“A woman who told CTV News she'd seen the van said it appeared to have broken down on the side of the northbound lanes.

"The hood was up and there was a young couple sitting in lawn chairs in the ditch. The girl got up and waved at me," Carrie Haruluk said.”

What happened to tourist couple found dead on Alaska Highway?

I wonder if the land adjacent to their broken down van was Crown Land or privately owned land. If privately owned I’m certain LE have their eye on the landowner who might’ve worked himself into a psychotic, murderous rage over the mistaken belief this innocent, young couple had decided to camp on his property.

My other theory resembles that of the senseless McCann murder, also occurring in a semi-remote, wilderness area. A meth induced lunatic spots victims stopped along the highway who he decides to rob, they put up a fight in self-defence and he murders them. Regardless of the older 80s van, anyone heading towards the Yukon on the Alaskan highway is well advised to carry cash at least for emergency purposes.

Either way, it’s common everywhere for rabid nutcases to live on the fringes of society. If there was a good eye witness, I’m confident this person isn’t as invisible as he may think he is. JMO

depends what you cladssify as close

This is the second homicide investigation to occur in a week in northern B.C. and police acknowledge there are growing community concerns. The Dease Lake incident occurred on July 19, 2019 and the other incident occurred between July 14-15, 2019, approximately 470 kilometres away.

Also depends on how common murders are there. This is potentially 5 murders.

That’s not real close.

Just to offer others some perspective, the province of BC is more than twice the size as the State of California.

The northern portion is rugged wilderness, very sparsely populated.

Some people see the world as black and white, they expect everyone to respect the autonomy of others. Motor vehicle regulations require that a stalled vehicle has to be immediately removed from the highway. Creating a driving safety issue could be a trigger for some people - road rage is a well known thing.

And what if the vehicle came to a grinding halt right in the middle of the road and Lucas was unable to move it. When the vehicle stopped, the Broughtons stopped and the husband, a mechanic, asked if he needed any help. Wouldn’t it be logical for him to have asked, “I’ll give you a hand to move it off the road”, not leaving it in a dangerous position for other motorists.

From your link:
Two Port Alberni teens are missing after their vehicle was found on fire on Highway 37 near the Stikine River Bridge on July 19, and a body discovered at a nearby highway pullout.

Dease Lake RCMP are looking for Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, who were known to be driving the vehicle found on fire 50 kilometres south of Dease Lake and have not been in contact with their family in the last few days.

RCMP have stated the deceased person located two kilometres away from the vehicle fire is not either of the missing men “but is believed to be a male that we are working to identify,” a Dease Lake RCMP spokesperson noted.

More: BBM
Kam McLeod is described as 6-foot-4, approximately 169 pounds with dark brown hair and facial hair and brown eyes. Bryer Schmegelsky is described as 6-foot-4, approximately 169 pounds with sandy brown hair. Another strange situation where the two people in the car are missing, another body is found 2km from their truck and the truck is burned. They were seen in the area where their truck was found at 3:15PM Thursday, and the truck was burning when found on Friday.

Another body that RCMP are unable to identify:

"RCMP have stated the deceased person located two kilometres away from the vehicle fire is not either of the missing men “but is believed to be a male that we are working to identify,” a Dease Lake RCMP spokesperson noted.
...

Investigators from both occurrences are sharing information, according to Dease Lake RCMP, who ask the public to continue to take any general safety precautions and remain vigilant at this time."

The woman highway worker said the man she saw in the middle of the highway arguing with the victims drove a grey vehicle.

From reading the article, it sounds like these teens are more likely victims of an unidentified killer. Their car was burned and they are missing.

Dease Lake RCMP are looking for Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, who were known to be driving the vehicle found on fire 50 kilometres south of Dease Lake and have not been in contact with their family in the last few days.

Like Chynna and Lucas, they were sleeping in their vehicle and traveling. They're all between the ages of 18 and 24. If it's the same person, he is slowly heading South.

The woman highway worker said the man she saw in the middle of the highway arguing with the victims drove a grey car. It's possible they could have changed vehicles, though.
True. Too many dead bodies, beards, and now missing teens for the mind not to get boggled....

Facial hair can be anything. Full beard, goatee, mustache alone, soul patch, etc.

Sounds like it. Maybe RCMP should stop insisting they're all unrelated. BTW, who is the mystery deceased male? Does he have a beard? Just asking...

Another story about the two young men. Not sure if they need a separate thread

RCMP seeking missing men after Dease Lake vehicle fire; body found
Hope you don't mind if I piggyback off your link. There is a bit of a warning from RCMP.

"Police are acknowledging there are growing community concerns about the ongoing homicide investigations in northern B.C., pointing out the Dease Lake incident occurred on July 19, and the double homicide involving a young Australian / American couple occurred between July 14-15, about 470 kilometres away.

At this time, investigators are sharing information and police would like to ensure awareness around both investigations. The RCMP are asking the public to continue to take any general safety precautions and remain vigilant at this time. They are also reminding travellers to share their plans with family and friends, establish check-in times, and notify someone if plans change."

Not at all. When I google their names, it looks like a multitude of stories about them have been released within the past hour.

Do we need a thread for them? What say you?

I think I had to read that article 3 times before I understood it.
