Toronto Police launch homicide investigation after remains of an adult Caucasian male were found in a fire pit near Downsview Park on Saturday morning.
The victim appears to be a Caucasian male between 20 and 35 years old with short black hair, Dawson said, adding a citizen walking through the park had alerted police of the finding.

Investigators are still working on determining the victim’s identity. “If any family, friends, neighbours, anyone who you haven’t seen since Friday and you are unable to get in touch with — anything like that, we’d be very interested in,” said Dawson.

Police do not believe any of their missing person reports match the victim.

Police arrived on scene at Northwood Park to find a body in a fire pit similar to the image shown.

Det. Shannon Dawson said the investigation is focused on determining who the deceased man is.

The motive is unknown and police have no information on suspects at this time.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact them.

Cops are still trying to identify the man found in fire-pit, hoping to hear from anyone who noticed a bonfire Friday night or early Saturday morning to give them a call, especially if they noticed any vehicles or people in the park

A man’s body that was found badly charred in a fire pit in a North York park was likely set ablaze in an attempt to prevent identification, police say.

The body was discovered in Northwood Park, in the Sheppard Avenue West and Keele Street area, by a passerby at around 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Though a cause of death has not been released, Det.-Sgt. Kevin Leahy told CP24 on Monday afternoon that investigators believe the man was the victim of a homicide and was burned in an attempt to conceal his identity.

Man identified.
At the time, police told CBC News the man's description did not match anyone who had been reported missing.

However, later on Saturday police say Soto was reported missing. He was last seen Friday, April 8 in the Assiniboine Road and Sentinel Road area.

Police tell CBC News Soto was identified through DNA testing. When his body was first found, there had been a recent fire in the pit and police could not immediately identify Soto's remains.

Police continue to search for a suspect and are asking anyone who might have seen Soto where he was last seen to contact them.

http://www.cp24.com/news/more-than-30-murders-remain-unsolved-in-toronto-in-2016-1.3222000
January 10, 2017 In a year marked by what Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders called “brazen” gun violence, the city’s homicide department is now dealing with more than 30 unsolved murders in 2016 alone.
Canada’s largest city has seen 69 homicides so far this year, a 25 per cent increase from 2015 and the highest number of homicides in Toronto since 2008.
The homicide unit currently has 18 unsolved murders from 2015, and this year, they are dealing with close to double that number.
Here are some of the 2016 cases that have yet to be solved:
Julio Cesar Soto’s body was discovered burned in a North York park fire pit on the morning of April 9. Little information has been released about his death but police previously said they believe Soto was murdered and then burned in an attempt to conceal his identity.
