Missing American family's abandoned car discovered in Dease Lake, B.C. | CBC News

Police in northern B.C. are searching for a missing American family after their car was found abandoned with a note suggesting they'd gone to look for gas to fill the tank.

Dease Lake RCMP say they discovered the black 2018 Toyota Yaris along a power line on Monday, about 500 metres from Highway 37.

Despite a note indicating the car had run out of fuel and the driver had gone to find more, checks with local gas stations haven't turned up any signs of the family.

The vehicle has an Oregon licence plate, and investigators have learned it belongs to a family of four that had driven into Canada at the Roosville border crossing south of Fernie on June 9. Police believe the vehicle arrived in the Dease Lake area the next day.

The missing family members include 24-year-old Jeffrey Phan, 24-year-old Michelle Lesaca, three-year-old Satana Phan and two-year-old Satan Phan, according to Mounties. The car bears the Oregon licence plate 099KRW

Wow, this is strange. I wonder why their plans changed and if they were ever reported as missing.

This sounds scary. I sure hope they are staying somewhere and just have not went back to get the car. Fingers crossed.

Just had a thought. Nobody probably reported them missing because they were supposed to be in the Philippines.

Does along a power line mean on a power line road. In Arizona we have power line roads all over and we can take our atv's down these roads but never a vehicle. I did a satellite search and seems a lot of trees and buildings all around. IMO

That is a whole lot of driving! From Portland to Roosville border crossing is almost 600 miles and way out of the way. Then another almost 1,200 miles up to Dease Lake?! I wonder why they didn't just go straight north on I-5 from Portland to the Blaine border crossing. Maybe they had a specific reason for going northeast through Idaho?

from VancouverSun link in OP:

RCMP say Jeffery Phan and Michelle Lesaca, both 24, and their two children Satana Phan, 3, and Satan Phan, 2, planned to travel to the Philippines from Oregon but changed their plans.

Investigators say that on Friday, May 25, they checked into the airport in Portland but cancelled the ticket and never boarded the plane.

Instead, the family drove to Canada, where they entered at the Roosville border crossing near Fernie on June 9.
------------

cancelling their flight sure sounds intentional. Canada is the opposite direction of the Philippines.

Makes you wonder what was going on in their personal lives to do such a thing.

Missing American family believed spotted near Dease Lake, B.C.: RCMP | CBC News

"Police in northern B.C. say air searchers have spotted four people who match the description of a missing American family, whose car was found abandoned with a note suggesting they'd gone to look for gas to fill the tank earlier this month.

RCMP said search and rescue crews found a group around 3 p.m., but did not elaborate on where.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said officials are gathering more resources to reach the people and bring them to safety.

"Although the identity of the individuals has not been confirmed, authorities are hopeful that these are who they have been looking for," the officer said."
"RCMP and search and rescue workers are currently scouring the area where the family's vehicle was found, from the air and the ground. The RCMP dog team from Terrace has been brought in to help".

I'm struggling to get past a toddler named Satan? Uuuhhhhhh. Yikes. Obviously I hope everyone is found safe and sound. But... It's weird enough when kids names are so similar (I've known two families with both a Rachel and a Rachelle) but Satan? I'm not even Christian and I find that concerning.

Satana and Satan. The names did make me pause. I wonder if the parents are Satanists.

Maybe (hopefully) they are named for a place in the Philippines? imo.

I seriously feel so much better knowing that! I guess I just ASSumed that name was "evil" in every language, but that was ignorant of me. I hope they have indeed found this family alive!

I sure hope they had transferrable tickets or they stood to lose a lot of money on those flights! Why even drive to the airport and not board a plane?? Maybe if I was trying to get away from someone or something, this may make sense as well as why they are driving way out of the way and so far. I'm trying to put myself in this position and why I would do all of the quick change plans and traversing, this particular path. I hope this is them and they are all okay. With a 2 and 3 y/o that is a lot of travelling.
