''A foreign country has surrendered “evidence” to Toronto homicide detectives probing the targeted murders of billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman, police documents filed in court reveal.
And, in a second indication of activity on the almost three-year-old case, detectives have recently served a search warrant somewhere in Canada.
“The results (of these searches) have yielded new evidence and have assisted investigators in corroborating existing evidence, such as witness statements, tips and video surveillance,” according to Det.-Const. Dennis Yim of the Toronto homicide unit. ''

''To date, police have prepared requests for two separate countries by way of treaty agreements with Canada. Yim refused to identify the countries, except to say they are among the 34 countries that have a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) to share information with Canada relating to criminal probes. The countries are: Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, South Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay. Canada has a similar treaty with a 35th jurisdiction, Hong Kong, but that sharing agreement is currently “suspended,” according to federal officials.
Yim told court during cross-examination that if he identified the countries publicly it would alert the killer or killers that police are on to them. He also would not say if the countries are of interest because the suspect lives there, visits there, banks there or has some other connection. And, if the person is not the killer, Yim said he did not want to “prejudice” an innocent party by informing the public that people believed the person was involved in the murders.''
