A remembrance service for a Dalhousie University student missing and presumed dead will be held Wednesday.

Taylor Dean James Samson’s family and friends will gather at the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home on Peggys Cove Road in Upper Tantallon Wednesday, according to a brief notice in The Chronicle Herald on Tuesday.

Justice James Chipman scheduled the hearing for Oct. 21 and 22.

Crown attorney Susan MacKay told the court she will ask for the usual publication ban on the evidence and submissions at the bail hearing.

She said she expects to place “relatively extensive and detailed evidence” before the court during the hearing.

Tan said Thursday he's still not sure he has everything he needs.

"From what I understand I've been provided with some of the original forensic evidence and I've been provided with a videotape of what happened," Tan said.

This sounds to me like there is a video tape of the murder. That is going to be hard to refute in court if there is video evidence.

Also wondering if it's a video of the interrogation (and possible confession). Even with a confession, a lawyer might advise an NG plea and try to argue the confession was under duress.

Bail hearing to take place this week for accused murderer

"Sandeson is applying for bail with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court. A judge has scheduled Wednesday and Thursday to hear arguments on why Sandeson should be released on bail pending his murder trial."

This sounds to me like there is a video tape of the murder. That is going to be hard to refute in court if there is video evidence.

I was also thinking maybe it is a video of some type of reenactment or walk through of crime scene?

Preliminary hearing to begin next year in Taylor Samson case ...

William Sandeson appeared briefly in provincial court in Halifax on Tuesday, when six days in February, March and April were set aside to hear the matter.

Defence lawyer Eugene Tan said he needed the time to present 25 civilian witnesses, some of which the Crown argued were not necessary.

Today in court, Crown prosecutor Susan MacKay said she received a new list of witnesses Sandeson's lawyer wants to call. The list includes 14 police officers and three civilians.

Tan said he's received 8,000 pages of evidence from the Crown and that prompted changes to his tactics and witness list.

The preliminary hearing for Sandeson opened on Monday [February 8]. Because the case is in the preliminary stage, there is a publication ban in place, meaning we cannot report on what evidence was presented in court.

According to his lawyer, Sandeson is studying law (taking notes in court, etc.) in order to participate in his own defense.

The preliminary hearing lasted about three weeks and wrapped up March 4, although because of the publication ban there's not much info aside from the note that over a dozen witnesses took the stand. The judge will decide whether there's enough evidence for the case to go to trial; that decision should be made on March 29.

Sandeson has been in custody since the fall of 2015. Samson’s body has not been found.

The judge-and-jury trial begins April 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Halifax Supreme Court and will be ongoing for a month.
