The police were there first.

Just heard Global's Ottawa bureau chief, Mercedes Stephenson, giving up update on tv. She says the gunman was already at the gas station, officers police pulled in, looked across and saw the car, realized it was the gunman, at that point he reached for his gun, an ERT member opened fire and killed him.

A woman's husband that has previously towed GW's bmw out of a ditch near his home was called in to tow the vehicles burnt and has confirmed GW also burnt his own home down.

Alanna & Shawn's home was lit on fire, as well as the Zahl's.

Source?

Not sure why my edit isn't appearing but-
I seen somewhere that the police showed up to some surrounding neighbors to do wellness checks even though the article states otherwise. It's also believed to be GW. The article I just posted explains that they told him about the list on Tuesday; he was the seventh or eighth name on his list

RCMP spoke to that person on Tuesday about the list, from your post. He says that they were at his house on Saturday night as well, but it's impossible that they were at his house on Saturday night because of the list.

It's understandable that people want to blame someone. With the shooter dead, some people seem to be angry with police for not preventing the shootings. They need an outlet, but RCMP are not responsible for the deaths.

Yes. Her friend was interviewed and said she knew it was Gina the moment her Mazda was shown.
Just to point out, there's plenty of other Mazda 3's on the road, so unless she knew the licence plate number, this isn't actually proof.

Ok something just hit me

Could it be possible that every single one of the homes targeted may have been ones that he thought his GF may have fled to?

Yes, this is becoming an excellent example that not all news reports are always true. It was reported early that GW’s ex and her boyfriend were the first to be killed. So if that’s true then GW and his current girlfriend were at a party at his ex’s?

Sometimes I truly wonder if reporter “sources” are from FB.

Interestingly, CBC's The National reported the opposite a few minutes ago. I don't think I can post the exact clip until The National has ended, but it's about 2 minutes into the show here:

"At the time, police were advising on Twitter that he was driving a silver Chevrolet Tracker in the Milford, N.S., area.

But by that point, Wortman was actually driving a Mazda 3 owned by one of his victims, Gina Goulet, who lived in nearby Shubenacadie, N.S."

Some though, such as Gina Goulet's, would be pretty far to think she fled to. But I imagine that probably ran through his mind when he burned the ones after the party Saturday night.

true, but could it be possible that he may have thought she had contacted somebody to come and get her? Especially after not finding her at any of their neighbors homes

I'm sure he would have been even more enraged if he knew she had fled and he couldn't find her.

ETA I know there was speculation from a neighbor via an interview with an MSM reporter where the person said something like it seemed like he was targeting people he knew. Could he actually have been targeting her/thier friends?
I will try to find a link to that interview

just speculating

@Brett_CBC

“BREAKING: CBC News' Investigative Unit has learned (according to several sources) new details about the NS shooting. The manhunt ended when the shooter went to a gas station to fill up, and police officers were already there to refuel; one of those officers shot him.”

The version you heard makes more sense to me.

An earlier CBC tweet above reported it differently.

I guess it depends on when she escaped, before or after he started his rampage. Also, did she go off in a car or on foot?

I don't understand why he tied her up, to begin with. What was he planning to do with her and why did he go away, rather than just do it?

Door #1, 2 or 3 ?? :D

Ah well, pretty understandable there is confusion given the sheer magnitude of this case and it is still early with everybody trying to sort it all out.

Why did the killer change his clothes do you think? Did he have blood on his jacket? Did he intend to stand on the road somewhere pretending to be securing the perimeter? Was he too hot? Did he know there was a surveillance camera there? In case someone had a description of what he was wearing?
He didn’t change his clothes, if you are referring to video in which he gets out of “cruiser”. He has the hives on over a jacket. Takes the of together, then puts hiviz back on. Too warm. However, a shot posted showing part of his upper body after. He was shot suggests he had only a white T-shirt on at that point. If you are referring to that, I don’t know. Since he was in a civilian car, he couldn’t step out at gas station dress as an RCMP, so perhaps that made him think to remove shirt and hiviz vest.

It could be. I see a string of connections. Some personal, some petty. Lisa McCully had a property dispute with him. Gina Goulet owned a competing business. Perhaps there was some small town issue with clientele between the two. We'll likely never know.

This guy just strikes me as a sad sack who saw himself hard done by and wanted others to pay.

I live close to the scene. Not all homes were located on Portapique Beach Rd. Some also took place on Orchard Beach Rd. Given the distance between each home, I don't think it's possible that she escaped to all the homes. He had homes on both roads.

Looks to me like there's only two on/off ramps in the area;

224 by the Shubenacadie River. And 102 at 14 by Tractor Dome Inc. I would assume one of those two. The 224 looks right based on pics.

About 18 mins, or 22kms approximately.
Yes I think that is the area where the police cars were burning in the video :(. I recognize the building from an online picture or from the video.

The more I read, the more I'm a bit dumbfounded. They don't know whether they caught the shooter at 11:21PM April 18? Are RCMP not talking to each other as they swarm the area?

"Do we know if they've caught the assailant?" a first responder asked dispatch at 11:21 p.m.

"No, not for sure," was the response. "They don't know if they've caught him."

That’s not RCMP, I think. Rather it’s ambulance or fire fighters waiting to get in.
