Found Deceased Canada - Owen Rooney, 24, Grand Forks, BC, 14 Aug 2010

No, your not wrong Billy (how anyone or yourself could ever think your Silly is beyond me!), it is a punching bag.

Yes, I find it hard to believe that she's never been in that area before. She lived in Grand Prairie but is now in Edmonton supposedly.

Was that a pic of her at Whistler?

If you are referring to the blonde girl at 3:44 in the above video, I don't know for sure if it's Owen's ex, but whoever it is, the pic was probably taken at Big White. If it IS her however, then she has at least been to Kelowna (which makes sense if they were to be having a relationship ... they had to see each other somehow, somewhere, huh?)

It certainly looks like her. If you look on her fb wall, she has her photos readily accessible, and there are a number of photos of her there - it looks like her to me.

It's interesting that Ma Rooney in the Fifth Estate video wasn't calling her his ex-gf, she kept speaking of her as his gf.

The ex-gf supposedly grew up in Grand Prairie. I wonder when she moved to Edmonton, and why - it's obviously only a recent move. I wonder whether the move to Edmonton might have been to escape someone she might fear in Grand Prairie.

Anyone know who the 2 men in Christina Lakes were that beat Owen up? Or, the street name in Christina Lakes where he was beaten up? It was house number 55 ??? according to the Fifth Estate video.

  • #264
It appears that Owen went to the house in Christina Lake in search of drugs! He actually had physically removed the flyscreen of one of the windows in an attempt to break in. He believed his gf/ex-gf was in the house.

Owen went to the said house in "... Christina Lake and looked over the fence and asked if “there was a party” and “did they have any drugs”? He was told to leave and that he was not welcome. He was later found by the residents on the front lawn/driveway and once again saying he was “looking for Dawn” and "he had to get in the house". He was again, asked to leave. He then was discovered, having returned to the residence, taking a screen off a window. The two suspects confronted him and a fight ensued."

I now think there are 2 likely scenarios with Owen:-

1) He is dead - unlikely I suspect

2) Owen is off his head somewhere, hopelessly addicted to drugs and unable to face his friends and family as he is ashamed of his condition. Also with some hard drugs like heroin, even if he'd heard about the search for him, he simply would not care as that is the effect that drugs like heroin typically have on a person.

Let's not forget that the above account would have been provided by the people who assaulted Owen. I'm taking that with a grain of salt.

Couple of things I still wouldn't rule out ... Sean has a FB connection to a CT who has an Abelseth as a FB friend, and one of Owen's relatives on FB seems to have some pretty hefty international biker connections.

  • #268
And for those that don't know, the Abelseth's seem to be a key Moonie family.

Good point though SillyBilly re that is Owen's attackers description of events. However, I tend to believe it as this is reportedly what himself told police re that incident:-

"On August 13th Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a complaint of a suspicious occurrence and a person acting suspiciously in the Christina Lake area. Grand Forks Detachment members attended and located Mr. Owen ROONEY.

Mr. ROONEY appeared to have been injured in a fight and he confirmed that this was the case. He declined any police investigation into the matter saying it was his fault and he wanted to apologize to the people involved. Mr. ROONEY was at that time offered a ride to the Hospital which he declined asking instead to be taken to the bus depot in Grand Forks. "

Although I hope to God that Owen didn't mean that he wanted to apologize to the people who bashed him in person. Presumably he was just making an apology to the policeman, to then pass on that message to them.

Is there a Shaman in Christina Lake? If so, does anyone have their contact details (Name, address, etc.).

What is the popular view of a Shaman and what they do in Canada? Do they use illegal drugs in their work with people?

If there is a Shaman in Christina Lake, what are they well known for being able to do?

The body of the man who was reported missing over two months ago was found in the Christina Lake area on Friday.

RCMP have identified the man as 49-year-old Shawn McDonald.

Police received a report at 1:36 in the afternoon on Friday from a resident of Christina Lake, who had been gold panni

“He came across items of clothing, crawled down an embankment, then located a body,” local RCMP staff sergeant Jim Harrison says.

