GUILTY Canada - Shannon Burgess, 25, Calgary, 26 Nov 2014 - #4 *Arrest*

When I look at these "cases" and I hate using that word, because these aren't just "cases" they are peoples lives and wellbeing, unless there is absolute screaming evidence that the person is deceased, then I personally cannot just jump to the conclusion that because she hasn't been heard from then she must be dead.

THe above links are just some food for thought. It is entirely possible to disappear and not be deceased.

Absolutely! Everyone should sit back and be entitled to an opinion about the woman that has been missing for months. Everyone is entitled to posture and toss out <modsnip> and theories, but the bottom line is that this woman vanished from her home on a cold winter night, and no one seems to be looking for her.

<modsnip>

Shannon Burgess is missing, and very likely murdered on the night that she was last seen in her home by her husband. What police can't sort out is whether he's telling the truth and she left, or he's lying and she never left. My money is on: she did not leave her home alive on the night that she was last reported alive.

I think she never made it back to her home that day from Edmonton (moo). One of her Calgary friends said she had just seen her the day before (Tuesday), so that makes it seem that she returned to Calgary after the weekend in Edmonton, and then went back again for her audition or whatever, on the Wednesday, in a one-day round trip. With SB reporting her bad brakes the evening before, someone would have likely driven her there and back, and too late to attend the functions she had signed up to attend in Calgary that evening. Too bad it is such a span between Edmonton and Calgary, which would, for financial reasons, preclude searches from being done in the lands off of the main roadways. I suppose those areas are not much traveled by hikers and so it would be hit and miss and pure chance as to whether her remains will be found.

A brief statement from Shannon's sister:

Erin Madill, Shannon’s sister, said news of her death was “devastating” to the family, who had been holding out hope she’d be found alive.

The family knew from police that Joshua had been a person of interest in the case but “we chose not to condemn or assume that he did it until we actually had facts in front of us,” Erin said Sunday morning.

Joshua had spoken with the family “a little bit” in March but not since then, she added.

“I’m relieved that we have some closure and some answers but of course it is absolutely devastating, because so many lives have been ruined through this – his included and his family’s,” Erin said. “It’s not just my family that is going to be hurt by this.”

Police say Shannon Madill Burgess' case transitioned from disappearance to murder within the last week.

Shannon Madill Burgess' body was found Friday, at residence of her and her husband, Joshua Burgess, who is now accused of her murder.

Police say there was no history of violence between victim Shannon Madill Burgess and suspect Joshua Burgess that they were aware of.

Police say Shannon Madill Burgess' body was concealed at the property but are not disclosing exactly how it was concealed at this time.

No weapon has been recovered in connection to Shannon Madill Burgess' murder. Investigators remain at the home and continue to search.

I haven't been following closely since the first couple months of this case, but I must say that this is a shock to me. Like many here, I assumed that Shannon's free spirit had lead her into a bad situation, or that she was out living off the grid somehow. I am saddened to be wrong about the latter theory. I am also anxious for more details about why and how this murder happened.

RIP Shannon, I am glad that your alleged murderer is behind bars. May your family find peace and closure in justice.

OMG! Just read the news article. I posted way back when she first went missing, about how it was frustrating that LE couldn't search her home she shared with husband.......who's to see she wasn't somewhere in the home. It reminded me of that other Calgary case of the poor Mom/wife who'd been missing for a few years (Lisa Mitchell), who'd been deceased in the home all that time. This is so sad and so sick, the agony her family must have endured all this time...........which could have at least ended sooner had LE been able to search the home. So sad. Gotta catch up now on the details.

I called this one right from the outset as did many others. I would suspect the strike force had been watching this guy for many months to make sure he didn't move the body. Let's hope this creep gets the max sentence! Our laws against this type of creep in Canada are too lenient. He should be brought to justice for this.

Dennis I thought you were always leaning toward her disappearance (and likely death) was due to her believed involvement in an alternative lifestyle and possible high risk lifestyle?

That was my second choice(disappearance was lifestyle related) If you read my earliest posts my first hypothesis was that this creep,Josh Burgess killed her. My mistake was I had assumed the CPS had searched the house and that Burgess had agreed to it. I must admit this is a surprise but also consistent with my initial assertions.

Sad but not surprising news,

Prayers for her family,

Very sorry that such a lovely, vibrant and unique young lady, was stolen in the prime of her life.
Did not think Shannon would have fallen prey to the most banal and predictable of threats, the soon to be ex, imo.

No surprises with this arrest. It was the only logical explanation for her disappearance. She was last seen at home, and then she was not seen again. The husband was always the only explanation for Shannon's disappearance and murder. I still think it was about money - that Shannon had extra expenses due to car repairs in Edmonton, that used joint money, and the husband was not happy. I also think that there was a dispute over who would keep the subsidized co-op housing. I guess we'll have to wait for more info about motive.

Thinking of Shannon in her home-made, sound-proof? studio, discussing her closet seen behind her, in
her live chat book video..

You know what is even more ironic...

Lisa Mitchell's body was found in her home on Friday December 5, 2014.

(Shannon was reported missing Monday December 1, 2014. Will Josh also (soon) be charged with indignity to a body?)

He buried her?

Same location, but from a different angle.

This is husband during the press conference, and the apartment where Shannon's body was apparently buried in the backyard. I doubt he could have put a shovel into the ground on November 27, so he must have buried her more recently, after the ground thawed.

Did he bury her in the neighbour's yard?
