Here's a good video I found with an interview (from before the York Landing event) about this, and how tense the communities have been feeling: NEWS 1130 on Twitter

That is a great interview. It's heartbreaking the amount of stress and fear this manhunt must be putting on the communities. Not just the disruption of daily life, I'm sure there are questions, rumors, and possibly distrust, that neighbors are having to deal with. It has got to be particularly hard for families with children, elderly persons who may be living alone, etc. (edit, spelling)

might be pedantic quibbling but Im not sure I agree with the characterization, and thats not actually what the article said

A manitoba FN assembly asked bear clan to "provide support and services for residents in three smaller communities"
""We are very concerned for the safety of the people in our northern communities,""
"While RCMP officers conduct door-to-door checks on residents in gilliam, patrol group members will be splitting into pairs to check in on people living in Fox Lake Cree Nation, York Factory First Nation and War Lake First Nation."
"AMC said it approached Bear Clan – an Indigenous-led, community-based, crime-prevention group – to send teams into communities where tensions were high"
"The community-based solution is intended to fill a gap in police coverage"

I mean if we can stop beating around the bush for a second it was basically "Hey can you guys come up here and do cop stuff for a bit, cuz if its got "first nation" in the name then actual cops cant be bothered"

Cant say they were wrong as it was bear clan who spotted the suspects, in a FN town rcmp didnt bother with

Edit: if I seem a little defensive or snippy its cuz its 3am and racist conspiracy theories have a way of making you extra tired (dont mean you afitzy)

@sleuth3000. Took a break and came back to this convo that I don't understand.

I earlier posted the original Bear Clan article which had the word 'ambassadors' in the title. I am not reposting that picture out of respect to the individuals doing very hard work.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/mani...loyed-gillam-manitoba-first-nations-1.5227719

But I saw 2 articles that describes the role as 'ambassador'. It seems like this job is to patrol the area and alert RCMP of any issues as there is no police force in the area. So far as how things played out tonight at the garbage dump it appears RCMP was alerted by Bear Clan and unfortunately the suspect/s escaped.

This is another article that explains why the Bear Clan was invited in to patrol.

Canada murders: York Landing residents told to stay indoors during police manhunt for suspects - as it happened

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs earlier this evening on their official twitter showed the 3 individuals from Bear Clan that were involved at York Landing today.

Yeah I can't find it so I wasn't sure if I was imagining things but I'm pretty positive I wasn't. It's ironic Now isn't it that someone had supposedly spotted them on the ferry and now they are on the other side of the big Split Lake.. Interesting...

It does make you wonder if they befriended someone that drove that from Gillian/Fox Lake and/or the Rav4 burn site back to Split Lake where they took the ferry to York Landing. I've also wondered if they traveled on the ferry separately. (There's both a morning and afternoon ferry to York Landing from Split Lake). MOO

Hate to be a pessimist, but I think they are long gone again or the sighting wasn’t of them and they are in fact dead. And, realistically it could have been some other fugitives :)

So in essence they are providing a type of security as I originally stated and acting as a go between the People and the RCMP.

I don’t think there’s anywhere for them to go.

That sighting seems credible, both based on the account provided, and the mobilization of law enforcement.

They would have been able to set up a perimeter around them, and now it’s a matter of finding them, or flushing them out.

It’s dark, the weather is bad, and it’s likely a matter of waiting for daylight. I don’t take the lack of an arrest or another sighting, to mean anything right now.

What I’m saying is, I’m incredibly optimistic here. I think this ends today.

Yeah they backtrack. But they also backtracked in the young couples suspected murder situation as well.
If they murdered the young couple they stayed in the area for up to four days and didn't flee. And then LD was found dead and the boys have been charged with that. And they took off across Canada at a fast rate to Manitoba . When in Gillam they backtrack again and stayed in the area. There's definitely big pieces of this puzzle that the public doesn't know.

@afitzy You dont seem to understand what I was trying to say, but its not super germane. Just disagreeing they were there "to assist rcmp" but just an offhand comment wasnt trying to continue discussion down this line really.

