Ontario will enter province-wide lockdown as of Christmas Eve, sources say
''All of Ontario will be under lockdown as of Christmas Eve, sources tell CTV News Toronto.
These sources, who have direct knowledge of the situation, say the lockdown will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 24 and will last for 28 days in the southern portions of the province and 14 days in the northern parts.
This lockdown will look similar to the province-wide shutdown back in March, with only essential businesses being allowed to remain open.''

Southern Ontario to be under a 28-day lockdown, 14-day lockdown for northern Ontario: sources
Ontario reports 2,316 new coronavirus cases, 25 deaths
I hope this is successful in bringing the case numbers back down and avoiding a post-Christmas disaster. I wish that this could have been put into place sooner, but I guess we need to keep the stores open for Christmas shopping, right? Bah!
Yes LadyL it is effective at 12:01 on the 26th. Press was putting it out as Christmas Eve yesterday, before the formal presser today with Premier Ford. Press was wrong, imagine that LOL Ford said last Friday he would have meetings this past weekend and decide based on Dr's recommendations and announce it Monday at 1:00. Press should have waited until today when it was formally announced.now the news says BoxingDay start? I'm confused cause yesterday they said Christmas Eve start

I'm a bit concerned about the new and more contagious virus strain that has emerged in the area around London. Most articles focus on whether the vaccine is effective with the new strain.
What I want to know is : what does "more contagious" mean? We're masking, hand washing and being ever so cautious already, so how is this new strain more easily transmitted? Does it hang in the air longer, does it survive longer on surfaces - what do we need to know to protect ourselves from a strain that has mutated to transmit more easily?
