Killer ‘still on the loose’ with headstart
The lady witness saw a "bearded man outside a grey car" that evening/night at the crime scene.....The other dead man near Dease Lake was found outside of a "burning pick-up truck" according to this article...........I can find no other info on the latter death scene.....moo

Personally, I think it was road rage. If travelling at night or even in the day and a big rig is on the other side of the road and a van was partly out on the road, I certainly would be very annoyed. However, the victims did not deserve their fate regardless of the reasoning for their death.

That's where I'm going with it too, especially given the description of the man standing on the road and the appearance that there was some sort of an altercation. If he was there only to hurt them, the scene would be different.

The fact that the engine hood was down, the back window was broken, Fowler had no shoes, Deese had one shoe and the side doors were open, I do wonder if the man came back later at night and shot them. I wonder if they were sleeping when the back window was broken, they opened the side doors, and things went very wrong from there.

Deese was 5 meters farther away from Fowler, so maybe Fowler tried to deal with the suspect while Deese ran 16 - 17 feet when she was shot. Maybe they were both running after they saw the gun. Hard to say.

It's possible the man who argued with them isnt even the killer. But hopefully he is. But hard to think someone broke the window, shot them, moved the bodies then grabbed any non hidden IDs in broad daylight. Wish we knew what time the lady who saw the man arguing with them was.

If the man who was seen talking to them is innocent, he will come forward.

Possibly. Id certainly hesistate to, not wanting to be jumped on and made into the killer, especially if theres no DNA and i cant prove i didnt escalate it.

However given the timing he is a very good suspect.

I hope so, but let's be honest, being "the last person seen talking to people who were brutally murdered" puts a big target on your back. I'd hope they do the right thing and trust in the justice system anyway.

But one might assume they have a sizeable amount of drugs worth a good chunk of change they could be transporting.

So, judging by the location of the orange cones, the shooter was standing at the back of the van, shot thru the rear window and the cartridges ended right there on the ground?

Or was he standing at & shooting into the passenger side rear window and the casings dropped to his left?

I guess it probably depends on what type of gun was used. I guess I already knew that.....I’ve been here a while lol! Just thinking & typing!

Link to photos with the casings? Some are pretty easily distinguishable...

I think the killer knocked out the right rear window of the van (probably with firearms barrel), stood there, and shot them as they came out the side door of the van....moo

It would put a target on him, but he will be identified so if he's not involved his best hope is to come forward now. He would not be convicted just because RCMP want to close a case, there has to be evidence. As it stands, RCMP are using a sketch artist so they have an image to released. It's just a matter of time until he is identified.

In the crime scene van photo with LE tape shown, there are orange evidence markers at the rear of the van. No shell casings are in the photo.............moo

Fowler was a little ways from the van and Deese was 17 feet farther away from Fowler. The man who found them said that they were in identical positions - he found that unusual.

There were three evidence markers on the ground at the back of the van in one photo, but they could relate to shell casings, blood, or anything else that was dropped on the ground while the couple was parked on the highway.

Looked like a hippie....
With the old van & the hippie look couple on roadside, maybe perp thought they had drugs he could score? Not saying they did, just that a very unhinged person might have thought so. One possibility out of many. jmo.
I've thought about the hippie look as well. Especially their old van and Lucas's long hair. I'm not sure about the drug association, but I would say not everybody likes people they categorize as "hippies", particularly not some of the guys up north, who can be pretty contemptuous of the stereotype. Another detail about them that might bother someone, is that Chynna was very beautiful and was with a "hippie" instead of with a guy like him.

Just my instinct, but I agree with others that a rageaholic, who had long fantasized about "blowing someone away", is a possibility.

BBM Interesting, makes you wonder if where the van was found was where the couple spotted them the day before?

It sounds to me that there are two different incidents and probably two different locations: incident where locals stopped near hot springs to offer mechanical assistance; and incident where other witness allegedly saw possible road rage involving grey vehicle.

I'm just learning about 2nd witness report.

MOO

ETA: Take note the van photos posted do not depict a "grassy area" as described by the local couple that stopped to offer mechanical assistance.

This is the van Australian Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend were road tripping in before they were murdered on the side of a highway in Canada. Lucas bought it from a cattle ranch he was working on and did it up especially for their adventure.@9NewsAUS @TheTodayShow

More info on couple killed on Northern BC/Alaska Highway/Pictures of Ranch where Lucas worked and interview over phone with Ranch owner/more pictures of local area where blue van was found:

More info on couple killed on northern B.C. highway | Watch News Videos Online

The above report indicate that there is an active drug pipeline on the highway and speculated that perhaps the murdered couple saw something that they should not have seen.

For what it is worth, I enlarged the area around the markers. Some marks in the gravel...
