The property was transferred into the wife's name in November 2016, and demolished two weeks prior to the deaths.

We're not talking about custom fittings, we're talking about commercial building sky lights that spanned something like 27 feet and sliding doors of something like 27 feet that opened to an indoor pool. I'm sure it would have been somewhat nice, but at the same time probably gaudy, kitch, self-indulgent, ugly, pretension, and completely opposite of what they needed.

Murder suicide about a difference of opinion, and desire to preserve reputation.
And how do you know what they wanted or needed?

It was an ambitious venture for 70 and 75 years old, but something tells me they weren't the type to let their age dictate what they should or shouldn't do with their money and home. The plans didn't sound ugly or gaudy to me, it sounded like a beautiful, tranquil place to reside for the last years of their life, and then pass on to their family.

And your reasoning still begs my original question, why now? If a dispute ensued over the new build, these plans weren't a surprise to BS. The plans were approved well before they broke ground or demolished the home.

If this was a murder-suicide, I'm just not buying that it was over this housing venture.

I am now renting waiting for my new house to be finished. I sold my old home which did have a working elevator among many other amenities that the new house does not have. It is called downsizing. If BS was a penny pincher he would be fine with that. The money you spend to keep a big house like that going is like throwing money down the drain. Trust me I know. My husband is 72 and he was so over the "big house" upkeep.

Do Billionaires worry about the 'upkeep' of the big house? I don't think so. Even frugal ones.......its about appearances too when you are so well connected. A billion dollars is a thousand million and they had a few Billion. a hydro or gas bill doesn't bother them.

Agree with all of this.

It is not about the house as much as the lot. Very average lots in very average neighbourhoods can be well over a million, increasing quickly with better location.

I have been all the way through Canada south to north but we crossed the border at Shelby Montana going to Alaska so I have never been to Toronto. So this might seem like a stupid question. but with all those wide open spaces and sparse population why doesn't the developers just expand outward from the downtown area? Here the developers just build new additions further and further out from the downtown area so that the city keeps expanding outward. Granted the new housing additions sell out quick here but then they just start another one right beside it.

An 11 million dollar home here would be like 30000 square foot on about an acre of land. I am just guessing of course.

Who nominated him? Was it Trudeau or someone in the Liberal party who has a questionable relationship with financing from the Shermans? If so, the nomination should be withdrawn.

Regardless, unless Barry Sherman can be ruled out for the murder of his wife, his nomination should be withdrawn. Isn't that how it works ... someone is a suspect until such time as being ruled out? Surely with that fancy family investigative team they can demonstrate to the public why Barry Sherman should be ruled out for the murder of his wife.

Other than the liberal party, someone he works with, gives money to, or family, why would he be nominated to the order of Canada? What neutral party did this?
Actually, it's innocent until proven guilty. Not the other way around.

I can't tell you who nominated him, but it likely had much to do with his philanthropic work.

JMO Nothing is cheap in Canada. Building materials ,builders, basically everything is highly taxed.
50 thousand would be one year of property tax for the Shermans if the house was actually valued @ 6.9

In Canada you pay enough money for off-brand pharmaceuticals to make people billionaires many times over

I did notice things are more expensive there when I traveled through it. Gasoline, hotels, food ect. But it is a lovely country and in my opinion well worth the extra expense.

Astounds me that at their ages they would be wanting to build another 20000 sq foot house, even more so after what happened last time they built.
If one partner was opposed to the idea, that could cause ructions.

Perhaps Barry thought 10000 sq feet would be big enough, especially if he didn’t enjoy hosting 80 people for dinner regularly.
If it is murder/ suicide I think it was unplanned. Some straw broke the camels back.

What happened last time they built?

I'm still unsure of a lot of things here.
My thoughts and opinions thus far:

Despite friends' comments, no outsider really knows or understands the personal dynamics between BS and HS.
He does not seem like a 'loveable' husband to me. She tolerated him due to his income producing lifestyle.
I've witnessed numerous, affluent couples this age, who lived under the same roof but really lived separate lives.
Except for public appearances they did nothing together. Separate bedrooms, separate lives. I'd also like to hear more about the personal trainer coming to the house. Was he a romantic interest? Was BS jealous of him? Was HS
making plans for a new, more separate life?

I have a personal theory about money and business, learned from years in business- The more money you make, the more people are chasing you. More potential disagreements, more legal battles, just more people chasing you for $$$.

So, IMO, there are dozens of people who would like to have offed BS. He had crossed over into huge money deals
and huge potential outcomes. He said it himself, that he was surprised no one had snuffed out his lights. He knew
it was a potential result of his business practices. If true that he was ruthless in business, my guess is he was also
ruthless in his personal dealings with people. You don't normally switch that off and on.

Separate bedrooms make for a good nights sleep. I would always have my own bedroom, people snore, move about all night long etc
I prefer my sleep. My parents always had their own rooms, so did my grandparents. One commutes for intimacy. Doesn't mean theres no love in the marriage, aux contraire.

I agree.

The new house plans look like it would be a very bright and cheerful layout, especially with the huge skylights .

Yep, Canadians pay 20% more for these less potent drugs than the rest of the developed world. Disgraceful!!

Many generic prescriptions can be filled here for 4 dollars.

Even if I were as rich as them and my partner wanted to do that, it would be a major bone of contention for me. Not just the physical work that others would do, you would still have to have input into it and BS did not seem like the kind of man who would take vacations for a year. He seems very much a creature of habit.

If I had their money, Id stay in Florida for as long as possible, then come back to lovely rental for the duration. All of the headaches would be handled by my site manager, who would be instructed to only call me if there was an emergency. The decisions about countertops, paint chips etc would be managed by a designer. Id go shopping and keep up my social schedule, not much of an irritation for me. IF I had their kind of money. but I don't....just a pipe dream for me.

There is nothing nefarious about transferring the home assets to Honey as that is a common practice when a husband owns a private company. My parents did that way back in the day when my father opened his business. It is to protect the family assets in case of losing a large lawsuit where assets need to be seized. My parents are from the same generation of HS and BS and that was/is a common practice.

As for the Forest Hill home being demolished, again , this is a common practice. People buy homes for the land and build what they want. It is happening all over Toronto. If the Old Forest Hill home was one of the older original homes in that area then they may have either not liked the design or the updating of wiring and plumbing may not have made renovations worth it and it would be easier to demolish it.

I am not sure if you meant that these two situations are related to murder or suicide.

Not sure thats true. Do you have a link? Thank you.

Soon in Ontario everyone under the age of 25 will have their drugs covered.

Ontarians under the age of 25 will get access to free prescription drugs under a new pharmacare program known as OHIP plus.

Maybe they thought it would take a long time to sell, but it only needs that one buyer. I thiInk it is an ugly house, but others may love it. It would not be what I would buy if I had 6.9 million.

I hate to say it but I agree with you. The outside design made it look like an office building. The inside looked to be nice though.
