin''

''Apotex has been in tumult since the death of Sherman, who founded the company in 1974. After Sherman and his wife, Honey, were found dead at their Toronto mansion in December 2017, the family took control of the company. The case remains unsolved.''

Maybe someone thought that they were being cheap to them even though BS and HS were very rich.

interesting. How would a killer know the belts were a matched set? Did Barry brag about his new belts? I mean you can buy single belts. Did he kill them and then take the belt Barry was wearing with him when he went to find the other one in the bedroom or did he just happen to grab the second one when he went to get another belt? I can't remember now if Barry was still wearing his work clothes or did he change into casual clothes, laying his belt beside the other in the bedroom?
Why and how is it that there are drag marks in the dust, but not the perp's footprints, and if he/they did wipe them away, why leave the drag marks? How did they maneuver the bodies in such an awkward space?

Why did HS's ''slip-ons'' not slip-off ? speculation, imo.

''A person walking in from the lone entry door would have seen Honey at the far end of the pool (40 feet away). Honey was in profile, the left side of her body the first part visible. She is fully dressed, wearing dark pants, a blouse and a blue vest. Her rear end is on the floor, her legs stretched out in front. Her shoes, simple black slip-ons (she had perpetually sore feet and liked a comfortable shoe), are almost touching the wall that faces the pool.''

''Barry is situated on the other side of Honey. He is attached to the angled railing a little bit farther back, which explains why, though he is taller than Honey, his feet are roughly one foot from the wall. He, too, is wearing his shoes. His right leg is crossed over the other at the ankle. He is wearing his glasses.''

''At some point during the attacks, both were restrained at the wrists while they were alive, as a forensic investigation would later show.''

''In the photos I have seen there are what appear to be faint drag marks on the tiled floors, possibly from the heels of one of the Shermans’ shoes, which end at the bodies. From the police documents, we know that the Sherman cleaning staff had not visited the room for three weeks, so the faint marks were likely made in dust on the floor.''

I had always thought they were tied up on some short stairs with Honey on a step below Barry.

Double murder according to the motto: I'll show you, how your stinginess will finally be your downfall! - Something like that???

ETA: Who was so affected by the stinginess? How much? Did the killer kill out of hatred (because he wasn't helped/wasn't helped in time)? Was the killer severely harmed (physically, mentally, materially), because Apotex illegitimately saved money (e.g. violation of labor protection laws) in order to optimize its profits?

It may have to do with BS's will.

In somewhat related news considering a great deal of information about the Sherman case is provided by KD at the TS..

''Star owners sets up battle for the soul of the newspaper

'I don’t think it’s an easy thing to say yet who’s wearing the black hat and who’s wearing the white hat,' says one Toronto Star veteran''

It makes the feud between these former friends — a clash of titans unveiled Thursday in a lawsuit, filed by Rivett, seeking to dissolve their partnership and sell Torstar, perhaps for parts — as more than a business spat.''

It sets it as a battle for the soul of the Star.''
