I hadn't thought about DNA, just I really thought he look good for her murder as it was right on the Trenton base housing. Yes, the mother was quoted as being disappointed. I couldn't image not knowing.

I, too, was so sure that RW would be charged for this one and am very surprised that he's been ruled out. Hazel is right; only DNA could have eliminated him so quickly, which means that his must already have been on file. What an incredibly awesome tool DNA profiling is - for both LE and the innocent.

I still think LE will find priors for this man, if not murders, than other sexual assaults.

Guys, just to let you know, she was found on what is PART OF the golf course.

Thanks, "PART OF" the golf course...do you know if there is a pond or more particularly if she was found in water?

I always hate the media because they never quite get it right.

Nina Courtepatte of Edmonton was murdered on a golf course. Her body was discovered on a fairway by the owner of that golf course, who initially thought he saw a tarp.

Yes, he wasn't even in the area when KM's murder occurred- and being a military brat I know that if the men aren't serving in a certain CFB, they do not generally visit others.
Her poor family, this is just awful. They thought they were so close to a closure.

I don't believe there was a pond, no. Sporadic brush/trees with a slight ditch alongside the road. She was not concealed.

Snipped by me

A finding of guilt on two first-degree murder charges would not bring a 50-year sentence. Here in Canada, we have concurrent, not consecutive sentencing. So, the maximum sentence if RW is found guilty of all of the charges against him, would be life in prison without eligibility for parole for 25 years.

I didn't know THAT, who make up that crazy law lol? I had to read up on that. But he could & surely will be declared a dangerous offender & could be held indefinitely is this correct?

Our law can be ridiculous. If this guy gets out, I doubt it will be any time soon. I mean not only did he make the forces reevaluate their members, but it's a huge embarrassment to them also. If he thought he outsmarted the LE, then that will be taken into offense and he will have a rough go with things.. .HOPEFULLY.

That's certainly a possibility, but it will depend on the outcome of his trial and will be at the discretion of the courts.

Clever criminals go for the bulk discount. Still, life is life. Eligibility for parole does not equal parole. However, that being said, there are many high profile cases where parole is granted. Or, in one case I know of, the criminal was released before serving his full life sentence for first-degree murder. He was dying of cancer, and wanted to spend his remaining time with his family. Nine years later, he is out and alive and well. That's the Faint Hope Clause for you.

I can't decide if he was lazy or cocky; perhaps both.

Nicely said. After having discussed with military friends about him, the most common response was that he kept to himself, was not that typical "warm" personality, but he was extremely intelligent and did his job. A sort of busy body.

Cocky and Lazy make sense- lazy for not trying to cover things up, cocky for thinking he could just leave things out in the open because of his rank.

Several reasons
A) Tweed is a good 35-40 mins away from Belleville, yes it is on the same highway, but nonetheless away from her residence. No one ventures on the golf courses in the winter here, no one walks on them, and not many sleds go on them because they are not allowed and there is really not enough snow in this area.

B) All the "searchers" were purposely led in the wrong direction, and again, the search was not conducted in Tweed, moreso closer to Belleville where Jessica resided, which is 35-40 minutes away. There is a lot of area between where she lived and Tweed, so they didn't even search that far yet.

My guess is he confessed still.

who purposely led them in the wrong direction and why? is this your opinion or do you have a source?

The military was involved in a helicopter and ground search. Is this what the OP is referring to?

The other way he could have been ruled out would be if he had been physically somewhere else at the time and there was a record of it. DNA testing takes time, it wouldn't have eliminated him that quickly.