“Subsequently a coroner was called and the Christina Lake Fire Dept. assisted RCMP in extricating the body from the snow.”

The body was buried and frozen in the snow

“At this point, we believe he died of hypothermia but the postmortem

examination will have to confirm that,” Harrison says. “It looks like he probably fell down the embankment and died of hypothermia.”

I can't rid the image of him frantically doing whatever he can to get to that house to see his gf/ex-gf (or get drugs/both) and that's why she has kept quiet.. i really feel she is involved with those guys in some way; there could be a drug connection and that's why the facts are sketchy. Drugs can make a person act all kinds if crazy and, 'paranoid' for good reason or not. Obviously, so can a brain injury...drugs also make a person secretive and protective..
I believe Dawn has used/uses these two screen names: "coolblonde25ca" and "nordicblonde2006" http://www.peekyou.com/dawn_larson/52000443)
I don't know, I have trouble accepting that two guys had to beat up Owen that bad to get him off their property. They could have called the cops but they didn't.. why? Who told him what house to go to? If Dawn was the last one to text him and the last known contact Owen had with a person that we know of and next he goes missing.. maybe he is on his way to find her again? Maybe he thinks she is in trouble and he could be high and disorientated and set off without thinking straight and grabbing his things.. could these guys or Dawn have picked him up after he texted? Or like I posted earlier, could he have been tricked into thinking she was picking him up in order to be silenced by those guys?
I am nervous that he just took off after a text was his last straw..that would be a reason not to grab his phone as what's the point if he wont be around to use it... :-(

Why is the gf/ex gf being so uncooperative? The family seem like great people whom addressed those issues about Dawn so gracefully... that was quite remarkable; I can only imagine the fuatration they must be feeling knowing potentially vital information is being withheld! Ughhh...

Just picking some things apart here ...

In the video that shows the house in Christina Lake (starting approx 8:18 in the video), can anyone else see a fence on the property? Reason I ask is, the following article (affiliated with Metro Vancouver Crimestoppers?):

http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca&source=www.google.ca

states:

At this time it appears that on the evening of Aug. 12th Owen ROONEY appeared at 55 Franson Rd., Christina Lake and looked over the fence and asked if “there was a party” and “did they have any drugs”? He was told to leave and that he was not welcome.

I also believe it should have read the evening of Aug 13.

He was later found by the residents on the front lawn/driveway and once again saying he was “looking for Dawn” and "he had to get in the house". He was again, asked to leave. He then was discovered, having returned to the residence, taking a screen off a window. The two suspects confronted him and a fight ensued. ROONEY received injuries to his face and head in this altercation.

Once again saying he was "looking for Dawn" ??? There was no indication that he said this before. His prior statement was supposedly with respect to a party and drugs, not Dawn.

Yes, I noticed that too SB. I think the first account was from the people that beat Owen up, asking if "there was a party" and whether they had any drugs he could buy.

The second account was the one Owen gave to the LE. Now being on a visa, and knowing buying drugs is illegal, he would have been nuts to tell the LE he was trying to buy drugs off the occupants of that house.

Owen then went on to admit to the LE that he'd done the wrong thing by the people at number 55. I don't see these two statements from the people that beat Owen up or Owen's statement to the LE as cancelling each other out, I just think all parties were protecting themselves.

At 8.22 on the Fifth Estate video if you stop it there, when you look at the house from the road, on the left hand side of the video there is a very tall brown painted high fence. Had Owen been to this property instead? Would this house be most likely numbered as 53 or 57? or 56 or 54? I note that if this was the property he peered over the fence at, it might have meant that Owen had gone to the Blue Mountain Lodge, at the end of Franson Road and just happened to wander in when he heard the sounds of a party coming from the place. He'd been partying for days at Shambhala, was probably still in party mode, and definitely had been living the partying lifestyle whilst in Canada.

In the Fifth Estate video SB I can see there is a whitish coloured property on the right hand side, behind and to the right of the carport at number 55, but I can see no fence there at all, so I'd suggest that Owen approached via the fence on the other side.

