His horse was saddled but did he saddle it? (thaat is very important to know as weeach have a particular way we like our equipment)
That is a good question, I do not know the answer to that.

If BT, as manager, stumbled across activities that needed to be keep secret, than his disappearing, never to be found, would be of benefit to the circumstances at hand.

  • #683
I hope someone had the fortitude to get some pics of Ben’s horse before unsaddling him.
Good point. Have a good night, catch you guys later, supper time

  • #684
That needs to be explored better, by people who know what to look for, I don’t know.

Very true indeed.

The home ranch/BT’s place only 5-10
minutes from town. Nothing unusual an about being out late, especially on a weekend. Yes, out to the pub and socializing would be a fair assumption.
This town rolls up its sidewalks at 6pm lol

Okay I might have missed it, but does the small town of Merritt even have a pub? Would it have a cafe/restaurant that would be open at Ten p.m.? I have lived in small towns where there is no pub, (nearest being thirty five miles away in next town) and one cafe that closed by like Seven p.m. at the latest. Fast food was also Thirty Five miles away. I lived there for seven years and then moved to the town Thirty five miles away, because I had to commute to work there daily. Just wondering if there is anything in Merritt? I won't name the town I was in but if you wanted fast food you would go to the Co Op Gas Station which was open until ten and get a pizza or hot dog... The Co Op also served as the Pharmacy and the video store. How big is Merritt? Are Bens dogs kept in the house or outside? Were they hungry/thirsty when his horse was found and they checked his housing? Did they poo in house, and if so how much? So much can be determined by simple things. Did Ben use certain boots for work, as opposed to certain boots to go out to a friends or town? What boots are gone. What was in the saddle bags, if someone else saddled the horse, and there are items in the saddle bags from inside his residence, well you get the idea...hmmm. If on the clock at work you might have to follow the said rule of safety to say where your going etc. But it was allegedly his day off, would he follow the same safety procedure or could this be a one off where he just decided he was going to take a ride. Things happen that make us do things differently then usual sometimes. We divert from routines. I remember as a kid (worked horses for free board) I would get a call on a school night at two a.m., So and so was trying to mount so and so, broke out of stall. (true story) instead of waking my Mom to drive me. I got on my bike and hauled butt the mile down the road to go put them up. My Mom was none the wiser that I had been out that night for a good hour and then back to bed. I am just saying things make us divert from the norm. So when it comes to Ben we must think outside the box. Perhaps he did not sleep well that night and got up for an early morning ride, reporting to no one. Who knows...(that being the problem). IMHO

10 ain’t late, either, lol. Anyway, I don’t consider it to be.
Anna, you noticing police presence locally? Tysm

I haven't but that doesn't mean they aren't around. Drove past NR Sunday but just looked like a typical day.

Merritt has a POP of about 7500; we have numerous pizza and chinese food joints, 6 or more fast food stops, a few decent restaurants and 5 or 6 pubs/bars plus we even has SB and 3 nice coffee shops. At midnight you're eating from 7-11 or gas stations. I mean, it's still a ghost town but y0u can go out for drinks and I think the latest places stay open til 1am or so.

NR has a safety protocol plus, being as BT is the Manager he would be letting people know where he was going/when, etc.

They know his whereabouts/who he was with Saturday night but they can only guess that he was at home by himself that Saturday night ...

I've tried to familiarize myself with the Terms of Service and rules of WS but I'm wondering if someone could explain why members are not allowed (or discouraged) to bring up other Missing cases when they are in the vicinity; and also often involving the same LE and SAR groups? I"ve looked through the TOS but I cannot locate.

(for example, in BC the town of Lillooet does not have their own SAR and it is Nicola Valley (Merritt) SAR that is the group that gets the call).
All I can think of, SweetAnna, is that each specific case here must have it's own dedicated post/thread and cases shouldn't be co-mingled in one thread. Even if two or more folks go missing in the same general area, and/or the same resources are used to search, for example. I'm sure a mod would be more than happy to clarify for you :) Especially if I've "muffed" it up, lol!

I forgot to say by discouraging discussion of other cases on a particular case's thread helps keep things straight and focused, and can avoid confusion or going off on a tangent. IMOO.

IMO that one is the most feasible, ty.

Saturday evening reported here.

Searchers narrow time frame of Merritt cowboy's disappearance

BBM
As the search continues, Merritt RCMP have narrowed down the timeline of how long he has been out for, but are still trying to determine how Tyner made his way out to where he was riding, and where he was headed.

About 40 to 50 volunteers came to the Merritt area today to help with the ongoing search.

Merritt RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore says the RCMP helicopter aided in the search, along with ATVs, snowmobiles, and dog teams helping the ground crews.

"We've got some trackers, and the dogs are back out. We have lots of ranchers from the Nicola Ranch that are out on horseback doing some gridwork," Dunsmore says. "So we have lots of manpower, it's just we'll probably be expanding the search area today and looking outside of where we already looked."

Tyner's parents have also flown up from Wyoming, and have been in contact with police, while his brother has joined the searchers out on horseback.

At this point, RCMP say they have determined Tyner would've likely left on Sunday, however it's still not known how he got into the backcountry.

"We know of his whereabouts on Saturday night, so that gives us an extra day," Dunsmore explains. "We are still looking at how he may have gone up here, because we're still thinking that maybe he was driven up. So we don't know who would have driven him up, or if there's anybody out there that maybe brought him up with a truck and trailer, and we're looking for that person if that did happen."
If at first they thought he disappeared Sunday, but then found out out it was Saturday, how does it give you a day, wouldn’t you be further behind?

No, at first report he was last seen at 2pm Saturday. So it was not certain if he maybe left Saturday afternoon. But reporting he was seen Saturday night, it was then determined he didn’t leave until Sunday.

Ita. Plus, it would be abnormal for him, as a new manager, to deviate from his normal routine, imo. Ben’s lived & cowboyed in rude elements. He’s well aware of the danger.
Idk if he rode daily for his job but I have cowboy friends that like to give their horse/s a day off.

To answer your questions about Ben, you have to “sleuth deep”. Many are answered but not thru MSM. So, off limits for this thread, at the moment. Perhaps MSM will soon pick up some info to report. Sadly, I think any of us that have “sleuthed” see where this is going. I have faith in RCMP & am grateful they have assistance from the
MCU.

The family of missing rancher Ben Tyner will address media in #Merritt at 9 this morning. Tyner has been missing since January 26th. The RCMP's Southeast District Major Crime Unit has been assisting in the investigation.
