Found Deceased Canada - Shannon Burgess, 25, Calgary, 26 Nov 2014 - #2 *Arrest*

I cannot for the life of me, figure out why there has been such silence on this case. No flyers, no public pleas for assistance from the family, no website created... It is very odd in a missing persons case to hear so little.

If you go back to the press conference, when among other bothersome cues, the sister said the day "she left"... it is probable that the people closest to her don't truly deep down believe it is out of character for her to up and leave on a whim. Given her flighty, fantasy filled lifestyle portrayed online, I can't say as I blame them.

It will be unfortunate if it is discovered she *has* met with foul play. Those closest will then have to look in the mirror to decide if they did enough when it mattered...

If the family has secretly heard from Shannon, I think they should feel obligated to let LE know this to not waste their resources. And if the family hasn't heard from Shannon personally then they are very optimistic, almost too optimistic to stop looking or keeping it in the media.

And I totally agree with you, if she has met with foul play, that will be a hard pill to swallow for her friends and family.

I think they would have to take the chance on offending for the sake of safety. If SB went away on her own accord like that, without notifying any of her loved ones or friends even just to say she was safe and doing what she wanted to do, I'll bet the family could live with it if it turned out that she did that selfish act and then wanted nothing to do with them later on, just for trying to save her and find her. I dont' see how a person could blame their loved ones for doing every possible thing within their means to do, to ensure that person's safety. MOO.

Maybe they have concrete reason to believe she went somewhere to get away, and they're afraid that if they give any updates or mention in the media again that it will drive her further away/to want to continue to stay gone...like trying to give her 'space' to return when she's ready.

It's the strangest case.

Just an FYI, it didn't make a splash in the news outside of Calgary, and most inside Calgary wouldn't recognize her if she cut or colored her hair, let alone anywhere else.

As for income, there are plenty of men only too happy to pay for live in, attractive young woman. Open a bank account in your name, and give her the card. Cash is fine too. There has to be a reason for the Vancouver/Toronto theory, and it's plausible that info was gleaned from one or more dating site message. If she doesn't want to be found, she can keep this up for a long, long time.

Interesting article and definitely not surprising. There is likely some kind of police activity here targeting either the ex or one of her many "casual encounters". I do not share the belief she is alive and well. Alive...slim possibility but only if she is being held in a dungeon somewhere. Well...definitely not.

It truly is a waiting game now. Truth may take months or possibly decades to be known!

This whole cab driver guy is really bothering me. He was released on bail but could be deported after the court procedure(as per Global News). Wouldn't those circumstances make him a flight risk and therefore bail is denied? I wonder if he is under surveillance and if LE was able to search his home for any evidence/souvenirs from other victims. Maybe he will be re-arrested in the next couple days.

35-year-old Umar Khayyam made his first court appearance Monday. As a temporary foreign worker who has been in Canada less than a year, Khayyam could be deported if he is convicted.

I'm not up to speed on immigration policies, but am wondering if someone can be in Canada on a tourist visa (or any other type of visa) while making application to remain in the country as a TFW. IOW, is there clear documentation of his arrival date in Canada other than a date on a TFW application.

^^ just something I'm considering as a possibility in relation to Emma Fillipoff's disappearance in BC, so not just Shannon's case.

I could see this as well for Emma. I think about the CCTV video they have of her standing in the foyer. She could have come in to the building after leaving a cab and was waiting for him to drive away. She was aggitated and pacing. Others think she was high and jonesing or suffering a withdrawl symptom. I have always thought she was waiting for someone to either pick her up or waiting for them to leave so they could not see her leave the building.

A cabbie involved seems very plausible in both cases.

IIRC, I don't believe Emma had any substance abuse issues or did drugs. A woman who was supposedly at the shelter the same time as her said she was not under any influence and I believe friends say this as well. It's sad though because I think most of the public and possibly LE have Emma lumped in as a sort of 'street person' with bad habits when in fact I think she's just a free spririt, soul searching kind of girl with possible mental health issues

Possible re a suitcase, but then why leave car and cellphone? Is there a local store open at that time of night that SB may have just decided to walk to, rather than drive? When I go to my local convenience store I take nothing other than keys, driver's licence, debit card .. that's it.
