Seeing the BC map posted above with the dates really has me wondering what the heck they were up to for the first week... it does look like they might have initially been planning to go to Whitehorse ...would that drive naturally take them until Monday? Did they (or one of them) need to work up the courage?? Victims are random to them (unless I've missed something?) so if they had a plan to head East why circle so far up that way in the first place??? And then what where they doing between Monday and Friday... from the looks of things Friday was the start of the 'panic' since they did a LOT of driving in the next 3 days... It just doesn't make sense that it was planned but doesn't make sense that it was spur of the moment either

Father of one suspect says he will go out "in a blaze of glory"

The family separated when Bryer was 5. He lived with his mom, met McLeod in elementary school, became "inseparable friends". He had some problems and moved in with his father at age 16 (briefly) and then in with his grandmother.

Father of suspect in 3 B.C. deaths expects son will go out in 'blaze of glory'
7/24/2019

Alan Schmegelsky said he expects his son will die in a confrontation with police.

“He’s on a suicide mission. He wants his pain to end,” he said, breaking down into tears. “Basically, he’s going to be dead today or tomorrow. I know that. Rest in peace, Bryer. I love you. I’m so sorry all this had to happen.”

Even if his son is caught, his life will be over, the father said.

“He wants his hurt to end. They’re going to go out in a blaze of glory. Trust me on this. That’s what they’re going to do.”

“He hasn’t been nurtured. He doesn’t have a driver’s licence. He never learned to ride a bike. He craved love and affection,” he said. “His influences haven’t been good. His influences have been YouTube and video games.”

He loved strategy and battle video games in particular, Schmegelsky said, and two years ago his son asked for an airsoft gun for Christmas. Schmegelsky bought it for him and the teen and his friends would “battle” each other in the woods, he said.

Schmegelsky said his son doesn’t own any real guns and doesn’t know how to drive.

Extra officers have been brought in for a search focused about 70 kilometres northwest of the town near Fox Lake Cree Nation, where Chief Walter Spence has said police would be patrolling.

So sad to hear the father's pain come out.

One interesting thing here is that the two friends met in elementary school. That makes me throw away any thoughts I had that the two would separate. I think they are both going to stay together until they are caught. Which should help LE find them as I think it is easier to find two than just one. I dont think they will split up.

They both will need each other's skills whatever few they have.

This is such a terrible situation and so avoidable if someone could have just worked with the boys before they got to this point. There is not much hope now for any good outcome for them but by golly the public safety of others is the number one concern right now and that is why they must be found and captured one way or another.

If you want comic relief, google: You Tube Blackfly Song
I've had that song stuck in my head since yesterdays mention of black flies ...little black flies, always the black flies...

Hypothermia won't happen for a few months they are having a heat wave. The weather goes to extremes summer really hot winter really cold

I know the area. Look up hypothermia. It doesn’t require cold weather, only weather that takes body temperature below 95°. Plus no food unless they have a fishing rod, bugs, etc. That scenario is not sustainable.

hypothermia can occur during summer as well with temperature change and no shelter

i'll give you an example, sweating or rain from a thunderstorm then a temp degree change as few as 5 degrees can cause hypothermia

I seen the picture. I cannot find it I've looked everywhere but in the picture was the blue van and it look like a picture of Kam near the blue van that was parked at the gas station.
I even recall the text saying " is this kam by The Blue Van in the parking lot?"
But damned if I can find that.
Because if that was Kams photo by the van I was wondering if they were stalking them over the weekend?
I'm still trying to find that photo or maybe Cops had it deleted.

It’s interesting the number of people who don’t know this.

Why do they think that it’s so important to find people who are lost in the woods as soon as possible? Which may in fact be the situation with these two.

Morning ( Melbourne, Aus )

Been trying to catch up, it seems no updates throughout the night.

Morning telly is doing live crosses with Canadian Police.

The awful thought of, what if they don’t find these two has crept into my thoughts today, if they have gone deep into the Forrest and vanished.
The possibility of them taking their own lives is very real.... what if they never get found.

I hope this is not the case.

Do we have a map depicting last sighting at petrol stop (Split Lake), and Fox Lake where burnt Rav4 located?

Alexis Daish‏Verified account @LexiDaish
Manitoba police are operating a checkpoint 24/7 between Gillam - where the teen fugitives were last seen - and Fox Lake where their car was found burnt out. They’re stopping every driver, checking inside cars and asking why they’re here.@9NewsAUS @TheTodayShow

I saw it. Better yet, look for yourself at the videos. Some are clipped. Others show the other customers.

A question that just occurred to me. If these guys are in the woods, do they even know that they are at significant risk of hypothermia?

