An article about LARP, ( the fantasy game previously mentioned as one SM may have been involved with) in Toronto..

How To: LARP

Megan O'Toole | February 19, 2011

"In one hypothetical example, several volunteers dressed as goblins would run into Jericho — the game’s central town, set up most recently as a campsite in rural Ontario — and snatch the mayor’s daughter. Players could then decide what to do: attack the goblins, negotiate the girl’s safe release, or perhaps join forces with the goblins to take over the town.

During game weekends, the story runs 24 hours a day, and players are required to remain in character the entire time, sleeping whenever they dare. Combat, which occurs using padded “boffer” weapons, can deplete a player’s “body points,” which are subsequently replenished as that player gains more experience. But if the tally hits zero, the player dies — a development that can be highly emotional for some, forcing them to create a new character.

“When you play a character for five years, it’s like a second you, and then it’s gone,” Mr. Ashby says.

Adds Ms. Rodé: “People have come and said it was too real.”

Very interesting stuff, I wonder how hardcore Shannon was with it and if her husband played?

Indeed. The names, and photos of the arrested men, suggest First Nation men are responsible. Perhaps there should be a national inquiry into First Nation men targeting non-First Nation Canadian women.

"Corey George Manyshots, 25, and his brother Cody George Manyshots, 21, have each been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, assault causing bodily harm, kidnapping, uttering threats and robbery.

no I think the inquiry into the police rarely investigating or ignoring crimes against native people is more realistic (like the pickton fiasco).

I am pretty sure she is referring to a LARP group here in Calgary:

Our Live Action Role-Play group (LARP) is based on a fantasy setting of our own creation using the Alliance Ruleset. Our world is one of "high fantasy" akin to Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons. Players create medeival fantasy characters to enter our world and face the wonders, trials and conflicts that our PLOT team comes up with. It's time to "BE ALL YOU CAN'T BE"!*Our LARP is for those 18+ years of age due to content and insurance requirements.

She refers to LARP in other posts and I suspect being an actor, she partakes in these types of groups.

Is this Shannon?

I got to her through your link...

It looks like her but not 100% sure. The guy in the following pic looks like Ron Jeremy.

I think it is her. She has a similar photo where she is in costume on her FB. Good find. It will probably be snipped so save it somewhere!

Also, she is tagged in another... Liam and sister.

ETA... Definetly her... I am at a loss here! What is this LARP stuff?? I live such a sheltered life!
I will try to get up to speed...

Could she be participating in the Toronto Larp event...
Is this whole thing potentially a role play? It certainly is not breaking the law on her part if it is and may indeed bring 15 minutes of modest fame.

Not sure I have the right website, but the Toronto LARP new player socials/meet ups were in November. Also, she would probably be carrying her costume with her which her husband would have mentioned I would assume.

You.never know. She may reveal herself here or at some other event.
This whole thing is an intriguing mystery amplified by the anticipation of any news!

So this LARP community seems to be people who have formed friendships so why wouldn't these groups have any info or appeals regarding a missing member?

On the LARP Calgary FB page, one of the members posted a question on Dec 7th asking if anyone has heard anything about Shannon yet. One of SB's friend's responded, his is the last comment on Dec 8th. He mentions "the police believes she was last seen at home in Calgary and missed her appointments. If she was seen in Edmonton they must be informed. All of her belongings were left at home." (BBM)

All points back to the home again.

I think they would, I don't think she'd up and leave to fly/hitchhike to Toronto for LAPR, JMO.

And IIRC, wasn't her comment about Alliance/LARP something about how she misses it? I don't think she's played or been involved for awhile by her FB comment that she 'missed' Alliance.

Good point. I guess we are hoping for the best. But logic is not supporting these possibilities.

I still haven't ruled out an accident yet. Maybe if she did walk to the store let's say, is there anywhere around there she could've had an accident, fallen? Brainstorming…trying to not to have tunnel vision on a domestic situation….

Years ago in my youth I went camping, we were drinking, went to go pee in the bush (sorry TMI), it was dark, I literally walked off a 'little cliff/embankment' down a steep angle where the super loud river was below. If I yelled no one would hear me because of the river/people talking. I slowly climbed back up the hill, but it was scary because I'd climb up a foot, but then slide back down. It was so scary, I could've *easily* slid into the river!

Scary. I could've disappeared without a trace, no sound, nothing, and people would probably think I was abducted. Weird accidents happen. I keep trying to think maybe this happened with Shannon and not foul play (fingers crossed still).
