page 8 is there. Try loading it again FG. And yes, it is a page dedicated to Sonia. They built a cottage in her name.

Wasn't Sonia working at her new job in the summer months? If so, how could have attended that camp on her last summer? She was an alumni of that camp.

Hopefully le did not overlook taking dna samples from the male staff. Windriver also have hiking boots. And hiking boots are worn at that camp. One director left after 11 years at that camp, and is working at another summer camp.

This has been taken from another thread. It has to do with dna.

The head of the Toronto police cold case squad was a young constable when Christine was murdered. Det.-Sgt. Brian Borg is now a veteran homicide cop who believes the latest DNA technology could provide something police have never had — a description of Christine's killer.

Borg said physical details, such as a suspect’s hair colour, eye colour and ethnicity, can help police focus an investigation.

I have heard of this being done before, so why not do this with the dna of the killer of Sonia??

Seeking the Public’s Assistance
New Information Released in Serial Killer Case

8/13/13

After Israel Keyes was arrested for the murder of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig in Alaska in 2012, authorities realized that the man they had in custody was a prolific serial killer. Keyes freely admitted as much.

During conversations with investigators, the 34-year-old sometime construction worker revealed the names of two additional victims—along with tantalizing clues about other murders he had committed around the country over a period of years. But last December, Keyes killed himself in his Anchorage jail cell, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and unidentified victims.

Those victims have not been forgotten, however. Today we are releasing new information in the hopes that the public can help us identify others who died by Keyes’ hands. The information includes extensive videotaped conversations with Keyes in jail and an interactive map that contains a detailed timeline of his known movements beginning in 1997.
..............................

Between July and September 2010 there is a pause in the timeline, so maybe the serial killer had some new targets in Canada?

hi all. I was recently on holiday in the US and met a senior US crime investigator (forget what his title actually is) and I spent some time with him talking about Sonia's case. I tried my best to give details with as little interpretation or opinion as possible and asked him for his thoughts. I don't think there was anything overly promising in his answer -- no "eureka" case-solving ideas for which I was hoping. I'm not going to post all of what he said but one thing that kind of stood out to me -- not sure if anyone here or on UC, where I have also posted this message, has mentioned this before -- is that when vehicles are commandeered by perps, there are almost always (he said) finger prints left on the rear-view mirror. Almost always. If, on the other hand, the mirror is wiped clean, THAT gives another kind of very clear profile of the killer: able to think clearly and ahead (and may or may not indicate pre-med for the crime; for example, wearing gloves will not fully remove other prints, and so is not the same as wiping). Did LE get prints from Sonia's mirror? Was it wiped clean or are there patches where print is removed from gloves? Sonia was not a tall woman and this perp, we might imagine, was probably keen to keep an eye on traffic behind him. Wouldn't it would be safe to assume that mirror was adjusted? What does LE know or have re: the evidence specifically there?

btw: the expert I spoke with did not see this perp as a "risk-taker" in terms of "reckless" or intoxicated behaviour -- but, in fairness, that may be because that is my own opinion, and I may have unconsciously, despite my best intention, described the details in a "leading" way to produce a similar response.

Excellent point.

Where is Sonia's killer?

In my mind, Sonia's and Audrey's cases are linked.

2 MAJOR, horrific, assaults on 2 women.

The only other unsolved crime of this nature in Canada that I can think of is Lindsay Buziak. While there is a strong probability of motive in her case, perhaps there is something more there?

Father Larry Leger gave the sermon, addressing the tragic nature of Varaschin’s death.

“Though we all die, there is nothing acceptable about Sonia’s death, about this situation, we do not need to learn to accept it — no, it will never be acceptable.”

Leaving the church, Varaschin’s mother Michele, father Attilio and brother Viv looked sombre. Her boyfriend of one year, Ian Rushton, wiped his eyes.

In an interview with the Star this week, Michele Varaschin called the past month a nightmare. “I just can’t understand someone wanting to do wrong to her,” she said.

The police do not have any suspects in SV's case - can you imagine that?

Play the first video (the one with the picture of Sonia)
http://globalnews.ca/news/1533789/o...n-on-video-related-to-sonia-varaschin-murder/

No suspects ... but early reports indicated a number of POIs....

Here's what I added on another site:
"MissR" posted this link in response, http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Crime/2010/09/08/15284086.html, which contains the following:

Quote: "Pritchard said police are looking at 'a number of persons of interest.' " Unquote

and from this story, quote: "Police are investigating 'a number of persons of interest' in the murder of Orangeville’s Sonia Varaschin" unquote -- from http://www.orangeville.com/news-story/1484937-boots-hold-key-to-finding-sonia-s-killer/

WHO were/ARE these POIs ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Quite chilling in retrospect..
from link, bbm.

"We believe that Sonia's killer is very familiar with Orangeville, with the outskirts of Orangeville, Sonia's neighbourhood, Sonia's townhouse and potentially even Sonia herself," Pritchard said. "I don't believe this was a random event."

Great quote. I forgot that.

Cab driver? Cop? EMS attendant?

Who the hell else would be SO familiar with both Orangeville community and the outskirts?

EMS attendant who knew Sonia from hospital? Anyone?????

  • #1,173
That feels almost like a lead somehow.

A break.

Good work, Dotr.

Ambulance driver or cop who was in and out of emerge? Hmmm. Did Sonya work in emerge? I can't recall now

Would Marks Work Warehouse be an authorized provider of work boots for police or ems in Orangeville? Like they get a yearly allowance to buy their boots say? Maybe the killer had extra allowance left and got those boots for home use. I don't think either of those professionals would wear those boots for work?

ETA - Holy crap. They sold them in brown AND black. BLACK.

Ambulance attendant or EMS or whatever. Black boots size 10 or 11. Familiar with Sonya through hospital. Familiar with BOTH Orangeville and country roads.

Is anyone with me on this? This really feels right. I'm having a fit here guys. Someone give me feedback please

Omg. EMS headquarters in Orangeville is 1 km away from Sonyas house and .5 kms away from Equestrian place. Wth. I am having a fit here.

ETA - Ok that is a medical ems transport service. But still. Wow

I have to go to bed. I am wound up like a top and can't help but feel I'm onto something here. Maybe I am grasping at straws, but, I'll tell you it feels like an aha moment.

Hopefully my fellow wsers can help.

Where there is smoke, there is fire and therefore danger, might be best to take cover.....imo.

I know that police are issued their own boots. Definitely not construction type from MWW. Not sure about EMS drivers and workers. Sonia wasn't working at a hospital at the time of her murder. I can't remember which one she was working at before she quit though. Refresh?

Are you thinking that she had a bit of a "stalker" who made runs to the hospital where she worked? I believe she was in pediatrics so it's unlikely she'd have much cause to be seen by EMS drivers who only spend their time in Emergency.

I don't recall that LE specified black ... they displayed both brown and black boots at the presser:
