Hmm, with the towns being stacked like that, one might hope someone may have heard something if something happened inside the home, and especially at that time of night where perhaps people aren't necessarily fully asleep yet. I'm sure LE have asked for all of the videotapes from the area from shopkeepers. With nothing said about her being caught on video walking down any street, it leads one to imagine that she wasn't walking. I'm sure they were on the lookout for the 'estranged' husband's vehicle.... since it was reported so many days later though, I wonder how often and how long it takes for one day to become taped over with another day?
I used to own a small cafe for a few years and one time detectives came asking for my recordings because of a woman who had disappeared (and later found murdered). I felt so guilty because of the way they looked at me when I told them the camera wasn't 'real', and was there mostly to deter any staff from thinking about theft. I felt like a real badguy for having such petty thoughts when a real camera could have potentially caught a killer. (I actually bought the cafe like that, with the cameras already set up, and already fake, so I just left them there).

Don't feel too bad, I hear even the cameras that do work don't keep the video long enough to use after a certain time period. Some cameras only hold 24hrs of footage and re-record over and over so a lot of times it's unusable anyway :) Nowadays they might be starting to record longer of back up the files better with this stuff, so probably depends on the business preference and camera companies.

This case is concerning to me, because I feel like the undertone of possible mental illness or instability is creating a general attitude that has Shannon walked away.

In the Kayelyn Louder case, there was more than just an undertone of mental illness-she was spotted on surveillance video looking disoriented and had made several false calls to 911 the day of her disappearance. As a result, it seems like her family and the public assumed she was out there alive. Instead, she was found in a river nine weeks after going missing, likely having died on the day she went missing.

I won't go into the details of Teleka Patrick's case, but she was a young doctor who showed signs of severe mental illness on social media and at work. Again, it was assumed that she was living along the homeless or riding with truckers. Again, she died the day she went missing, and was found months later in a pond.

I could provide many more examples: Connor Trapatsos is another, but my point is that even if there are very strong signs that one is unstable or mentally ill, there is still a strong chance that they may have succumbed to the elements, suicide, or sometimes foul play. Remember that mentally ill persons are much more likely to be the victim of the crime than the perpetrator. Searches should be made in the vicinity of where every MP went missing, in every case. So often they are found very close to where they were last seen.

Yes, another reason this theory doesn't jive that she left to have a breather. The only way I think this theory works, is it she's of unsound mind or in an unstable mental state for her to leave without the basics or notifying her family.

Here are my various ideas about Shannon.. Pure speculation...

Personally, I don't think Shannon was all that open regarding her personal life with her family and siblings. I don't think they know much about her daily activities or what coat she was wearing this season. She probably has a significant wardrobe and if she packed a suitcase full of essentials it could be hard to determine what she may have taken and again I don't think her family would be able to identify her clothing. They did not recover a passport and I wonder if LE has confirmed if she has a valid passport. I also think she could have been working as a waitress and made her living in cash. The paychecks are peanuts but the tips are cash and so she has no need to deposit the tips into a bank account which also keeps her in the income bracket for the housing as she probably doesn't claim the tips on her income tax. I also think she could have cashed her paychecks instead of banking the cash. I don't think her jobs were paying her via direct deposit. I don't think she had much of a money trail. She may have had a credit card. I also think she may not have had the funds to pay her rent for December or knew she would be leaving and so never deposited any cash into a chequing account to cover her payment to the landlord (who I am assuming has post dated cheques). The co-op requires two months notice to end tenancy and I wonder if she had given notice or she was unable to give two-months so she may have decided to skip out and forfeit her deposit or share buy-in as the co-op calls it. These are just some random thoughts that could fit into the theory of her leaving on her own free will. Why she wouldn't contact her family is a mystery to me. Maybe the dynamics of the family are not as they seem.

Also, I notice that the co-op housing does not include a washing machine but does include a dryer. I wonder if she had a washer in her unit or if she used a laundromat.

I myself, am only bringing up mental health issues as it's the *only* reason I can think of that SB would 'leave' on her own free will. I did find it a bit strange that one of the first reports mentioned LE is looking into her medical records(?) I don't recall hearing this that often with a missing person's case.

By mentioning mental health issues, I guess it's my way of being optimistic if you will, and to not focus too much on the foul play idea or have tunnel vision. I believe something happened to her accidentally or there's foul play involved. I personally don't think she had mental health issues nor that she left to have a break. JMO.

