Found Deceased Canada - Dan Archbald, 37, & Ryan Daley, 43, Ucluelet, Bc, 16 May 2018

Could it have been an animal attack? Lots of bears and cougars in that very wild area...

Went for a walk after dinner last night in Sooke (an hour outside Victoria, not nearly as remote as Ucluelet) and we encountered a black bear! Thankfully it was afraid of us and not aggressive, but if cubs are nearby they sure can be!

If it is Dan and Ryan, hopefully they will be able to find the cause of death in an autopsy.

Was it reported somewhere how far these remains are from the marina? I thought I saw it stated somewhere that it was 25 mins...Does that min 25 mins on foot or 25mins driving? 25 mins on foot could be close to 2 miles, but 25 mins drive could put the boys 40-50 miles away depending on the roads...

Nothing has been released about the location of the remains.

However, since
1. there were no rumours of anything going on over the weekend until police issued a news release Monday afternoon, and
2. there hasn't been a single photo of the scene (typically with police tape and police cars and other vehicles, as we've all seen many times before...)
I am assuming it is completely off the beaten track of villagers/exploring tourists/reporters

This seems a really strange case to me. Two youngish, and obviously fit men, overpowered and murdered. Unusual event.

I just started following this case so I never got the chance to read any of the info posted on the missing pages, etc.

My first thought (and I'm sure this won't be well received)...what if the two got into a disagreement? Any chance of a murder suicide? Could be why the missing page has been taken down and why it's completely silent. Hope not of course but just speculating.

<modsnip: removed quoted post that was unapproved>

There was a map shown earlier that indicated Ucluelet and Tofino.......the measurement and point used was 32 km from starting point.

In my opinion, when there are no updates, it's usually that the law enforcement are working furiously in the background.

<modsnip>

I still feel they were walking quickly to a ride no one knew about.

This is so sad
I do not understand this part for the life of me................they have been away for 8 weeks! It does not make sense that Family/Friends would not have been there for them. They had been in Port for three days! Lots of opportunities to communicate !!!
What would that make you think?
I know how it makes me think...........

I'm sure you're not the only person who's speculated that. But I think they must have had a vehicle, and no one's reported a missing vehicle.

Discussion with respect to the incorrect image has been removed so it does not create any confusion.

I am so curious to know if their 'baggage' was found with them.

from the article linked upthread:
RCMP investigating remains of two people found in Ucluelet area

<bbm>

Let's not kid ourselves ;) ... RCMP are very clear on where they were discovered, so it is information that is not being released for strategic investigative reasons.

I came across this article later with a little more detail, which supports your point.

From the article:

“RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet told the Georgia Straight that for investigative reasons, the date, time, and place of where and when the remains where found are not being released at this time.”

Vancouver Island police investigating two human remains found near Ucluelet

While a disagreement is certainly possible it seems unlikely the two would make it through 8 weeks in a confined space together, make it to land and then have an issue. The missing page on Facebook was taken down almost immediately after the story broke that remains were found. There was already speculation happening all over social media so it seems most likely that those close to the men just didn’t want to endure more speculation while remains were being identified.
Hoping we have some answers soon. Ben Kilmer is still missing and this has really been troubling for those of us on the island. I can’t even imagine what the families are going through.

<modsnip>

Most of this region has always been leased from the government for long term logging. Other than fishing and tourism, those are the only industries. The logging company builds roads to access timber, and once an area has been clear cut, abandons it for somewhere else.

So my guess would be this is an area formerly logged <modsnip>

My thoughts are, if it turns out to be them, and if it was murder, someone local would be the likely culprit, or someone who's explored the area well. Which is extremely scary for a village of less than 1,700 people.

Sadly, it could yet turn out to be organized crime involved and in that case we may never know what really happened.

My gut tells me they were doing this together alone - hence no family around, for a reason.

I agree totally - someone new they had arrived.

Is there a thread for Ben Kilmer? I didn't see one. Both of these cases are just heartbreaking.
