''A 30-year-old man is dead following a police-involved shooting outside Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Duraiappah said officers “engaged in discussions” with a group of people — about two to three people — that were “experiencing a dispute.” He said officers spent an amount of time, around 10 to 15 minutes, trying to de-escalate and resolve the dispute.

“However, abruptly one of the individuals produced a firearm at our officers,” Duraiappah said, adding there were three Peel Regional Police officers that responded to the incident.

The Special investigations Unit (SIU), which acts as the province’s police watchdog and investigates various incidents such as officer-involved shootings, said a 30-year-old man was shot.''

Update. rbbm.
''Two Peel Regional Police officers discharged their guns on an armed man with a history of violence and court prohibition of having a firearm after he pointed his pistol and charged at a cop at Pearson International Airport on Thursday morning.''

''The 30-year-old man, deemed a “high risk” offender who was “preparing to travel,” died in the shooting, which is believed to have seen at least eight bullets fired.''

''This was very well handled by the SIU and Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah, who attended the scene with Deputy Chief Anthony Odoardi, Staff Supt. Martin Ottaway, Media Officer Tyler Bell-Morena to both show support for their officers and assure the community, and the country, that this was not a terror attack or that the airport was in any way involved or its infrastructure at risk.''

This whole story is weird. Lots of questions. What groups were arguing before? Why did this man have a gun? If he was preparing to travel as the article states, was he going to try to get his gun through security?

''The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) released on Friday the findings of its investigation into the April 24 fatal shooting at the departures level of Terminal 1.'

''The SIU said the incident began when airport security asked police to attend the departures level outside the terminal for a family dispute. A woman had approached security asking for assistance regarding her brother, who was the Complainant.

“The Complainant was reportedly in distress, owing to some combination of mental illness and drug consumption, and refusing to leave their vehicle to catch a flight,” the report stated.''
