Watch the language please. As frustrating as these cases can be, please don't circumvent the Websleuths profanity filters. They are in place for a reason.

(And any kid over the age of 8 nowadays probably knows all the acronyms and workarounds ;) )

Thanks.

And the Bosma/Babcock cases

I've been assuming that Dr. Rogers is not among the forensic anthropologists interviewed recently in the media about BM precisely because she is directly involved in the investigation.

Can somebody please clarify why police started surveyance on BM ? What prompted it?

That's a detail we don't know at this point in time. All we know is that they seized his car from the scrap yard in October, found DNA, and surveilled him from that point on, likely earlier. What prompted them to do that in the first place is the million dollar question!

I hope so! She's top notch. Incredibly competent and professional, and works with such sensitivity for the victims and their families.

From the above article...

"One odd thing was that he had mentioned that he had met this guy in Italy, and I guess he was talking about the date he was on and he said, 'Oh, he liked it really rough.'"

Could there be victims of McArthur in Italy?

When they got into the van, Sgromo said he noticed it was "emptied out." "Oh, OK, he transports things, so that makes sense," he said to himself, remembering McArthur was a landscaper.

Inside, McArthur went and sat on the bench at the back of the van, and motioned for Sgromo to join him. He did.

As suspected, the Van is most likely where many of these murders may have taken place.

[h=1]Candlelight vigils, increased support for shocked community as investigation into alleged serial killer continues[/h]The 519 and Metropolitan Community Church are two of many organizations planning vigils and increasing services in wake of the Bruce McArthur murder investigation.
The Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto announced it will be holding a candlelight vigil for the victims on Sunday night.

“The revelation has produced feelings of shock, fear, grief and horror that have been felt across the GTA,” the church said in the announcement.

“This has affected just about everyone in Toronto,” said senior pastor Rev. Jeff Rock in the statement. “Maybe you went to the same gym as one of the victims. Maybe you have a Santa photo with your children and the accused murderer.

“In whatever way this has affected you, you are not alone.”

Community centers have increasing counseling and advocacy services in wake of the alleged murders

Church Bistro has a large planter just inside the door that they say was given to them by Bruce Mcarthur.

Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur is being represented by the firm of Edward Royle, a renowned criminal lawyer known for his remarkable memory and his “fearless” advocacy for his clients.

“The allegations against Bruce McArthur are the most horrific our city has ever seen,” said Adam Weisberg, a Toronto lawyer who worked with Royle. “Royle will ensure that he receives an excellent defense and will staunchly protect his client’s presumption of innocence.”
Toronto lawyers say that McArthur managed to secure one of the best firms in the country to represent him. Edward H. Royle & Partners LLP, founded in 2010, practices exclusively in the area of criminal law and has appeared in all levels of criminal court in Canada.

The firm is led by Royle who is known by some colleagues as a lawyer who takes up a variety of cases, but has a particular interest in issues of racial discrimination.

The bio on his firm’s page states that he was involved in a landmark case which established an accused person’s right to challenge prospective juries for potential racial bias.
McArthur’s case won’t be the first grisly Toronto murder that Royle will work on. In 2015, he represented Cristian Chis, a man convicted for the gruesome murder of a 67-year-old retired rail worker who was beaten to death and then decapitated.

In 2009, Royle withdrew as senior council for one of the six accused in one of the province’s largest mass slaying cases. His wife was seriously ill at the time and he could not commit himself to the case. The trial was for the April 2006 killings of eight men associated with the Bandidos biker gang.

[h=1]Christie Blatchford: Lead detective in Toronto serial killer case refutes charges of racism in probe[/h] [h=2]'You know, we actually did a bigger, longer investigation in 2013 when we were dealing with Southeast Asian guys,' Hank Idsinga says[/h]
“What I see a lot of in the media is that we’re not taking (the disappearances) seriously because people don’t see an army of police suddenly at Church and Wellesley,” Idsinga said.

“But they really don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. The man-hours we put into it in 2013 was just crazy.

“And they (51 Division) carried it on for another year after I left,” he said.
Kinsman’s disappearance — he was reported missing in June last year — was central to the start-up of a second major investigation, Project Prism, not because of his skin colour, but because toward the end of July, police got a break.

Idsinga can’t say what that was, for investigative reasons.
By the end of August, the 66-year-old McArthur was on the radar only in the Kinsman disappearance, and under surveillance.

But on Jan. 17, new evidence pointed right at the grandfatherly landscaper in the Kinsman case and the disappearance of Selim Esen, who was last seen in the village on April 14, 2017.

The surveillance on McArthur was now 24/7, with an investigator assigned to every surveillance team with instructions that McArthur should be arrested immediately if he was seen “alone with anyone else.”
He described McArthur as having “taken some steps to cover his tracks.”

In fact, one of these, the National Post has learned, was to apply for a pardon for a 2003 sentence for an attack on a man
He also had both a boyfriend and a roommate, neither of whom apparently had a clue that anything was awry with the man they knew.

Local investigators told CBC News there are no links between McArthur — who is has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of five men who disappeared from Toronto's Gay Village — and the open missing persons cases in Waterloo region, specifically the 2002 disappearance of Kitchener's David MacDermott.

"There is no information to suggest David MacDermott was involved in the investigation currently being conducted by Toronto Police," Waterloo Regional Police Services Insp. Mike Haffner said in an interview Thursday.

"We don't want to create hysteria on something that is completely inaccurate."
