''In June 2025, Peel police said they were contacted by Aini’s family members in Afghanistan, who they said had been unable to reach her for an “extended period.” Aini was listed as a missing person by police that month.

It’s unclear what evidence caused the missing person investigation to evolve into a homicide investigation. Police have not released a suspect description.

“Investigators are asking anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area of her residence between June 2022 and September 2022, who has not yet spoken with police, or who has information about Aini or her family, to come forward,” police said in a news release.''

“There’s been no signs of life since June of 2022,” Det. Kevin Robbie told CP24 on Monday.
Robbie wouldn’t say what caused police to update its missing person investigation to a homicide investigation, but said they have identified a suspect.
“We do have a suspect. At this point, I’m not going to divulge who it is,” he said. The suspect has not been arrested.
Robbie said Aini worked in Afghani clothing stores prior to her disappearance.''
