My loving message to the great country of Canada, I think you know these guys wink:

(Triumph was a Canadian hard rock band formed in 1975 that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between the band's 16 albums and DVDs, it has received 18 gold and nine platinum awards in Canada and the United States. Wikipedia)

The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the lines

Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay

The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart

Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:
Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way

All your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you can

Rock on Canada!

Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Don't waste my time

Unfortunately, this came too late, people had already made plans and aren't changing them:
'I'm terrified': Tourists flood Vancouver Island on Easter weekend despite travel restrictions

British Columbians hit the road despite long weekend health warnings

Lots of strangers here in my little community this weekend, many of them visiting family. I hope they don't go into shops and their hosts self-quarantine, but is that likely?

The crazy thing is, we have far more cases right now than last Easter, when people mostly stayed home. This is definitely going to be a bad spring, IMO.

Mask brands that failed and passed quality tests:

" ... as demand for these masks has grown, so has the presence of counterfeits and poor-quality respirators in Canadian stores.

To find out how much Canadians can trust what they're buying, CBC's Marketplace tested 14 KN95 and KF94 respirator brands purchased from Amazon and big box stores."

Masks that contain graphene should have the substance labeled on the packaging. From a bit of research, my understanding is that masks that are blue on one side and grey on the other likely contain graphene. Masks that are white and blue are safe.

"Disposable face masks containing potentially toxic graphene particles are being recalled.

Health Canada issued the notice on Friday and said wearers could inhale graphene, which may be dangerous for the lungs."

Dr. Homer Tien, president of Ornge, to lead Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine task force

“The head of Ornge, Ontario’s air ambulance agency, will be leading the province’s vaccine distribution task force.

“As Ontario moves into Phase 2 of our vaccine rollout plan, Dr. Homer Tien, trauma surgeon and President and CEO of Ornge Air Ambulance, will serve as the operational lead of the COVID-19 Distribution Task Force,” said a tweet from Ornge on Sunday.“

Canada’s variant-fueled covid-19 surge prompts new restrictions
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/04/03/canada-coronavirus-restrictions-variants/

“Several Canadian provinces are imposing new restrictions on social gatherings and businesses in a bid to blunt a resurgence of the coronavirus that is hitting more young people with severe illness than before and straining some health-care systems.“

[...]

““As the new variants spread, you will see that covid-19 is killing faster and younger,” Adalsteinn Brown, co-chair of a panel of scientists advising Ontario Premier Doug Ford, said Thursday as he unveiled new modeling for the province. “It’s spreading far more quickly than it was before, and we cannot vaccinate quickly enough to break this third wave.”“

you know it's bad when we hit the Washington Post:

This new-variant wave concerns me. I can't stop thinking about the second wave in the 1918 pandemic, a new-variant wave that was more deadly to a different age group. The difference is that in 1918, the first wave was deadly to people 20-40, the second wave was deadly to people over 50.

My impression is that we first see numbers explode in Ontario, Quebec and BC, then the rest of the country catches up 2 weeks later. For me, that means taking more precautions today and scheduling appointments for no sooner than 4 weeks from now - so I can see whether we have another peak.

I was at a coffee shop on the weekend for a takeout coffee. The man in front of me, with a South American accent, had no mask. The two boys (age about 12) behind me both wore masks. The woman and her 5-6 year old daughter behind them had no masks. The owner of the coffee shop was not wearing a mask.

Picking up a gourmet coffee is a rare treat for me. I won't do it again for a few months. I was very surprised at the absence of masks, but it demonstrates how relaxed too many people are about mask use.

it's just so strange that these people must see the news about deaths but disregard it

Ontario's on fire. We're getting our first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine tomorrow. I would have preferred Moderna or Pfizer, but at our age, AZ is all we can get where we live.

Messaging about the vaccine here is very confusing. I called health services today and I'm not eligible yet. The person on the phone said that scheduling vaccines is like working with the stock market - information changes on a daily basis.

I suspect I have to ride out this wave without a vaccine. I know people who had the first shot in March, they are being told they may have to wait until October for the second shot. Canada has been a mess with vaccines. Since WW2, Canada viewed itself as the little sister of the USA - protected. The pandemic has made it clear that Canada has to look after itself, which has left the country vulnerable regarding access to vaccines.