I wonder if the RCMP interviewed the people at the Caravan Park at all.

My questions are, were the people who were living at 55 or in fact 56 Franson Road known to Owen before he got beaten up? Did any of the people from those properties go to Shambhala? Could one of these people have given Owen a lift?

... I believe Dawn has used/uses these two screen names: ...

According to the pics and information contained, they are not the same person.

... At 8.22 on the Fifth Estate video if you stop it there, when you look at the house from the road, on the left hand side of the video there is a very tall brown painted high fence ...

From what we can see in the video, that tall fence on the adjacent property comes up to the eave of the garage. Not many peeps tall enough to lean over that fence ... unless it steps down a few feet going toward the back property line and a person was in their backyard.

While they may exist and just aren't visible in the video, I can't see any screens on the windows.

Surely that isn't the Playboy Bunny I see on the "55" Franson sign?

  • #276
By stopping the video at 8.30 as the camera is coming in to the windows on a closeup, the left hand window has a screen on it, as that is the openable window - the right hand screen doesn't open, so it doesn't have a screen on it.

It is either a bunny or a deer there - amazing that you spotted it, I couldn't see it until that final shot of the camera zeroing in on the house up the driveway. Now that is interesting as I found a Myspace website when I googled "Sham + Christina Lake" for a woman or group of women. Owen was supposedly saying he was looking for "Sham" (whether that was a person or referring to Shambhala is unknown, but it was thought he was referring to a person).

http://www.myspace.com/pbbunnycandi

That website may have nothing to do with it, but I remembered the reference to pb bunnies in it, noted it was in Christina Lake and she spoke of Sham, but probably in the sense of sham friends, as opposed to fake friends. Maybe someone else can see if there are any links there.

Earlier on in the thread, it was mentioned that OR's tattoo would probably not be visible in the colder months due to coverage with warm clothing, but soon (hopefully) t-shirts and shorts will make him easier to spot.

You know I've been pondering the ex/ex-gf today and wondering why she hasn't spoken up. And then I was thinking ... you know this has been a rather high profile case in the press in Canada, and I'd imagine she'd be around Owen's age (does anyone know?). But let's say she is around his age, and then if the press start reporting that she's involved in some way, that Owen got bashed up as he was searching for her. I guess if she was there she'd be involved and it would be some sort of cover-up. But, then I got to thinking ... what if she wasn't there, then she'd be feeling utterly terrible that Owen went searching for her, got bashed up in some way because Owen was under the impression she was there (was this real? or some sort of psychotic delusion as he'd been having?). But then I got to think about the media ... I'm a hell of a lot older than her and the media scare me. So I wonder whether she might feel totally freaked out, scared of the media, not needing the stress. The media do have a way of hounding and hounding and hounding people. It's interesting the RCMP in media releases say she's not involved - would they be likely to say that if she was? I certainly haven't heard the media make any statements that the men at 55 who bashed Owen up weren't involved in Owen's disappearance. I guess I'm brainstorming here. I wish the RCMP would say more.

