I’m still thinking of the boots. They either belonged to a workman in Sonia’s home OR maybe it was a date and she told him not to worry about what he was wearing, just come here after work type of thing. Surely LE have investigated her phone and computers for whom Sonia had been in contact with.
Since Sonia lived in a town house, is that like the way a condo management will gain access to units to fix things? Did LE check all that?

Crime Beat, the Canadian program had a repeat of the 2020 aired show about Sonia's disappearance that I watched yesterday.

They mentioned the boots and a local Mark's store said they sell thousands of this boot each year, it is a popular style.

To me it was interesting to see the roads in the townhouse complex, her unit was not easy to locate.

The mother believes that LE let a piece of info slip as they hold all evidence to themselves, that SV had bought a new nightgown and it was not in the home once LE released it to the family, LE said she was found in the nightgown. To her mother that was significant, she was either in bed ready to retire or she had someone with her.

The interview with the ex boyfriend was very good too.

@3:18 interesting comment about the perp possibly confident enough that if he was seen he could explain his presence in the area at that time of night.

what type of job would you have if you wore work boots and commonly to the neighborhood performed the tasks in the dark of the night?

A few come to mind. But the link below has so many more.

Hydro worker
Maintenance worker
Delivery Driver
Technical Service worker

Which professionals work at night?

Top 16 Overnight Shift Jobs
  • Emergency Room Doctor. Evenings are the busiest time for emergency rooms, so there is a strong demand for doctors to work night shifts. ...
  • Air Traffic Controller. ...
  • Physician Assistant. ...
  • Medical Sonographer. ...
  • Registered Nurse. ...
  • Police Officer. ...
  • Firefighter. ...
  • Paramedic/EMT.

These overnight shift professions really do resonate with her career in healthcare, excluding the air traffic controller all others are in that field. If her Mother is correct and she had her new nightgown on and then she thinks SV was with someone romantically, who had a career in this field, who knew the landscape between SV and her ex boyfriends residence and would be wearing Marks Work Warehouse boots at this time of night?

Did I miss it or is there a link about the new night gown? Thanks in advance.

Oh, thanks so much. I DID miss that point. What condition was the nightgown in when she was found? Must have been blood-soaked? Ripped? Was Sonia partially clothed in that article of clothing?

I wonder if Sonia had stepped outside to get the cat in before bedtime and the killer was waiting at the back door?

Could he have shown up in his "Monday morning-workwear" (fresh and clean, clean work boots on already), because he would start his day from Sonia's home the next morning?
The younger he was, the more likely I would suspect something like that. (No circumstances just because of a woman.)

or saw something she should not have when she was outside?

I also wonder IF the cat ever came indoors because the cat was found unharmed later. Did LE find paw prints in the blood?

  • #1,012
If the killer was waiting outside, knowing Sonia would go to get her cat in, it was someone who knew her habits and that she had a pet. This has to be a planned attack, not a random guy out having a smoke. In my own thoughts, I believe he is living nearby going about his life freely. Never getting caught and that’s hard to believe.

Sonia was awaiting a visitor from Alberta (Jasper). Her mum baked a cake for her daughter because of this visitor, as far as I remember.
Have we ever heard more about this visitor? Male? Female? Which day?

''When reached by a reporter Saturday night, hospital spokesperson Tammy LaRue said she wasn't aware of any disputes between Sonia and any member of the hospital staff. She said she would have to consult with human resources to verify those claims.
LaRue did say that Sonia "wasn't under any disciplinary action. She left on her own terms."

In addition to those alleged disputes, Michele has revealed for the first time that her daughter, who lived alone, had several disputes with three or four young men, who had rented a unit a few doors away, because of their late-night rowdiness.
"She was a nurse who worked shifts, so she called the police on them several times," Michele says, adding that the young men have since moved out of the complex.''

''Michele thinks back to that Sunday, the last time she saw her daughter alive. There was lunch at the family home in Bolton and later a message left on the phone.
"She asked if I would bake a cake because a friend was coming from Jasper, Alberta, on Wednesday," Michele says.
That was the last she heard of Sonia's voice. She longs to hear the message again. If only she hadn't deleted it.''

Has this visitor been checked out? Whereabouts? Alibi?

Did Sonia have a garage for her car? if so, where was it?

Her townhouse unit has an attached garage. Based on this photo, I believe she would at least sometimes park her car inside (there seems to be a car-sized void on the garage floor). One thing we never figured out definitively is whether there is direct entry into the home from the garage.

I found this listing of a neighbouring unit and the agent says at about the 0:50 mark that the ‘garage has a walk-in from the basement’. He then shows it.

If you go in through the garage, the door opens on a landing in the lower level and the stairs next to it lead up to the main floor.

Thanks for posting. At the beginning, the realtor mentions it's walking distance to downtown which I didn't realize (or at least forgot). According to Google Maps, it's a 9 minute walk from the complex to where Sonia's car was abandoned.

I heartily add my appreciation, Lexiintoronto!!
I'm not sure we ever had that info about basement (-only) access to the garage! (Apologies if we did and I somehow missed it or have forgotten now.) I recall a LOT of debate as to whether or not these townhomes were built without (any) indoor access to the garage -- but how else could we make sense of the exit via the front steps -? Your post, Lexi+, makes more sense and helps put some of that speculation more reasonably to rest. Kudos and thank you!
