For me, this kind of lends of credence to the theory Shannon's left on her own accord, and/or LE and the family are satisfied with the information they have at the moment, not needing any further assistance from the public. Just my opinion.

I find it odd that with JMB he was known to leave on his own for periods of time and go off grid. And yet there was more info and pleas there then here.

"Active" in what sense though? Doesn't look like they're doing much. It's still open, as they haven't located her, but it doesn't appear as though they're actively searching.

I may be alone on this, but I still think it's quite possible they've taken it down a notch (or ten) after discovering something to indicate she's done this by choice.

They are always doing stuff behind the scenes. We are talking about someone who's missing a few months not years. In the Lisa Mitchell case they were actively building their case for 2 years with no updates to the public. She was a missing person with no leads.

From what I can see, Lisa's case got quiet in the 2nd year, though the media was revisiting the case and the police were renewing their pleas for assistance in locating her. There were some updates on sightings. Posters were distributed over the 2 years. Was there a Facebook page for her?

SB's case got quiet within about three weeks---maybe it will pick up again? Is it just that we can't compare as it's only been a few months? Are they still distributing posters?

Just like Shannon may have gone to Vancouver or Toronto. The similarities are interesting but it also shows that CPS was actively working on Lisa Mitchell's case the whole time as it takes time and planning to work out a sting operation.

At the 2 year mark there was in the link I provided above. JMB and NL didn't have press conferences. Some do and some don't. I'm unsure of what the protocol is for determining a press conference.

Lisa's case, for whatever reason, was quiet from the beginning. Shannon's was a headline, silenced within a few weeks. While it may, unfortunately, be quiet like Lisa's because it was due to a similar cause, it may also just have changed suddenly because of a discovery that changed how the case was being regarded.

So....if CPS had initially assessed this as an urgent situation, did a press conference, and then discovered something (I'm guessing sometime around December 12th) that changed the sense of urgency, might it not also change their approach to the case?

Or did they change their approach in that time because they'd decided that a sting operation was in order? Would they notify the family of this possibility? If the family was aware of this, would they embark on a tropical getaway 2-3 weeks later?

It was a national headline before the Fish Creek thing. Why go from bold to understated? Lisa's was understated the entire time, until her body was discovered.

It was only a national headline because of the broad scope of could be in Vancouver or Toronto. That's one end of the country to the other. I'm curious as to who told LE that's a possibility.

Don't think so...I actually caught wind of this case while overseas, before they expanded the search. I'm originally from the Toronto area, and news sources I follow from back home are based on that location. It was a national headline almost immediately.

Another thing that cannot be overlooked, was the vast use of resources spent on the search in Fish Creek Park... Over photos. If they really thought she voluntarily disappeared to another city, they certainly wouldn't have wasted those resources.

Due diligence. It would have been irresponsible for them to ignore it under any circumstances, even if they had strong indications that she was headed somewhere else.

Besides, if they had ignored it, then people would have really started asking questions. Seems the last thing they want is attention.

These were 'pictures' hanging from a tree. In order to justify that extent of resources, they would need to reasonably believe that there is cause. Had those Officer's been needed elsewhere and they were tied up on 'due diligence' - Someone would have some serious explaining to do. Had they truly believed that she was in another city, they would have deployed a couple of investigators and a few patrols. This was a full-on search complete with K-9 and forensics. That is highly unusual and suspect.

Sometimes officers cover their butts by getting warrants even when consent is given, and likewise, they may investigate something that counters their theories.
