Carola Titze, 16, was on holiday with her parents in the municipality of De Haan in the summer of 1996 when she disappeared on July 5.

She went out on a walk towards the beach in the morning but never returned, and her severely mutilated body was found in sand dunes on July 11.

The public prosecutor's office in West Flanders, Bruges, have confirmed they are investigating whether 43-year-old Christian Brueckner could be involved, according to local newspaper reports.

Carola is reported to have been in contact with a German man in the days before her murder and the pair were allegedly seen together in a disco.''

A possible answer to the query as to why he may have been in Belgium a year or thereabouts after moving to Portugal.
Hope the police have managed to trace the girlfriend he went to Portugal with in 1995.

I'm guessing he used the VW van for traveling...grabbing ', opportunity' when he could (I'm reminded of Jimmy Saville's van he used to entice children into, been though he also had a car). With a camper van one can close the curtains to prevent people looking in. IF CB IS responsible for some if these crimes, I think some would have been planned, and some were opportunistic.
I found it rather odd when CB was arrested in Italy, all he had on him was a Bible and his lawyer's business card.

The part that stuck out to me was that the suspect in the Titze case boasted about his brushes with the law. If Christian B. turns out to be responsible for Titze's murder, the fact that he got a light sentence as a teenager for abusing a minor, probably only served to embolden him. After all is investigated, who knows how many people he victimized all over Europe.

That is an interesting development, @Carovb5 ! I was under the impression that it wasn't possible to export data like DNA from the EU to the US due to privacy regulations. Apparently, that isn't so thanks to the Data Privacy Framework Program.