I don't want to toss the mental health label around lightly either, hope I don't come across that way! In a way I'm trying to defend SB, because I don't think she'd consciously or deliberately do this to her friends and family.

Could be possible that LE leaked the "estranged husband" comment so that the real suspect might think they got away with it and the heat is on the husband? Maybe JB and the family is going along with it?

I think police would eventually search the apartment, as it becomes more obvious she did not simply "leave". LE has real problems dealing with missing adults. Adults can come and go as they please, as long as they are not missing child support payments or something like that. And if there is no crime scene or clues pointing toward foul play, a long time can pass before they decide to treat a case as a potential crime.

Still, if something happened in a residence, usually forensics can find some small bit of evidence...if they are lucky. Jmo

UPDATE:

Calgary police have spent two days scouring Fish Creek Park after the discovery of macabre photos attached to trees.

Multiple sources told the Sun the investigation is related to the disappearance of 25-year-old Shannon Burgess, who was last seen nearly three weeks ago.

“Crime scene units have spent the last two days in the park looking for clues,” said a source.

The investigation launched after two photographs of a woman were found attached to trees in Fish Creek Park, sources said.

The first was found by Fish & Wildlife staff and a passerby alerted police to the second.

Sources said a person in the photos appears to have similarities to Burgess, but the subject’s face is obscured by hair and flowers in at least one of the pictures.

“We really don’t know what we’re dealing with at the moment,” said a source.

“This is just all very creepy.”

It’s believed the photos have been in the park less than two weeks.

A source said Burgess’ family has been alerted to the search.

While not yet involved, the homicide unit has been apprised of the situation, according to a source.

A cadaver dog was in the park Tuesday and will return Wednesday.

It’s expected the Calgary Search and Rescue Association will be involved in a grid search, said a source.

Earlier this month police said Burgess was last seen by a family member at 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 27 at her home in the 1900 block of Spiller Rd. S.E.

When she didn’t show up for plans with family and friends on the weekend, her loved ones became concerned.

She was reported missing on Dec. 1. Her cellphone and vehicle were left at her home.

At the time, police said there were no indications of foul play, but it is out of character for Burgess not to be in touch with her family and friends. Burgess is known to travel to Edmonton to visit friends and for work as a performance artist and stand-up comedian.

Last week, the Toronto and Vancouver police services issued press releases saying investigators received information suggesting Burgess could be in one of those cities.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

In the Michelle Matovich case however, she came forward to police only a day after they issued a Canada-wide alert for her. Which makes sense, if what you're doing is running away rather than being carried away. The game is over, was over a week or so ago when police got involved and family did a presser, and yet still no word, even just to say, 'leave me alone'.

There was a photo somewhere of Shannon with a flower ring in her hair. Looked like a May Day Festival of sorts. I hope they can compare them with her stage photo's as she did perform in macabre style productions and hopefully someone is playing a sick joke and placing those pictures. This is very scary. Now more info should become available. Thanks for posting.

The fact that they used the word macabre - meaning gruesome, horrifying...

Are they possibly old acting stills? The other possibility is that it is her and we have some serial killer leaving clues...

I think I will stick to the acting stills. Less frightening.

So scary is right. Downright disturbing. It does seems 'proppy' or shrine-like, like someone is mimicking something they saw out of a movie.

I sure hope so. She did play in macabre productions. Who would do such a thing if it isn't real?

We will know more in the morning.

Yeah, macabre is an interesting choice of words. I think dark, or horror movie-ish for sure. Who would take the time to do this??? A suspect or prankster? If a suspect did this, I think this is pretty sick.

Does anyone know where this park is in relation to her residence geographically? Is it a far walk/drive?

It is in the deep South. It is a very large Provincial park and it is not uncommon for bodies to show up.

It would be considered a far drive and a very far walk.

How do we know she didn't pack a bag or have money? I could walk out my door right now with a bag of clothes and ubscene amount of cash. That no one would know I have set aside. How would we on WS know if she did this? LE may know if she did, but they may not tell us. They may not even know.

Especially if they are men [emoji39]

Try asking a man to determine what clothes are missing from a woman's wardrobe.

If the photos have been there less than 2 weeks, that leaves a 7 day gap from when she was last seen presumably. The photos must've been placed there after Dec. 1st...
