Nowhere in my response did I say that the reason behind the gunfire should be more important than the purpose of the police operation.

That being said, HOW would gunfire be used to communicate? If I was operating on the team, is that someone saying 'I'm here'? Is it an ND? Or is it a member of my team coming under contact? Gunfire is not used to communicate because it should only mean one thing - that a threat has been engaged with lethal force. Full stop.

For an example, three shots in a row is a sign of distress: Signaling for Help | MI | Hunter Ed.com™

REALLY??? This is the first I’ve heard that constables of any type stopped these two... I heard they were asking a gas attendant about the community being dry but that’s it. Did I miss something or has this been around for a while?

I believe we're just hearing of this one today. Two sightings in the area prior to the burning of the car were cited by the RCMP, however only the gas station attendant one was described before now. They only stopped them because it's a checkpoint for a dry area, they weren't known to be wanted at the time I think?

Sniped from CBC.ca article updated 25 mins ago.

“Constables with Tataskweyak Cree Nation, also known as Split Lake, stopped the suspects in their vehicle at a gas bar last Monday as they drove through the community, before the vehicle was found burned near Gillam, said band councillor Machan Meckoway.

Split Lake is a dry community and the constables were checking for any alcohol, and didn't know who the men were at the time, he said.

"They did see maps and maps and camping gear within that vehicle that were driving," he said.”

So, they are more prepared than we think. And they knew where they were going. Hmmm....
back to thinking they are not as twitty as I am currently thinking. Maybe they were not looking for food at the dump but for other things.

Was hoping to wake up to see that they had been captured. But hopefully, it happens today with no more bloodshed.

At first I figured they are trapped on York Landing since I doubt they'd risk a ferry right now, and I'm sure those are being monitored. But someone mentioned they could have walked to York Landing through the bush, so I guess walking out is an option? Hopefully they have not gotten far.

An excerpt from the above regarding the stop at the gas bar in Split Lake on July 22 (RSBM & RBBM):

Confirmation that they had maps and camping equipment in the RAV4.

MOO
Good one! Never knew that tidbit of info.

So sorry to hear of this.. I think of Canada as a lot of beautiful wild life and a lot of friendly people.... All it takes is a couple Punks from the USA, (which I belong) to ruin several family members and friends lives because of their selfish actions. These families are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they bring them in alive so we can see that they're punished good and proper.

Possible to be making their way to Ilford and Kelsey.

Kelsey would make more sense IMO because then there are more options for future 'legs' of their trip.

That is an extraordinary sighting! So local First Nation constables stopped them, to check for alcohol, but didn't yet know they were wanted fugitives.

That will explain why they decided to burn the RAV4.

They thought that RCMP will be notified soon and there will be a road block if they drove back through Split Lake.

“Split Lake is a dry community and the constables were checking for any alcohol, and didn't know who the men were at the time, he said.

"They did see maps and maps and camping gear within that vehicle that were driving," he said...”
RCMP broaden search for teens wanted in B.C. killings to York Landing, Man.

That’s an interesting bit of information. Not sure how it fits with the gas station clerk at Split Lake who said they bought $20 worth of gas and asked about buying alcohol but it likely aroused suspicion. I don’t imagine Split Lake has many white guys stopping in their First Nations community inquiring about alcohol, not realizing its a dry reserve.

They are Canadian - from Port Alberni.

Could they have been looking for alcohol to aid in the burning of the vehicle?

I meant I noticed the hydro lines when I was already looking at the map per someone request about the winter roads.
I'm not suggesting they used the winter roads for any real period of time. In addition to them being nigh impassable, they dont go anywhere. One from york goes to ilford then, no where. Could have used a combo of roads/trails, traintracks, and hydro lines but that seems even less likely
Found a few spots with decent zoom. Likely wet but I think doable. Definitely looks way clearer than anything around it by alot.

That said I'm leaning ferry now I think lol

Your hydro corridor maps are very helpful. They could probably have done that over a whole week. We will know in the future.

In that article about the German tourists, there is a selfie of wading in chest deep water. They also mention having icy wet feet.

And Port Alberni is on beautiful, forested Vancouver Island. Who woulda' thunk?

The punks that did this are from Canada, not the USA.

I was surprised to read about any part of Canada where ‘everyone has a gun’! It’s mostly OT anyway .... but at the outset of this crime spree, I had the assumption that the POIs likely didn’t have access to many guns. A Canadian community where ‘everyone has a gun’ therefore turned my head.

Assuming the potential sighting is confirmed to be them - it was stated that K & B didn't have any bags with them. Do you think they had a camp set up somewhere, or have been travelling with nothing?

Besides scraps of food maybe they were searching for bags of discarded clothes. After wearing the same clothes and socks for days they might be getting pretty rank although one poster said the bugs weren’t as bad if you didn’t shower. I wonder if they are wearing leather boots or just lightweight running shoes. I wonder if they are still "having fun" or are remorseful at all.

Was the plan to be on the run for years?

Manitoba RCMP press release actually requested that their officer's locations should not be posted online.

This is certainly the first official report I've read of this sighting confirmation.
