CANADA Canada - Carolyn Pruyser, 18, Peace River, AB, 17 May 1984

So many young women disappeared in Western Canada during the late 1970s and early 1980s. We know about the highway of tears, but that isn't the only place where women disappeared and were murdered. The highway of tears victims were both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, and many were abducted while hitchhiking. Many young missing and murdered women who are not related to the highway of tears were also hitchhiking.

Carolyn Pruyser vanished in May 1984 in Peace Rivier. McAstocker was responsible for missing girls and women near Calgary and Edmonton. That's 500 miles (Calgary) and 300 miles (Edmonton) from Peace River. It's not an easy connection to make unless he was in fact in Peace River on that day.

He was released from prison after an 11 year sentence starting around 1982-3. In 1994 he was re-arrested for another murder, just after he was released. Was Gary McAstocker in prison in May 1984? I don't see Gary McAstocker as a likely suspect in the disappearance of Carolyn Pruyser.

"A person of interest in MacLean’s murder was sex offender Gary McAstocker, 34. McAstocker hanged himself in 1994 in his Edmonton home hours before he was to be questioned by police in the suspected murder of a 14-year-old Edmonton girl, Tina McPhee, who disappeared a month earlier while walking to school.

He had just been released from prison after serving his full 11-year sentence for a 1982 rape and a subsequent 1988 sexual assault committed while on parole.

When someone has gone missing in such a remote location so long ago, we have no choice but to wait for bones to be found. I very much doubt that her body is in another country. At most, her bones will be within maybe 20, maybe 200, miles from where she disappeared. That's my best guess. It depends entirely on whether her abductor was local, or, as was common at the time, someone who was passing through.

Her last stop was at the gas station, so someone who was at the gas station at the same time is the most likely suspect.

The Mounties always get their man, it might not be the right man, but it’s their man.

Well maybe in this case, they will get the right man……. Their man.

This came my way from a friend of a friend. Please note, at the bottom it says sources being Netnewsledger ( the same source as your most recent post by dotr) also as a source is Reddit. However the photo must have imo came from a family member of Alvin’s

This newspaper article from the Edmonton journal dated May 28, 1984 speaks of a 5:00 am sighting of Carolyn. You can find it on this Reddit page, it was posted by “ Heartanium”on January 18, 2023. This certainly matches with the post about Alvin the gas station attendant.

He might have seen something on May 18 as suggested. The article was most likely printed based on some info from the RCMP that they received in the 27/28 May 84.

It makes sense that between the 18 of May until the 27/28 May, 84, Alvin likely would have discussed with friends and family members about what he saw but was fearful to contact authorities because of the police officer connection. It’s also likely that if this is the case, he would have informed friends and family that he had made the call reporting what he saw. If so, there are people alive today that are aware of what Alvin told them. The posted article could be their way of finally breaking their silence and fear after all these years.

It’s possible Alvin gassed up the cruiser and Perhaps Carolyn informed him of her dilemma if an opportunity presented itself.

The photograph, if it is Alvin, undoubtedly came from someone that was close with Alvin at the time he vanished but it has now surfaced. Who else would have kept such a photograph all these years?

One thing that makes sense to me is that from the time Carolyn vanished ( shortly after midnight) until 5:00 am whatever vehicle she was travelling in would undoubtedly be getting low on gas.

It’s just over 300 kms between Peace River and Whitecourt. We don’t know where the gas gauge on the perps vehicle was at midnight, but it being mid May, the nighttime temperature wouldn’t be warm enough to have the engine shut off while parked. Likely about +10C at night in northern Alberta.

It would be interesting to see what was written in the Edmonton Sun regarding the case on May 28, 1984, and if there’s any information that possibly meshes with these suspicions. .

Correction: the newspaper article from my previous post did not come from Reddit, it’s from this websleuths page.

I feel there is enough information here to warrant further investigating

The first clipping is from the Whitecourt star July 4, 1984, second clip, same paper July 11, 1984. Third clip from Alberta report April 18, 1984.

Not necessarily connected, just noting fwiw, that this man went missing from Peace River in 1984, just days prior to CP..

We are supposed to believe that Alvin, parks his car on a gravel road, gets out, strip and neatly fold his clothes. (This info from his best friends mom.) then with a rope and handcuffs in his hands, goes trapping off into the woods 200 feet and hangs himself.

You try to walk barefoot from a gravel road into the woods. You won’t take 2 steps and you’ll be looking for your shoes.

Then, after hanging there for 3 days in daytime temps of about 23c and at the time of the longest day of the year, a search begins. At that time he would be getting pretty ripe to say the least.

Then after 3 weeks of searching with boots on the ground, Dogs, airplanes, boats, helicopters etc he wasn’t found.

Being that close to being car, dogs would have smelled him and found him within minutes. Further to that, what about the birds? Crows, magpies, and ravens would have been on him before he was reported missing. And no one noticed or heard the birds. No members of the search parties scared up the birds? The father of his best friend says he personally searched under the exact same tree that his remains were found.

There is no way on gods green earth that Alvin was hanging around the neighbourhood during the initial 3 week search.

So where was Alvin and when were his remains returned to where they were found? My bet is that he was origionaly hanged in a location very near to where Carolyn’s remains are.

Suicide… hardly, this is a case of murder.

Dotr, if you read the blogs made by Gary Poignant on Wordpress, he did one on Roger and his family believes he committed suicide by jumping into the river.

You’ll note the river is high at that time of the year with logs, icebergs, and debris coming down the river. It’s unsafe for boats to be on the water. That year, the Shaftesbury ferry didn’t go into the water until May28. That being said, Gary’s story about the hunters finding a freshly dug grave becomes somewhat not credible.

To add to my last post dotr, considering that the location of the supposed graves is some 100 river miles north of the Shaftesbury ferry, it’s unlikely the hunters would be crossing the Peace river in a fishing boat or any light craft until much later in the year. Perhaps 10-15 days later. The ferry is a lot more of a skookem vessel and would withstand travelling in more debris than what hunters would use to cross the river.

Could this be a clue as to when Alvin’s remains were placed at the location where they were found in 1994?

Bears are very territorial creachers with a keen sense of smell. If Alvin’s remains were placed where they were later found just days prior to this bear attack, could explain the bear attack. End of July bears arnt hungry like they are in the spring. By late July they are well on thier way to building fat with berries etc. so it’s unlikely the bear attack was out of hunger. A sow with cubs will attack a human if threatened, if that was the case here there would have been a lot more damage to Mr Noosky.

I think the bear came across Alvin’s remains that had been placed there days prior, the bear likely smelled them and chewed on them, thus getting a taste fro human. So it would have found that Mr Noosky smelled much the same so the bear went to inspect to hopefully get more of what it had just aquired a taste for from chewing on Alvin’s bones. Found the smell to be still alive thus abandoning his quest.

This could explain the bear attack that occurred on July 28, 1989. The bear attack could be because Alvin’s remains had just showed up in its territory just prior to the attack
