I got some NK95's at the dollar store
do you think they're the real thing? lol

I've read that there are counterfeit masks for sale, still trying to understand what makes the rating on the package legitimate.

I've read that there are counterfeit masks for sale, still trying to understand what makes the rating on the package legitimate.

I ordered some KF94 masks (same as N95 but Korean-made numbering system) and they were legitimate. I ordered the smallest amount possible just in case they they weren't legitimate, and I read carefully all the reviews by people who bought from this seller and from people who re-ordered them. When I got them I tested the masks to see if they were authentic. Online it says that you shouldn't be able to blow out a candle while wearing an authentic mask, and water shouldn't leak through it. I tested all the masks I use, including these KF94 mask I received. All of them passed the test, including various 3- layer surgical masks I use underneath a three-level cotton mask over it to keep it tight around my face. The KF94 masks I bought also have a wire over the nose area that you can adjust to your face. To get a tighter fit for this mask, I use a paperclip to stretch the elastic ties tighter around the back of my head, as it isn't tight enough if I just use the elastic ties over my ears. I just keep a few paperclips in my car in case I need them.

I was actually surprised that the dollar tree masks that I have at home for other purposes met the standard of not leaking water and not being able to blow out a candle while wearing them. So in an emergency (if I had no surgical masks), I would feel okay wearing 2 of these masks underneath a cotton 3 layer mask if needed.

The KF94 masks are more expensive, but I plan to order more and keep them on reserve in case community spread of the variants become widespread in our area. Otherwise, the surgical masks worn under a 3 level cotton mask is fine for my purposes, the cotton mask helps the surgical mask stay tight on my face so no air leaks.

'Don't make plans for Easter': Ford
Ontario is considering additional restrictions to combat a surge in COVID-19 cases, Premier Doug Ford said Tuesday as he warned people against making plans for Easter weekend.
“Everything’s on the table right now, so folks be prepared,” he said. “I’m asking you, don’t make plans for Easter. … I won’t hesitate to lock things down.”

'It's beyond appalling:' Ontario long-term care home residents beg for release from COVID-19 confinement
Residents of Ontario's long-term care homes begged on Tuesday to be allowed outside, saying anti-pandemic restrictions that have confined them indoors for more than a year make no sense given almost all have now been vaccinated.

Some compared their situations to solitary confinement, and urged the provincial government to act on what they called a gross violation of their basic human rights.

Found it.

AHS asks some immunization site attendees to be tested for COVID-19 due to small risk of potential exposure
March 30, 2021

CALGARY – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is asking some individuals who attended the South Calgary Health Centre for COVID-19 immunization on March 23 and March 25 to book a test as a precautionary measure, due to potential exposure to a healthcare worker who has since tested positive for COVID-19.

https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/news/releases/2021/Page15847.aspx

It doesn't state the healthcare worker's own vaccination status. Would be interested to know.

B.C. reports 1,013 new COVID-19 cases, highest-ever single day total

As disturbing as this news is, I had a chuckle over "The surge continues to be driven by transmission in the Lower Mainland."

Um .. approximately 75% of the population of BC lives in the Lower Mainland ;)

We have a Provincial Health Office notice right on the main door of our condo building that masks are required, and folks walk right past it like it doesn't exist. I went to my car the other day and passed 4 separate people, none of whom were wearing masks. When I mentioned to one man, his response was "Heh, masks don't do anything." I contacted strata council and said this is an Order not an Option. They have put additional signs throughout the building and I have seen a few more wearing masks.

it's so frustrating that some people just don't care
a year into this mess and these people have no excuse to be so reckless with others' lives
