Ornge initially told CTV News Kitchener that there were 10 people inside the residence at the time, though it is unclear whether there are any additional injuries.
I didn’t hear it but I can see the smoke. I’m downtown though.
I have heard a doggo passed away as well. As well I’ve heard that it wasn’t 10 people but a elderly couple. Jmo.
Both victims in the explosion were found in the backyard area of the home amid the rubble.
While there were initially reports that there may have been additional people inside the home; officials now say that they believe they have everyone accounted for.
The cause of the explosion, meanwhile, remains unclear.
There were videos of the elderly lady screaming and the dog. As well as the elderly man. Most media has taken down. I’m glad I didn’t see it. A lot of my social media friends saw and are traumatized by it.
I wonder what happened. Some rumours are renovations where being done but that hasn’t been confirmed. I feel so sad for everyone.
"Edra Haan, who worked at Sun Life Financial, died at her Sprucedale Crescent home after it was levelled in a deafening explosion on Wednesday morning.
In a statement, Sun Life said, "We are deeply saddened to learn from family about the sudden passing of Edra Haan and the critical injuries sustained to her husband, Udo Haan, who remains in hospital. As valued members of the Sun Life team, our heartfelt condolences and thoughts go out to their families, friends and colleagues."
Udo Haan was critically injured in the blast.
Edra's brother Al Pinheiro said the family is devastated by the loss of Edra, who was a giving and selfless wife and mother of two adult children.
"She was my parents' caregiver and was their lifeline. As a sister, she was somebody I looked up to. Someone who put her family ahead of herself," said Pinheiro."
JUST IN: Waterloo Regional Police say the death of Edra Haan, found at the site of a house explosion in Kitchener on Wednesday morning, has been deemed a homicide by the coroner.
My guess is that based on the quick declaration of homicide and the fact that the autopsy was emphasized at that press conference, that she was dead prior to the explosion. Just speculation.
Edra Haan, 58, was killed and her husband was critically injured when an explosion levelled their home on Sprucedale Crescent in Kitchener on Aug. 22." "The suspect is facing one count of first-degree murder, one count of arson- disregard for human life, and two counts of arson-damage to property.
