I believe I read in an article previously posted that LE did not expect him to return alive but hoped to bring his remains home.
There is this statement in more recent article:
"Evidence located in a shed beside Evans’ home led police to inform the family it was likely Evans was dead. Wise remembers feeling angry but telling herself to have faith in police."
And the article itself does a good job of pointing you back through older ones.
Ah, thank you
@AnalysisMonster.
Although in this article Jamie Wise tells us police believed Justin was dead from their viewing of the state of the shed, I don't recall seeing an actual statement by LE to verify this, nor a statement from them that analysis of the blood found in the shed proved it was Justin's.
On June 1st:
Det. Insp. Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch stated,
“...We don’t think
at this point that he was murdered,” he explained...
The case is now considered “an ongoing death investigation,” he said.
(bbm)
and in another publication, on June 2nd, Det. Watson states
"...Police said they don't believe Evans met with foul play...
"We have not come to a final conclusion yet, but we are conducting a death investigation on behalf of the coroner," Det. Matt Watson said.
If LE "
don't think at this point" Justin was murdered, do they consider with further investigation they'll conclude he was indeed murdered?
Then on June 3rd:
'Police are working with the coroner and forensic services to determine the cause of Evans’s death.
“We have not come to a final conclusion,” Watson said, adding it’s not known how long that process will take.
Watson offered his condolences to Evans’s family.
When the cause of death is determined, it might not be made public through a news release, Watson said, adding it’s not common practice to do so
now that the death has been deemed to be not criminal in nature.
“It’s been a very complex and difficult investigation,” he said. “They have been through excruciating emotional pain.”
It's not clear to me if the June 3rd statement "
the death has been deemed to be not criminal in nature" is a more recent statement than when Det. Watson said "
we don't think at this point Justin was murdered", but the word "
deemed" would have me believe LE has now determined conclusively Justin's death was not criminal in nature.
Perhaps the statements were made at the same time, even though they appear to be inconsistent, IMO, or the discrepancies in them are from inaccurate reporting.
But, who knows...
All I've read about what allegedly transpired both before and after Justin disappeared renders the whole case inexplicable, to me.
And I'm just a curious outsider. If Justin's loved ones can sleep, I can't imagine the agony to wake each morning and have the horrors they experience flood in to their consciousness, once again.
Prayers for solace for Justin's family.