Does anyone else find the quotes from the father a bit all over the place? I get that he’s this kid’s father and is likely trying to process a whole lot of really complex emotions and thoughts at the moment. But his opinions on his son have seemingly swung from one end of the pendulum to the other in a very, very short time.

When his son and friend were considered “missing” and possibly in danger, he was adamant that they were “good boys” on a simple road trip looking for a new adventure. Then he finds out his son likely committed 3 grisly murders, and suddenly he’s going on and on about what a messed-up life his son had and how he is the farthest thing from a normal kid. And it’s just weird to hear him say that he’s 100% sure that his son is going to commit suicide-by-cop, that he wants his pain to end, and that he will be dead by tomorrow for sure. The part where he pre-emptively tells him to Rest In Peace was especially creepy, in my opinion.

Unless he has had contact with his son in the last 72 hours and his son told him he was definitely killing himself, I just don’t know how a father can say “there’s no hope for him”. Not passing judgement, because everyone processes information and handles grief differently. Plus he does know his son better than just about anyone. Still...

I was just think if there were any campers or hunters along any of the nearby lakes or rivers, I'd be leery of having any cookouts as the smell of food wafting though the woods would get these 2 to your campsite or cabin in a hurry. As they'd likely be getting mighty hungry for real food by now. That could be a way to lure them tho smell of food cooking, they're like predators by now getting hungry and tired. Hopefully getting too weak to trudge through the swamps or bushes :). More easy to track and sneak up on too. JMO

Roughing it outdoors is not so bad when you have ALL the supplies you need. Like gallons of fresh water, fire starter, food to cook on an open fire, pots or pans to heat things over a fire, shelter like a tent, sleeping bags or blankets, bug spray, and on and on.

The less comforts you bring the less comfortable you will be. As soon as you run out of something important that you need then you can get miserable real fast. Especially if it starts to rain or get cold at night.

In learning about these two, I just do not see them lasting long AT ALL in those woods if that is where they went. I think it is much more likely they will try to break into an abandoned cabin or even an occupied home and try to let the heat die down on them. They will want all the normal comforts of life and they will not get that out in the woods. I doubt they would last more than 4 or 5 days in the woods before they would decide to pickup and try to find a place to break into. Which is why I think they will be eventually found in some kind of cabin, home, or other structure.

Like others have said, a lot of seasonal cabins usually are stocked with a few basic supplies like a few canned food items, maybe some gallons of water, etc.

Hearing that LE was searching that 600 room abandoned place tells me LE also thinks it is likely they will be looking for a structure or cabin or something along those lines to hide out in.

Whether they managed to drive away from Gillam or not yet is the big question right now for me. Or possibly in someone's place already near there.

Prayers for safety of the officers as they search cabins and homes. That is a very dangerous undertaking knowing they could be armed and inside.

Seems like only a few scenarios are possible
1. Someone mentioned the dark web .. Perhaps they were in contact with someone in the Gillam area that shared the same “interests” that stashed a vehicle for them to use when they got there .
Idk seems like they had a huge head start on LE .... if they carjacked someone we’d likely have another body already ... as we know they aren’t concerned about hiding bodies .
2.The wilderness is a possibility but even seasoned survivalists would find this place daunting . Unless they are holed up in a cabin , shack or 600 room building. Which also could’ve been arranged by a remote accomplice .
3. They hopped a freight train and are far away from there .

Ditching the Rav4 May have been a decoy . I hope not ... I hope LE knows more than they are saying and these guys are caught today !

Why, when the father thought that his son was just missing, would he say that he had serious psychological problems?

I don’t see anything odd about the difference in statements.

Those are the two possibilities - that they drove South from Dease Lake, or they backtracked North past the Liard Hot Spring crime scene and then headed East. Initial reports were that the suspects were parked facing South when seen with the Australian/USA tourists, but we know they drove North.

I've added the dates that we have for now

@otto -- report is that Rav4 was located burnt out on Monday night 7/22 at Fox Lake. What time were they at Split Lake area petrol stop?

This appears to be some distance from Split Lake, no?

I've looked at a few of the long News videos and one from Gray Hughes. But I can't find the image that I was looking for if you could narrow it down for me that would be awesome. Thank you for your reply

They had to drive from Port Alberni to catch the ferry. Then they had to catch the ferry. They went to Nanaimo or Schwartz Bay, assuming CTV has it right. They would have to line up and wait, for more than one sailing possibly, if they didn't reserve in the busy summer months. Then there's travelling time to the mainland. The ferry has to unload lots of cars, and traffic away from the terminal is congested.

Then there's the drive to the interior. All roads are busy in the summer. It's holiday trailer time. They're climbing steep grades....

I would be shocked if they made it to Whitehorse with their busy schedule of murder and mayhem.
