Is there a link to domestic violence related to Dawn Dumont? I've looked and have been unable to find anything other than anecdotal claims from unnamed people.

It's one thing to exclude heritage from a missing person's profile, and something entirely different to exclude gender and age.
There is a higher incidence of missing and murdered people in the indigenous community in Canada. However, that does not mean that all missing Indigenous persons are victims of murder.
Factually, a 48 year old woman and her 7 year old son parted ways with someone at 6 PM. Her vehicle, blanket and purse were found next to a fast flowing river. She and her son are missing.
Here's the allegation of domestic violence, but this is a friend or colleague making the claim. Is there any factual evidence, such as a police report, to support this claim?
"Dawn Walker, the executive operating officer for the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, and her seven-year-old son Vincent Jansen were last in contact with friends and colleagues on Friday.

Was the domestic abuse against the 7 year old as well? If this was a domestic abuse situation, wouldn't Dawn be targeted while she is alone? Why would the 7 year old be missing?

Five days after this water warning was issued, Dawn and her son apparently vanished next to the river very near the location where 3 people got into trouble days earlier. Did Dawn routinely carry life jackets when she went to the river? Did she routinely tell others when she was going to the river or beach?

I agree many signs point to an accident, but there may be more we don’t know.
Why are locals being asked to check their buildings/property for something out of the ordinary now? Why is surveillance for the park being requested from only Friday Jul 22 6:30 to Saturday Jul 23 9:30 when her vehicle is said to have been located at the park on Monday Jul 25?

I suppose police are looking for dashcam footage to confirm that Dawn drove her truck to the Chief Whitecap Park parking lot. Searching property and buildings near the river would be an optimistic hope that, if they ended up in the water, they were able to get out of the water downstream ... but were perhaps too weak to get help.I agree many signs point to an accident, but there may be more we don’t know.

Police have said there's no evidence of criminal activity, so they are doing everything they can to search for bodies in the area near the truck and downstream from the truck. It sounds like the weir has not been searched, but that's an extremely dangerous task as the weir creates a water turbine.
I agree, I have had the same alarm bells going off about many cases of a missing woman, of any ethnicity, who has no reason to go missing. I thought from the beginning the parked truck, picnic blanket, discarded purse but no phone feel like staging.
Why would a mother take her little boy out after dinner to swim alone in a dangerous area where there were no people around? He's only 7!
He'd had a full day of fun, she was going away to Edmonton, it makes no sense.
The fact, now revealed, that the ex was the last one to see her and the boy alive, just heightens my dread. We've been here before.
(Reminder, police are looking for video of the parking lot after 6:30 pm Friday, ex says he dropped off his son around 6).

It is standard practice to bring life jackets to water, whether boating or swimming - particularly when children are involved. Canadian Summer often means travelling with life jackets in the car regardless of destination - because a stop at the lake, river, or pool is common.
Does anyone know whether Dawn practiced recommended water safety with the use of life jackets for everyone when near water?
If the answer to this question is yes, she practiced water safety, then we can rule out that they fell into the river.

If her ex is the only source of information saying that she and the boy went to that river, then I am unsure if they ever arrived there.

What if she was afraid of him and was also trying to protect her son? Could she have staged the scene and had a friend drive them from the scene, as a way to escape her ex and start a new life?

I don't think he's the one saying that. It's more that her truck and purse were found there.
Her ex said in interview quoted above, she might have moved somewhere for a 'fresh start'.
And not told her family, friends, co-workers and employer, missed the historic visit of the Pope, is ignoring the announcement of the shortlisting of her book for a major prize, leaving her very expensive truck behind in a random parking lot, leaving a packed suitcase in her home...
He's gonna have to try harder to convince me.

This stands out for me.

What that says to me is that the married father of a young girl, who parted ways with Dawn four years ago, shares custody of a seven year old son with Dawn. Because he is an active father, Dawn is prevented from taking the boy to another city. That is, the boy is entitled to have a relationship with his father and therefore the child must remain in Saskatoon as long as the father lives there as well.
I could see Dawn viewing that as controlling or worse, but Canadian law looks at the best interests of the child and does not allow one parent to deprive the child of regular contact with the other parent. Allegations of domestic violence would not be enough to change the rights of the child because courts do not view spousal conflict as indicative of violence towards children.

This suggests that the 7 year old boy had a really nice day with his father, sister and step-mother before joining his mother at 6 PM. After a long day at day-camp, dinner, visiting the park and riding the mini-train in 22°C weather (71°F), his mother took him to Chief Whitecap Park around 6:30 PM. That's a long day for a 7 year old.
Hopefully there's dashcam footage of Dawn driving to the river to help focus the search.