Being super real, think Im just kinda defensive about BC at the moment cuz that guy earlier was being kinda gross and racist slinging around crazy accusations

@Tarika I wouldnt say that. Only a handful of cops in york, its dark, weather hampering air search.
Wouldnt be suprised if they decided to just set up a perimeter and wait till morning and reinforcements before really trying anything

But RCMP and Leroy Constant (Chief there) have both said efforts were still underway to locate 2 suspects.

BOTH have emphasized still looking for 2.

If one were dead/in custody they would certainly not still be emphasizing that as it greatly changes what people in the community are looking for if they see something suspicious.

RCMP Manitoba on Twitter

Leroy Constant
I think if the chief and the police are saying they have not found or shot and killed either of them young guys then that would be true. Because if we find out tomorrow or ..later... that they have the boys and just caught them .later.. then the cops would be lying and that would not go over well with the public. So while they don't tell us stuff they're certainly not going to outright lie.

It's just not the bushwhacking that they'd have to do.... it's swampy. It's deadly. They can barely do it at night time I just can't see how they could do it at night time. So they have to move during the day through all that swamp and thickets and brush and animals and bugs and so I'm going to probably say no. Probably took the road back caught a ride on the ferry. Could have walked the road in the nighttime I doubt there's a whole lot of traffic driving that road in the middle of the night.
But definitely don't see them bushwhacking through all that swamp and Scag and bugs and critters and thickets. Not to mention the Predators that hunt at night.

I have to agree with you.

York Landing is accessible year round by air, and summer by M.V. Joe Keeper Ferry Service.
The only road access is "winter road" (i.e., ice road).

I believe that will be fresh water treatment. “Water Treatment Plant” is the standard terminology for these (https://www.awwa.org/portals/0/files/publications/documents/toc/watertreatmentplantdesign5etoc.pdf) and the building looks right based on design drawings and pictures of plants I’m aware of using sand filter media for drinking water treatment. It’s pretty hard to tell, but my guess is it’s the brown roof at bottom center in this satellite view:

These images are the clearest I've seen and do match up with the mysterious video that was posted earlier this evening IMO.

What I am trying to articulate in my sleep deprived state is basically act like Ambassadors...relate what the People of the Rez are saying back to RCMP as they will probably communicate more info etc to the Clan than the RCs.

Yes, they are a non violent organization and so they patrol, observe and report.

if anyone can find that video again (taken down from anywhere ive checked) should post it.
I know I know
but Im actually just trying to get a closer look at york landing. Ive already told myself the videographer was just excited/confused

I’d imagine it would be easier for aircraft to locate them via the night camera technology rather than during the day?

These guys can’t be far from the last sighting.

What time is sunrise in this part of the world?

The videographer was a Native female I heard her talking as she was videoing, she sounded really excited and did say she heard gunshots.

Dont think theyd really have to 'bushwhack' though. Its no trail but its kept somewhat clear for access and stuff. Not sure about the scrag either but idk, maybe they picked a rise or dry spot (do dry spots exist up there right now lol) for the pylons.

Maybe Im just looking for the "fun" answer because "they did something totally un-interesting and just happened by luck to not be seen" seems anti-climatic after more than a week of this lol

Also its just, super direct so maybe subconsciously thats making me think it would be easier than it would be. tried to find some pics of the lines in hat area to get some idea but not much luck

I'm sleep deprived too and don't get the issue other than trolls seems to be involved. But based on what I've read the idea of the Bear Clan is fantastic and is a creative solution to a resource issue. But we did see how it played out in practice. Bear Clan did what it was supposed to do (ID a situation and not engage and report to RCMP so far as I can understand). The incident was reported and RCMP took 20 min to respond.

One of the quotes from the area where the 2 suspects were last seen running away from the garbage dump and supposedly towards the water treatment lagoon.
"The area is very dense with forest, he said. "It could be 20 yards [18 metres] in the woods – you wouldn't be able to see them."
