On Nov. 12, 2005, 36-year-old nurse, Lori Dupont was murdered by her former lover, anaesthesiologist Dr. Marc Daniel. The tragedy occurred at the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital in Windsor, Ontario, where both of them worked. The hospital was sued for not doing enough to prevent the attack even though it was allegedly aware of Dr. Daniel’s mental problems and threats he had made against Nurse Dupont. Public outrage over the Dupont murder spurred Ontario to adopt Bill 168—the “Lori Dupont Bill”—which, effective June 15, 2010, requires employers to protect employees from workplace violence, including domestic violence. Arguably, the same obligation is implied in all of Canada. Here are excerpts from an interview with HR Director, Mary Benson-Albers, who played a key role in formulating the Hospital’s domestic violence policy. (Note: The interview was conducted by lawyer/journalist Sheryl Smolkin and is fully reprinted here.)
................................

Because we know, Sonia had had much trouble at her work place (Hospital Sick Children) and even had changed her work place 1 month before the murder, I'm thinking about the reason for her trouble, possibly unknown and perhaps similar to LD's anger/fear.
The date of the new policy bill - June 2010 - maybe important? See the excerpt below:

How the Policy Has Worked—A Case Study

Q. Have you had any actual domestic violence incidents since implementation of the policies?

A. Most startling for me has been the number of women experiencing domestic violence looking for support and resources who have actually come forward.

Thanks for the thought inspiring links, FromGermany, definitely something to consider!

Calif. killer gets life in Ont. nurse's cold-case killing

The 28-year-old's body was found in her Torrance, Calif., apartment in 1979. She'd been strangled with wire and stabbed more than 15 times.

Now, the man police long suspected in the cold case murder -- an ex-boyfriend who remained free for more than 30 years, while investigators solved the crime -- is headed to prison for 26 years to life.

Douglas Gordon Bradford, 62, an engineer from Orange County, Calif., near Los Angeles, was sentenced Friday for the first-degree murder of Knight, whom he'd dated in California.

Police had long believed Bradford was the killer. And Knight's father, Clair, had said he found it odd his daughter's suitor never sent condolences after her death.

But with no evidence, the case went cold until 2009 when police found new clues and arrested Bradford. He was convicted in the slaying four months ago.

We are on the same wavelength FG, was just about to post this. It is amazing that it turned out that the wire used to strangle LK, was the same kind that her mother, an artist, used to hang her art work.
Eventually forensics will solve Sonia's murder, let's hope it is soon!

Susan Tice and Erin Gilmour were killed by the same man. There has been a recent breakthrough, and a tip has revealed that these women both frequented the same bars and restaurants in Yorkville.

Tice was a nurse.

These crimes were sadistic, they were both sexually assaulted, bound and stabbed.

Is this serial killer responsible for Sonia's death as well?

Very interesting, thanks for posting, missed that new article .. might Sonia have also frequented a bar or restaurant in the Yorkville area and would the dna match these cases?

http://www.crimeblog.it/post/5377/t...-di-sonia-varaschin-infermiera-italo-canadese

Sonia Varaschin, infermiera 42enne di nazionalità canadese ma di origini italiane, è stata assassinata e il suo corpo sarebbe stato fatto a pezzi.

Google translation:

Sonia Varaschin, 42-year old nurse of Canadian nationality but of Italian descent, was murdered and her body was torn to pieces.

I never heard that???
I guess what kind of stuck out to me here, was not the translation, but the Italian part.

I don't really think of Sonia as being Italian, I don't know why. It doesn't really matter, I don't think? Just made me pause.

I for myself wasn't so surprised, because if I google "Varaschin", always appear Italian contributions and Italian companies. But I admit: first I was thinking of Russian descent.
Sonia's body not only mortally wounded, but not completely preserved, that was shocking to me. I never heard of it.

Interesting, but I have googled 169 restaurants and bars in the Yorkville area. Maybe Sonia's friends and parents have an idea, where Sonia loved to spend time?

Torn to pieces? I don't know. This would have happened at her house unless there is still another crime scene not disclosed yet. Is this crime blog an open forum or an Italian MSM source?

Toronto International Snowmobile, ATV & Powersports Show

Maybe, it's completely useless :blushing:, but I just read, by riding an ATV you are required to wear ankle boots - perhaps such boots from Mark's Wear House?

(maybe landscaping ...??)

The writer from CrimeBlog:

Renato Marino

If reading becomes a habit, then there is also the desire to write! Buff yellow, historical novels and Russian literature, I have recently discovered a fondness for the authors of the rising sun. Are Blogo.it since 2008, writing mainly on economics, finance and crime. For two years I was a correspondent for a regional newspaper in Calabria. I also dealt with sport, community management side, for one of the biggest national sports newspapers online.

In the meantime I have noticed on MSM, that there is always used the expression Sonia's "remains" were found (not her "body").

On another site that has a thread for Sonia, there has been confirmation that Sonia’s on-again, off-again bf, IR, *WAS* DNA tested -- and passed a poly fairly early in the investigation. Admin on the other site confirmed this info comes from IR directly. I know some folks here have had questions about whether the bf was tested, so I feel it’s important to share the info.

This makes sense, since current and former partners are usually first or among the first to be investigated in murder cases -- and also explains why LE cleared the bf early.
(I posted this info once before, but had to pull it to be sure I wasn't breaking rules by posting.)

FromGermany:

I'd encountered this too -- there were apparently early rumours circulating about this in some news stories. BUT LE discounted those:
QUOTE: Tomei also said there is “absolutely no truth” to rumours circulating that Varaschin was dismembered by her attacker. UNQUOTE
http://www.orangeville.com/news-story/1484906-witness-in-sonia-varaschin-disappearance-discounted/

I'm sure the LE statement clearing that up must offer some small comfort for the Varaschin family --
although "comfort" isn't the right word, of course. I can't imagine the agony they continue to endure. I hope the family can share laughter and joy this holiday together.

Wonder if any tips have come after the release of this cctv showing potential witnesses?

http://globalnews.ca/news/1533789/o...n-on-video-related-to-sonia-varaschin-murder/

"Our investigators are as committed to finding Sonia Varaschin’s killer today as we were when it began in 2010,” OPP Detective Inspector Shawn Glassford said in a media release.

“We are determined to bring justice to Sonia and her family and to that end we will continue to follow up on all tips and leads we receive and are asking the public to continue provide information to our investigators.”

I thought yesterday while reading some old news re the video, that after 4 months and with views of $50.000 reward it is mostly quite clear, the 2 men at the pavillion aren't only "witnesses".
