“The parties negotiated a non-disclosure agreement, which Leamon said was to balance the “rights as a father” with the protection of the ongoing police investigation, so she said there were no further details about the video that could be released.....

......The RCMP will not be discussing any private communications or discussions we have had with families connected with this file,” said media relations spokesperson Sgt. Janelle Shoihet in an email....

Oh wow! They actually let him view the entire thing, not just the 30 seconds.

Yeah this report must be coming out really soon. Also I guess that rules out that Bryer specifically excluded his dad from the video, which I never believed for a second.

I was thinking they’d be releasing the report too and then this (from the National Post article) caught my eye:
“No cause of death has been determined in Dyck’s case; the B.C. coroner’s service says the investigation is ongoing.“

Is this site acting funny for anyone else?

Yes, definitely. Very slow to load or not at all. Sorry about the double post earlier, I was unable to edit it.

That's just a perfect example of a reporter not wording things correctly. What they meant to say, I am sure, is that "No cause of death has been released yet."

Wait, what? How is that possible? Is it possible they meant "no cause of death has been released" and they misphrased it? Because during the press conference after Kam and Bryer's bodies were found, they said they weren't going to release Professor Dyck's cause of death because his family didn't want them to, which indicates they knew what it was.

It looks like Bryer's dad is getting some counseling support, so that's good, at least.

I am relieved to hear that resources have been made available to him. His lawyer seems to have his best interests in check too. To think society would abandon him just seemed too harsh. Faith in humanity for a win here!

Well, the concerns about that were based on that it happens all the time :( It sounds like his lawyer genuinely cares about what happens to him, and isn't just pretending for the sake of professionality, so that's good.

No, they updated the report ... he only saw the same 30 seconds as other family members.

Now we know that Bryer's other family members, not just one, did get to see the video, so the mother being the only next of kin was not the whole issue here.

The BC coroner's service is conducting the examination into the cause(s) of Dr. Dyck's death, and not the RCMP at this point.

Perhaps there are multiple possibilities, which would make the actual cause difficult to determine.

Looks like the National Post has edited their article to reflect that AS saw 30 seconds of the video and not the entire thing.
However it’s still showing:
“No cause of death has been determined in Dyck’s case; the B.C. coroner’s service says the investigation is ongoing.“
I wish there would be better focus on accurate reporting rather than being first to get the story out.

Yes, it seems like they were not happy that he did those interviews.

Interesting, so Alberta Press and CBC are saying Alan only saw the 30 seconds of the video that everyone else was shown but National Post is saying he saw the whole thing. Also, @NJSleuth91 that part towards the bottom of the National Post article caught my attention as well about Leonard. I mean which is it? They still haven't determined his cause of death (mind blown.) OR His cause of death has not yet been released. I've been enjoying the National Posts coverage of this whole thing but could this Tyler Dawson's reporting be that brazenly inaccurate? I'm unsure how many articles he's written on the story however.

According to the CBC, AS didn't see the whole video, just the 30 second portion talked about previously.

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5272080?__vfz=medium=sharebar&__twitter_impression=true

"She said police may release portions of the video to the public at a future date, at which point Schmegelsky would be able to talk about the contents.

She said she expects that a public inquiry into the case will occur in the future and that her client would participate."

!!!

Obviously she's not a police officer, but I assume she has a lot of experience with this topic, so that's interesting that she believes that.

The article was just updated to say that AS saw the same 30-seconds as the others, not the whole thing.