What I do not understand is why the RCMP can't just subpoena the phone records and content of the sms's. Is that to do with Canadian law? I know it's easy as pie to get it done in Australia. Can anyone explain the problem to me? In Australia if someone couldn't remember sms's, and let's face it, some kids send hundreds of emails daily, so I don't know if this was the case with the ex/ex-gf or not, but I would not be in the least bit surprised, as it seems the norm these days. I think in that context it would make sense not to remember it, and also a lot of the kids around Kelowna and Canada and all those places seem to be doing a lot of partying ... drinking, drugs, etc.. so I guess how well someone remembers sms's they receive is a function of how many sms's they get, whether there was anything noteworthy or out of the ordinary in them at the time, who sends them to you as to whether you'd even be inspired to remember their content, and whether the person was drunk or sober, on drugs or not. Again, just another loose end with so many questions, but I think it's useful to try and put ourselves in other's situations. And on that note, I've been doing a LOT of thinking as a result of stepping into Owen's shoes. I'll just end with the question ... so Owen's got bruises all over his face, he's black and blue, he's got black eyes, he's not able to think as normal and still suffering the effect of drug(s) (Percocet, magic mushrooms & who knows, maybe even other stuff) and I'd imagine he's getting sms's thick and fast from not only the ex-gf/gf, but probably from his boss saying where the hell are you, why haven't you come in for your shift? and his family members and friends saying where are you? what's happened to you? da de da de da just questions, questions, questions ... so, how's he going to answer his way out of these and not reveal the truth (if the truth is not known)? How might others his know might react to any news of what Owen had been doing comes out? Owen might have thought he'd be facing possible criminal charges, jail time, drug related charges as he admitted to the hospital and or maybe the LE he had taken the magic mushrooms, and then there's the question of just how is he going to explain things to his flatmates, to his friends, to his boss and workmates, to his family, and if he did, what would the consequences of doing this have been for Owen? One of the early newspaper interviews of his family quoted his family that they could think of no possible reason why Owen would be bashed up. So it would be natural for the family to try to work out why he was bashed up wouldn't it? I'd do that if that had happened to a friend, let alone a family member. But then Owen had the added complication of the police involvement. He's in a foreign country and I wonder whether he thought things were resolved and A-Ok with the police there, or whether he might be up on charges as a result of what he did and facing possible jail time in Canada. So yeah, these are a lot of things I'd imagine a young man might be fearing, and could well be cause to just think ... oh, to hell with it, I'm outta here, I've been kicked in the head repeatedly, I don't want to face any more questions, life is too hard, I'm leaving my life behind, so he does the symbolic act of cutting all ties with his current and previous life, he leaves his backpack behind and takes nothing but his wallet and clothes on his back, he doesn't want to be Owen Rooney any more. Just a theory I've been mulling over.

I read somewhere in some newspaper article re Owen online, that Owen's staying behind in Kelowna was the first time he'd ever lived away from his family or a family member in his whole life. What were the reasons for Owen staying behind? Financial, for friends he'd met in Kelowna, or was this act Owen's taking his first venture at cutting loose and cutting away from others - did he like this freedom? did he crave this freedom? did he need this freedom? Or, again the other theory is that he was abducted, or simple wandered away in his brain injured / drug affected state (prescribed or otherwise)?

Questions, questions. Does any of this make any potential sense as a theory to anyone else? To me it does make a lot of sense. Owen was hurting. When people are hurting mostly they withdraw. If they can't withdraw emotionally to deal with their pain and hurt, they withdraw physically. I saw exactly this withdrawal process in another young man last year ... that young man ran away as he couldn't cope with the media, with the authorities and with questions, questions and more questions. That young man was boxed in a corner, a corner where he only had two choices: to answer the questions or run, he chose to run. Did Owen do the same?

I wondered if maybe he took off because the bill from the hospital could be big... especially if he didn't have some kind of insurance. Couple that with all of the stress and I think it's quite conceivable that he took off.

  • #280
Yes, I've wondered that myself. One night in hospital would be very expensive, but the prospect of paying for two more nights in hospital before he could have gotten a CT scan, would have been very expensive. Now that is my assumption, but I'm assuming the radiographer probably doesn't work on the weekend's and only comes in during the week??? (Does anyone know?) if in fact that hospital actually does have a CT scanner. If Owen was essentially leaving the hospital on the quiet as he knew the doctor wanted him to stay in there, and he wanted to go (from Owen's point of view he may have been feeling rather ripped off the fact that he was in there all day, the nurses hadn't done any observations on him since 6.30am that morning (does that mean also that no medication was administered to Owen since 6.30am??), that they really weren't doing anything for him anyway, so why bother to stick around.

Owen I'd imagine would have been sick of arguments, so yeah I would think it would be easier to just get up and walk away.

One thing bothers me though, unless he owned two pairs of sunglasses, the fact that he left in his backpacks a pair of sunglasses. Even if he was running away, I'm thinking he would have grabbed his sunglasses. Unless, of course he walked off in anger and forgot about them. I wonder how often Owen used his sunglasses?
