The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a theft investigation.

It is alleged:

- during the dates of Friday, November 19, 2021 to Wednesday, February 23, 2022 a man targeted victims using online social media chat groups and online dating platforms in the Toronto area

- the man met his victims in person, and would eventually attend the victim's residence

- the man would ask to use the victims' cellular device to make an alleged phone call, but would use the opportunity to send electronic money transfers from the victims' phones to himself

- the man also used the victims' credit cards to make point of sale purchases

- investigators believe the total cumulative loss to the victims is a combined total of $13,000.00

Jackson Luu, 20, of Toronto was arrested. He has been charged with:

1. Attempt Theft Under
2. eight counts of Theft Under
3. ten counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4. eight counts of Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Data

He was scheduled to appear at College Park Courts on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 9:30 a.m., room 507.
Investigators believe there may be more victims.

Toronto police urge more victims to come forward after at least 5 people allegedly scammed by man they met online | CP24.com
''The first incident was reported to police in November 2021 but Contant said that he believes the accused began targeting victims "way before that."

Contant appealed to anyone who may have been scammed to reach out to investigators if they haven't done so already.

"A common theme in this investigation is the level of manipulation these victims were subjected to," Contant said.

"Some of the victims targeted had learning disabilities and physical disabilities. In all cases, the victims were simply looking for some companionship and instead they were deceived for financial gain. Not only does this have a financial impact on the victims, but it also has a huge emotional impact."

Contant said he was "shocked" by how easy it was for the suspect to gain access to credit card and banking information by briefly using the victims' phones.

"Victims of this type of crime often are feeling embarrassed and humiliated and might not want to report it to police. No one should feel like that. It is my job to investigate and find those responsible," he said.''

''Earlier this month, police arrested a Jackson Luu on 11 counts of theft under, 13 counts possession of property obtained by a crime, and 15 counts of unauthorized use of credit card data. They said that he would meet up with people he had met using online dating apps and use the victims’ phones to e-transfer himself money and use their credit cards.

Now, police are looking for more victims after speaking with five people who were swindled. Police originally said that he had made away with $13,000 from his victims, but now they’ve upped that to $30,000, and the total could keep climbing.''
