Canada - CB, 3, may be in Monteregie, last seen 11am near Newman Blvd, LaSalle borough, Montreal QC, 14 Jun 2025

Do you buy that story? I have fasted for four days without food and water and it was extremely difficult. And it was an outside fast in a lean-to in very warm weather. I don’t know about a three year old.

Just had a closer look at CB’s face (managed to enlarge it). Poor little pumpkin. Brave little pumpkin.

If she wasn't moving around very much and was well-hydrated to start with I believe that she could have survived. She looks rough in the non-cropped photo. Lips are super chapped, skin looks awful, she's clearly peed all over herself repeatedly, and one of her eyes is swollen shut.

The part that I find implausible is that she allegedly just sat in one place in a ditch for several days. I can't imagine even the chillest quietest three year old just sitting in one place for that long.

<modsnip - no link>

I am shocked that someone did not see her sooner especially after coming out of the ditch. This is a very busy highway as the main route connecting Montreal to Ottawa with thousands of vehicles passing this point daily. What a little survivor.

For those who have not seen it, this is an aerial photo of the ditch next to highway 417 in the vicinity where CB was found. Some francophone media outlets are reporting that she hid in the ditch until today when she started to walk along the roadway.

She probably just curled up in the ditch to comfort herself and was too scared to move!

I think anything is possible in an intense anxiety/freeze response out of fear. I’ve been trying to think about how my 4 year old would have behaved. It’s so hard to know in a traumatic situation.

Regarding the eye, there is a hair curl covering her left eye. I would expect her to be really sun burnt after four days. But, who knows…just my opinion.

Although the LE wouldn’t say, her dad posted that he and other family are with CB. And, he asked that people respect their privacy at this time.

ETA - anything is possible, and I have been wrong before.

Oh I think you're right about the eye just being hair! I zoomed in and thought it looked like a bug bite or something but I found a higher resolution image and it does look like hair in that one. That's good. She does look a bit sunburnt to me, on the right side of her face especially. Hoping for a quick recovery for her and not too much trauma. Poor little thing.

Also initially thought swollen eye but appears to be the curl however the chapped lips, soiled leggings and dirty /dry hands, apparent... This child really is a warrior /survivor... So much to be told.. Am thankful she's okay, and with her loved ones

I am just so happy she is alive and well. I am curious about the back story but I can do without it. The little sweetie’s privacy is what is most important to me.

Apparently the mother and child were seen in Casselman, the nearest town to Saint-Albert.

I am relieved but heartbroken. People elsewhere have said that the mother's logic, of telling their child to hide in a field away from danger, does make sense in a psychosis.

I am so sorry for CB. I am also sad for her mother, when she comes to her senses and exits this state and realizes what she did.

but did she really not know what she was doing?
why would she use the exit with no surveillance camera and leave her phone at home and search what she searched if she wasn't planning something?

That would have been the case if, in a psychotic state, she really did believe that she had to flee the city and hide her child from some danger. Sufficiently severe delusions could convince her many things were necessary, things that she would not have done in a normal state of mind.

oh my ... poor sweet little ... just cannot imagine what she has been through, deeply grateful she is safe with her daddy now. Bless her and all who love her.
Godspeed CB

well, I'm certainly happy she didn't murder her child but I don't think she should ever have custody or unsupervised visits again
she's lucky CB didn't die or get picked up by a criminal
she's not trustworthy or responsible regardless of her mental illness IMO

also I want to know how the dog died ...

But a scared child might?

Has the mother been diagnosed with a mental illness?

Has the mother been diagnosed with a mental illness?

This information is unclear I believe. Not sure they would release her medical records to the public? However, the fact that she left her child in a ditch and then couldn't remember suggests she is either suffering from an episode of something, or she is pretending to be suffering from an episode of something. Whatever that something is, it presumably relates to her mental health.

I'm speculating if she had a formal diagnosis then LE may have been less likely to arrest her? Might instead have sectioned her under the mental health act? But not sure how that works in Canada.
