GUILTY Canada - Rori Hache, 18, pregnant, found deceased, Oshawa, Ont, 29 Aug 2017

Yes, that's correct. AS wasn't known to RH's mother. Nor was she aware of any interaction(s) between AS and her daughter.

The million-dollar question really remains, as with all cases, "what do we not know"? Obviously RH didn't ask or expect to be murdered and dismembered by this individual, bless her soul, but we're all obviously wondering how their path's could have crossed.

Mutual friend.

Nearly one month after body parts were discovered in a basement apartment, police clear the scene

January 26, 2018

"The police tape and forensic truck aren’t serving as a reminder of the horrors found in an Oshawa basement apartment anymore.

Durham police confirm they’ve cleared the scene on McMillan Drive, nearly a month after parts of Rori Hache’s body were found in the home.

No one is charged yet with her murder.

The man who lived in the apartment, Adam Strong, is facing a charge of improper and indecent interference with a dead body."

AS appeared via video link at court today. It was remanded to Feb 6. No new charges were laid, though hopefully more will be forthcoming as soon as they have the evidence to support them! Apparently he was rude in court and refused to sit down, stating the seat looked nasty, and was arrogant, trying to speak over the judge (or Justice of the Peace).

No lawyer and no new charges for accused in Rori Hache case
January 29, 2018

"The mother of Rori Hache was in a courtroom Monday morning in tears as the man charged in connection with her daughter’s death appeared via video.

The case was put off again as the accused, Adam Strong, still doesn’t have a lawyer.

Shanan Dionne says she knows she still has a few tough days in court to come.

“I’m exhausted. My family and friends are exhausted. This is getting crazy, this is our fifth appearance for a bail hearing. It’s a difficult time for all of us,” Dionne said. “It’s not that I’m being impatient, but it’s been five months [that] my daughter’s been gone. I don’t understand the judicial system of keeping this person secure and safe and fed, it makes no sense to me.”

Strong appeared Monday via video. He hasn’t been able to connect with council and his case is being held off now until February 6."

Well AS, you're nasty. So deal with it. He's only intensifying the target on his back.

Don't they have court appointed attorneys in Canada?

I know prosecutors try to build the best case they can. I think they already have enough to file murder charges though.

If he cannot explain why he had parts or pieces of a body in his place where he lived and the defense cannot prove someone else killed someone in his place then if I was on the jury I would be able to convict him of murder.

IMO charges of murder should be filed by now.

He lived alone didnt he. He cannot prove someone else killed someone in his place. There is evidence of a murder victim in his place. Parts of a body down the drain. He lived there. Yup he did it. Where are the charges of murder?

In any sense, an aider or an abetter can be charged with first or second degree murder, or manslaughter. Maybe it's the degree of murder they are stuck on. I have no doubt that they will be laying a murder charge, it's just a matter of what and when.

Adam Strong makes court appearance by video due to 'security concerns'
Strong, arrested after remains of missing Oshawa teen Rori Hache found, makes brief court appearance
January 30, 2018

"Adam Strong appeared briefly via video link in an Oshawa courtroom Monday, Jan. 29. Court heard that while he’s been approved for Legal Aid, which helps pay for legal representation, Strong has yet to hire a lawyer because he’s been unable to arrange a video conference at the Central East Corrections Centre, where he’s being held.

Strong declined to appear in person in Oshawa due to “security concerns,” a duty counsel lawyer told court."

Yes, AS must be getting antsy, given his control issues.
He has been in custody for a month.

He's in protective custody? Confined space?

(ya, AS must know how he may meet his end.)

I agree it is likely to happen. Kind of wish it would happen soon because it gives the impression they dont have enough evidence yet and IMO I think there is plenty of evidence in his place that he killed someone there.

When there is pieces of a body down his drain then there is not a lot he could do to explain that unless he is able to claim and prove someone else committed the murder.

Re BBM
I found this a little humorous how he is claiming he hasnt got a laywer yet because of video conference issues and yet he appeared on a video conference. LOL

Our legal processes down in the US can run extremely slow so not knocking the Canada system at all. I actually like the Canada system a lot. I followed the Garland trial and I was very impressed with Canada's system in how they do things. The Garland trial was an amazing display of due diligence that the Canada prosecutors did.

Homicide investigations take time. It’s not like on TV. He’s in custody already, there’s no rush. Dot all your i’s and cross all your t’s.

But that's what I'm saying, even if he was an aider or an abettor, meaning someone else conducted the physical murder, he can still be charged. It's likely that he isn't giving up any information, and Rori isn't here to say what happened, so they are likely unsure on what degree of murder to charge him with.

Hi, new here. Have been reading comments on this case.
I had a thought on the reason why more charges haven't been announced to date.
It's quite possible LE has found other DNA at the scene linking other missing people.

Hi Chilliblue --
yes, it's possible there is much more for LE to sort and so they're being carefully methodical in taking their time
-- dotting and crossing their letters, as Iclabtech suggests above :) But if so that's a notable depature from LE in TO who have now charged the alleged serial killer Bruce MCArthur with multiple counts of murder on finding body parts across several of the properties with which he is associated. (At the same time, it appears that LE in that case had to "act fast" since there was another potential victim at risk: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...hur-to-protect-life-of-young-man-sources.html .) There are many dissimilarities across the cases (LE was surveiling McArthur and I don't believe that's true of Strong, for example) so it's perhaps not useful to make comparisons.
Still, perhaps the evidence against the former is more straightforward than the latter?
