A 2016 Ford F150 used by a man accused by Saugeen Shores Police of impersonating a police officerHandout / Saugeen Shores Police Service

''Police in southwestern Ontario have a man in custody they allege used a fake cop car to pull over motorists.

On Tuesday, officers in Saugeen Shores, near Owen Sound, pulled over a black 2016 Ford F-150 outfitted with police-style emergency lights.

The truck, Saugeen Shores Police Sgt. Andy Evans says, had red and blue strobe lights installed on a roof-mounted light bar, as well as embedded in the front grill, on the truck’s upper window and on the rear of the vehicle.
A police radio, as well as a microphone and speaker, were also installed inside the truck.

Evans says the suspect, a 38-year-old male from Wingham, is believed to have used the truck to perform several false vehicle stops across southwestern Ontario''.

''Anybody who believes they were stopped by this truck — which also has factory-stock red ‘FX4’ decals on the rear bed — is asked to call Saugeen Shores Police at 519-832-2500 or Crime Stoppers.''

This is interesting. The article and sketch dotr provided is for Wellington County.

The one below was issued by Essex County OPP and incident was April 23, on Naylor Side Road near the intersection of North Talbot Road

OPP release sketch of man accused of impersonating officer

Almost identical but not the same. Seems like the sketches have come from two different witnesses.

this article has the two composites side-by-side and it appears the sketches are of suspects from two different counties
maybe it's the same guy using different vehicles in different counties?

''People in southwestern Ontario are posing as officers and making fake vehicle stops, police say. Now, the real police are releasing sketches of two suspects and say those concerned about an officer's legitimacy should ask for badge numbers and can even call 911 to verify an officer's identity''

''An American expert in police impersonation says similar incidents have occurred in her area in recent weeks. Local media in Denver reported at least six incidents of police impersonation in the last two weeks of March.

Police impersonation is a crime of opportunity, says Mary Dodge, who researches crime at the University of Colorado in Denver. During quarantine, she says, criminals may think authorities are tied up with other issues and are more likely to let slide smaller offences such as police impersonation.''
