Williams admits to raping her in her home and then 'I took her to the car and I took her to Tweed,' he says. After spending the day in Tweed, he adds, 'And I hit her as we were walking. The colonels' facade evaporates:

Police had difficulty find Jessica's body and Williams was asked for further help and he agreed to show them.

At 3:47 am, they arrive at Cary Rd and Williams pointed out her body, behind a rock, clothed and wrapped in towels and duct tape.

Throughout all of this, police were combing through his residences, hauling scads of incriminating evidence -- including bags and boxes of stolen lingerie and other trophies from his victims and the massive photographic and video record of his attacks.

From here on in, the jig is up.

Like the two women he kidnapped and killed, there would be nothing Williams would be able to do to escape his fate.

The colonel had gone; the killer is here.

Amber Hildebrandt reports: "Police ask why Williams believes these incidents happened. He says he doesn't know. The officer asks why Williams killed Marie France Comeau. After a pause Williams says he thought he would be recognized if she went to police. 'Because she knew I was taking pictures. So because of the two stories in Tweed, it would've been fairly ... it would've been quite obvious,' he says."

He says he killed her because she knew he was taking pictures, and the police would connect the photos to the Tweed sex assaults.

When you're doing these things, what are your feelings? How did you feel with Jessica?

"She's a very nice girl."

"Have you spent much time thinking about that?"

Pause

"I didn't know any of them," he says of his four victims.

"I'm pretty sure the answers don't matter."

Why do you think these things happen? "I don't know."

Williams says that any other attacks involving photography in the assaults would "draw a straight".

Q: why did you kill Marie-France?

A: I was pretty sure she was serving military. It would be difficult for investigators to ignore that connection.

Q: how did you see Jessica?

A: I'm just always keep my eyes open.

This just doesn't make sense to me. Why then didn't he kill the second assault victim. Am I missing something??? I've always suspected that Comeau recognized him but that didn't come out yesterday, did it?

Aha! My question earlier this week is answered. Previous reports had them finding JL's body at 1:33 (IIRC). There were no mentions of when and how LE and RW left Ottawa for Tweed. So, it seems he told them the location at approximately 1:30, they then drove to Tweed, where he physically showed them at 3:47 a.m.. Much clearer now.

(Side note: This also contradicts earlier rumours here that (a) JL's remains were found on a golf course, (b) that a local led LE to her, and that (c) she was found shortly after midnight. Indicative of how unreliable rumours can be.)

CBC:
Amber Hildebrandt reports: "The officer directs the interview back to Jessica Lloyd. Williams tells him he first saw Lloyd in her basement through an open window. He tells them he went back on a Thursday night to take a look inside her home. He realized she lived alone. He left the home when she returned and re-entered later. He describes her rape and murder to Smyth."

11:50 TorontoStar: Dan Robson reports:
One of the lawyers who represented schoolgirl killer Paul Bernardo 15 years ago believes Russ Williams made a deal with the Crown to plead guilty in exchange for not being declared a dangerous offender. The Crown clearly plans to have this wrapped by Thursday, possibly Friday, John Rosen says. A dangerous offender application could take months. They won't bother, he says, because the two murder charges trump the dangerous offender status. It's a 25 year sentence for Williams either way, and he's likely never getting parole after that, Rosen says. He made it clear he's speaking as an expert observer and has no inside information.
